Square Enix has officially bought Lara Croft creators Eidos.

Crofts and Clouds

It looks like it's official boys and girls. Lara Croft will soon be the property of Square Enix. According to MCV:

"Eidos has reached an agreement with Square Enix which will result in the Britsoft firm's complete share capital being purchased by the Japanese company in early May. Trading of Eidos shares will be suspended on April 21st and the cancelling of its share listings is due to occur the following day. A settlement is hoped to be in place by May 6th."

In what will likely be a year filled with buyouts, bankruptcies, and mergers, Square Enix's purchase of Eidos is 2009's biggest deal, thus far. It will be interesting to see how Square Enix integrates the company. Tomb Raider is obviously Eidos' best-known franchise, but Square Enix previously showed interesting in IO Interactive. While parts of the company are sure to shut down, things look bright for the Hitman developer.

Now that the deal appears to be set, how do you feel? Are you concerned about any of your favorite Eidos franchises? Are you still puzzled as to why Square Enix even wants Eidos? Leave a comment and let me know (please)!

Don't know if it is a good or bad thing, but certainly sounds interesting to say the least. Well, it could help somewhat for the Tomb Raider games or whatever franchises they have under their belt, though not by animeing up obviously.
