Nintendo 3DS

Which are just three buttons. ZL, ZR, and another R button. They could easily add the ZL and ZR buttons behind the normal L/R buttons, not sure about the second R button though. Maybe replace the R button with R1/R2 buttons....somehow?

Isn't the 2nd R button meant to replace the one on the system, which is made unreachable by the add-on?

Yes and no. There's a R button on it, since it covers the system's regular R button but, there is also a ZR button.

Well yeah, I know about the two triggers.

I'm just referring to the extra R button.

An update on the Zavvi.com front. I've contacted them via Twitter yesterday afternoon and they replied back 5 minutes ago. Payment is taken when its shipped, not on the placement of the order. Looks like I will change and go with Zavvi. I don't want to use the discount codes incase the order is nullified and not just the code.

Looks like the code no longer works anyway, according to these commenters..

You can easily transfer stored data from your Nintendo #3DS‬ to the Nintendo #3DS‬XL!

It would seem so, though we don't know how you actually do that yet.

Since there's no account system, wouldn't you need both systems to transfer?

As with the DSi > 3DS, yes you would. There is a work around for the eShop accounts which involves removing the shop account form your system and then phoning Nintendo with the serial numbers of both devices, but it's awkward and whether or not Nintendo would do it is another matter. The other option is to do it in-store. You buy the new system, and while you're still at the counter ask the staff if you'd be able to do a system transfer.

That's right, I forgot about the e-shop account. It says you can link your Club Nintendo account to the system, so I'd imagine you just link the account to the new 3DS to get the same downloads and ambassador games.

I don't think there is a purple XL?

Impressions

I can sum it up.

- The screens are HUUUGE!

- DS games will get a "third life" on the bigger screen.

- The 3D effect is easier on the eye and nicer to the look.

- The technology behind the 3D might have been improved on the XL model. (To confirm)

- They think there's some kind of "filter" at works here because the pixels appear "rounded."

- "The XL is so much more comfortable to hold than the original 3DS that we have to ask what the hell has Nintendo been doing in R&D with the original model." (Paraphrased)

- The difference might be small, but the buttons felt well placed and of better quality.

- The circle pad appears bigger. (To confirm)

- Surprisingly light for its size.

- 3DS games will gain new life from the XL.

- Speakers and sounds doesn't appear to have improve. (Was in a noisy room, to confirm.)

- The XL is an upgrade on the 3DS from almost every single point.

Huge screen

Better viewing angle

3D effect looks better/more effective/more natural

2D mode looks better than regular 3DS

Image looks better/softer (they assume there might be some filter but not sure)

The grip (round corners) fit nicely

Unit fits better in hands (they wonder if it should've been the main design in first place)

Unit is lighter than they expected

There's a coat in the unit (not fully matte) that gives it a "deluxe plastic imitating metal" look

Not sure at the sound as the room was quite noisy

Argh.....if I could sell my old 3DS for half price, I would pick this up. I've always found the 3DS to be uncomfortable, (big hands+small device=poor results) and this looks like it might fix that problem.

All those impressions make me want it. It seems like the 3DS XL is a much better improvement than I expected.

I was going to buy a Points Card for my 3DS, but the 1000 Points card packaging had a sticker saying it wasn't combatible with the 3DS. I'm confused now, I thought it used the same cards as the Wii and DSi? I searched Amazon for 3DS ones, but I can only find the ame ones I found at the store. Can someone help me here?

It's not the same. You need a 3DS eShop card, which either has Zelda artwork or a picture of a 3DS on it. I don't know where you could find one in Germany but, they're on sale in places like Best Buy and GameStop in the US, check equivalents to those where you live.

Actually, it doesn't. The accessory does make the standard R button hard to reach though.

So I guess the Circle Pad Pro's R button is there to replace the standard 3DS R button, then.

Y'know, the one thing I really like about the XL is that the circle pad no longer seems to be in the sort of position to leave prints on the top screen when you close the console.

And that metal-like finish is pretty snazzy!

Well that's annoying. Thanks.

If you can't find them in gaming specialists, try any other kind of stores that sell gift cards, like greeting card stores, department stores, and supermarkets. I've found them in all kinds of stores that have gift card racks.

Cool. What's the difference between the old ones, though? I assume they still have codes you have to put in, right?

Hope I can still get one of the Zelda ones.

They don't appear to have any difference really, since they still work with the Wii and DSi. They do have codes you have to put in, yes. I've not tried using an old Wii and DSi one with the 3DS to see if they still work or not.

I've tried. It doesn't work. You'll need a new eShop card, or a credit/ debit card if you want to use it on the 3DS.

...I ended up with a bunch of points I couldn't use, so I spent them on F Zero X on the Wii. Money well spent, personally.
