Bioshock: The original pitch

So the guys who originally came up with the concept for the game Bioshock have release their original pitch, they're going to be showing off lots of original ideas and designs never seen before which were done back when the game was being pitched to studios before it was actually green lit for production.

* You did not crash land in the ocean, originally you woke up in a laboratory, half of your body is human, the other half is 'alien' (not little green men alien). Your name is Carlos Cuello and you were originally assigned a task to infiltrate Rapture and it's cult. Your mission is to rescue a wealthy heiress from the cult of Rapture.

* There are indications that you use nano technology to modify weapons.

* Multiplayer was to be included in the original title.

* Proposed as a potential Film and TV license.

* The game was originally going to be set on an island NOT in the ocean.

* As apposed to finding a weapon and then buying upgrades/new ammo, it sounds like you could actively and constantly modify and upgrade them as the game went on.

* Weapons were also prone to jamming.

* Robots, laser pistols, magnetic grenades were all confirmed.

* You had the option to directly control robots/security drones.

* The following could be done in the original pitch.

1: Raise and lowed the oxygen levels to boost power of explosives.

2: Magnetize the floor. This was to slow down robots/make it harder for robots to attack you.

3: Manipulate the gravity. Designed to help you to jump further and hinder foes.

4: Electrify the floor. (kinda like what we ended up with).

5: Flood a room. You could flood rooms killing enemies, but enhancing aqua mutants.

6: Manipulate temperature. This was to allow you to pass by electronic sensors, but a side effect would enhance cold blooded enemies.

Thats all they've released for now, more details are due out in the near future.

Looking at even the beginning of that pitch makes me wish so much that Levine was let loose on BioShock 2. Just look at the atmosphere it conjures up on the first page alone! There's more atmosphere and dread there than the whole of BS2!

There are parts of the pitch I hate, like the rescuing of the rich woman (mind you this probably would have been a big plot twist by the end). Being set on a random island with a laboratry is a bit... meh... But there must have been some kind of underwater parts as the pitch describes flooding.

But the premise definately blows Bioshock 2 out of the water. It really was a huge anti climax when it came to plot in that one.

But there must have been some kind of underwater parts as the pitch describes flooding.

The document describes underground and underwater facilities, indicating a large complex extending far beyond the shorelines of the island.

They've almost dug themselves into a corner really. The setting, I think, has huge scope for new instalments... but not as an FPS. Someone on another forum suggested a noir-esque Heavy Rain type investigation game set during the last days of Rapture, how ace would that be?

I don't know. Bioshock seemed alot more in depth than this pitch. Bioshock 2, however, definitely should have been this.
