How does this sound for a 20th anniversary compilation?

With Sonic's 20th anniversary just around the corner we all probably have thoughts in the back of our mind about what SEGA has in store for us. This is what I am hoping for, however I doubt thiswould happen as SEGA doesn't really do anything in over-the-top fashion...(oppinion)

I think that SEGA would make another compilation, like the one suggested as a PS3 blu-ray release. Here's what it would have:

GAMES

- All the titles released on a SEGA platform, even the Dreamcast ones. Then we can all discuss the horrible difficulty of Shuffle on the message boards!

- if there's enough room I'd like the games for the GC, XB and PS2. And maybe even S&TSR, SRZG and S&TBK with PSMove support!

EXTRA CRAP

- trophies edclusive to each individual game as well as trophies for the regular game that are earned by unlocking artwork, music and other bonuses

-An artwork gallery featuring concept art from all games, screensavers, fan-art, pretty much all the art SEGA can find and some more.

- The soundtracks to every sonic game. seriously. How could they not treat the fans to his amazing(with the exception of chronicles) music?

- Extremely detailed character profiles to every character, similar to concept mobius Who knows, it could show SEGA that they have too many characters?

- a storyline and timeline

- a detailed analysis for every sonic game

As great as it would be to have this as an exclusive for my current-gen home console of choice I do think it'd be nice for this to be released as a 2 or 3 disc set for the 360 and Wii. Of course the wii couldn't have S&TSR, zero gravity and the black knight since they are already on the console, and the 360 couldn't have the 2 storybook games due to it's lack of motion controls.

I would also like seeing this on the PSP albeit without the 3D games due to the lack of UMD space. But they could release them on the PSP's PSStore to make up for it. In fact if this was a PS3 exclusive, they could release all the games on the WVC, PSN and XBLA. And of course the DS cluldnt handle this stuff so maybe it could have a 3DS release if it really does have the power of the gamecube!

I think this would be great! But it wouldn't be the only game for Sonic's 20th anniversary. Hopefully they would make it at a 50 dollar price point. I think it would be perfect for the consumer who is just getting into sonic and doesn't know what game to buy.

Does the word "price" mean anything to you, or are we all going to have to put our unborn grandchildren into life-long debt in order to buy this monstrous compilation?

Hmm, would you really want a compilation for the 20th anniversary instead of a new game? They should just do something like they did for the 10th.

Would any current generation game console disc be able to hold that amount of space? You would need at least 5 discs just for the games alone, not to mention problems like how motion controlled games like Sonic and the Secret Rings going onto the X Box 360. (Since it would be quite hard to get that game to work on Natal without the control methods seeming wierd.) As long as it isn't as bad as the 15th anniversary game it should be fine anyway.

If they would make a collection they should just do them up to Sonic Adventure 2, I think.

Theoretically the entire Sonic library up until the Dreamcast would most likely fit on single layer bluray disc. The issue is with properly emulating each and every game on new hardware, especially any Saturn titles.

For the 20th Anniversary, I'll be extremely disappointed if we get nothing more than a compilation. It would just be continuing downhill.

10th Anniversary- Sonic Adventure 2 (speaks for itself)

15th Anniversary- Sonic06 (....speaks for itself)

20th Anniversary- Compilation of old games?

That's a pretty big piss take if you ask me. As for what we'll really get, I suspect this years E3 is going to blow this forum to kingdom come.

We can only hope.

I'm extremely excited for Sonic 4 stuff, but I don't think the blue blur is done with 3D. I would like Sonic Team to try to tackle the third dimension yet again for Sonic's 20th. I really liked the unleashed day stages, so maybe take that style, refine it a bit to make it even better, and ONLY have that in the game. I would definitely buy that for $60. Or try something new and fun in 3D. However, I think the old 3D Sonic formula (that present in SA1, SA2, Heroes, and '06) is rather dated and doesn't quite do it anymore. Good luck Sonic Team!!

Just so long as it's not SA3 and they can commit themselves to not spawn more genre-rouletting gimmick bullshit, I can't see myself complaining much.

Well, it's a good thing most of them have PC ports then, isn't it? B)

A compilation would be a waste of all of our time. Most of the Sonic games worth playing (and plenty that aren't) are available on last gen's Sonic collections or are from this or last gen. If you're a fan of the series you most likely own most of these games anyway, and for the ones you don't, you're better off trying to find them individually than buying this massive redundant package. The extras aren't anything to get excited over either; the art and music you can find online, and forcing them to commit to a series timeline and character profiles is likely to backfire and cause a lot of stuff we wouldn't like.

Plus, is this really the best they can do? "Hey, thanks for following us for 20 years, here's all that stuff you've already played!" I'd rather they take the risk and actually make a game, even if it's risking another '06, than to just have them regurgitate their old work yet again.

You know what I would like to see for a 20th Anniversary game? A new game, done in the classic 2D style, that's a true sequel to S3&K. One that's cheap, and a guaranteed classic.

Oh wait...

We should get a GBA remake of Sonic 2, and a sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 20-BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Oh man, I can't finish that sentence without cracking up. Well, good thing is that there is no way Sonic Team can fuck up the 20th anniversary as badly as they did the 15th. And as for what I'd like to see, I would kill for Sonic Unleashed 2 with absolutely no gimmicks attached.

The odds of a compilation like this being released is very low(the odds of it actualy being up to fans standards are even lower). What your talking about is basicaly them re-releasing the entire series, and who knows what would happen to our favorite titles if Sega decided to compile them together in such a fashio. This would only lead to a whole bunch of glithchy emulations that you end up paying $200 for when you could just as easily get them off the internet for free. Honestly I would much rather prefer a new 3D game, Something like Unleashed but with some of the bad elements taken out(Medal Collecting, I'm looking at you). Heck, I'd rather see them make a game simmiler to '06 instead of just giving me a whole bunch of games I've already played just so I can get a handfull of games that I havn't played.

Well of course it wouldn't be the ONLY game we get. I just think it would be cool to imagine what that 99 dollar ps3 collection could have on it. I do think that they might be able to fit all those games up to riders on it if it was on a dual layer blu-ray since those games were on a DVD and Mini DVD format meaning tha they are less than 5GB so it is possible. But I do think this sounds reasonable since we get compilations all the freaking time... I also think that this collection should be made (albeit not for a huge price) for people who have been curious about sonic and want to give it a try. Though if this was made it would likely just be all the games (even sonic jam for it's cool extras) up to Adventure 2 for the dreamcast.

A completely new 3D Sonic game is the best and the only thing most of us are looking for. I for one absolutely love adventure series and i'd like it to continue, so my choice (my dream and hope) is Sonic adventure 3 with different gameplay mechanics(well,i mean, good mechanics), HD graphics, amazing CG scenes (and in-game ones), great plot and..hm.. Maybe Eggman as the last final boss. I kinda hate unleashed, but i don't think it's daytime stages suck, so maybe a new game should try to combine these two styles of gameplay.

Another great present for all of us would be a Sonic CG movie! Kind of something like Sonic OVA, but with CG graphics!(Note: please, no pixar humans or no humans at all)

As for other things like bloody compilations, it's all crap. If Sonic 4 is what we're going to get for Sonic's BIG 20th anniversary..Well, it would be a disaster. And no, a new 2D game isn't enough for such a great and importand date.

Even if a few PS3 discs COULD hold all those games, Sega would be foolish to give fans everything at once. Better from a business standpoint to sell games individually at affordable prices than a $$$ mega-pack for 1337 fans only. Even I, a huge Sonic fan, wouldn't buy it as I (surprise surprise) already own nearly every game.

What I would like to see is something a little different. Maybe something like a giant coffee-table style book going over the entire 20 year history of Sonic the Hedgehog. Something like an encyclopedia covering all the games, music, characters, comics, merchanside, key people etc. That is something I would pay good money for.

Also, although the music is easily available - I would really love to see an official release of the Mega Drive/Master System Sonic music similar to the Outrun/Afterburner/Daytona USA OST boxsets that Sega have released recently. I understand it would be quite expensive to do (due to Nakamura's involvement?), but a lovingly crafted boxset would mean more to me than some MP3's.

While I don't see them making a compilation for the 20th Anniversary, it would be nice.

I'm assuming that they will be making a game, although I am quite surprized that they didn't decide to have it been Sonic 4 (though looking at the way that's going I guess I'm glad they didn't) - for Sonic's 20th I'm betting it'll be something akin to the crap of Unleashed or something along those lines, ie: stunning graphic but crap design/annoying characters/too realistic.

A compilation would be great, although I'd like it to be games we haven't had on a compilation yet, as I'm sure every Sonic fan probably has all the overdone games three times over by now.

I'd like to see Knuckles Chaotixfirst of all, SEGAsonic arcade we get it! the trackball is hard to mimick, but really, if they had taken time to try make it work we probably could've had it by now, plus I just want to play the game - don't really care if it handles like arse. Sonic Shuffle yeah this is really only because I don't own this game and wanna complete my game collection - call it the collector part of me.

Then I'd like to see them add things like unfinished levels and games such as Sonic crackers and Sonic Xtreme even if they are barely playable for 30 seconds it would be nice to see everything from Sonic history.

Music and Artowrk that we haven't previously seen would be cool too, and TV ads for Sonic games and such.

Then to top it all off have a 3D lobby like Sonic Jam, where you traverse through it to get to the different sections of the compilation game to access all the stuff.

Crystal Castles is a trackball game, and it plays rather well with a controller.

I think for the 20th, Sega should bring all the pre-Heroes games to XBLA/PSN. We already have SA1 on the horizon, so why not give us Sonic CD, Chaotix, Sonic R and SA2 as well?

I really don't think there is any need for another compilation with 1, 2 and 3&K but I wouldn't mind having SA, SA2 and Heroes on the one disc. A girl can dream...
