The Rayman Topic: Last Game - Rayman Legends

Come on, guys. I'm sure it will be fine. Remember, these are the same people that brought us Rayman Origins. Let me reiterate... The same people that brought us Rayman Fucking Origins.

Still Ubisoft. The Ubisoft who fucked Rayman for so long with those stupid rabbits. Rayman 2 was an amazing game just like Origins, but after that the franchise started going down hill, I can't trust it just yet, even if Rayman Origins is one of the best platformers I've played in a long time.

The first strike was making a sequel Wii U exclusive. The second was that info saying Murphy will be mandatory fruit ninja action with AI Rayman.

A "good portion" basically just means "a not-insignificant amount." There are probably one or two Murfy levels per world or something. The simple fact is, there's just no way in Hell that the vast majority of the game won't be standard platforming levels. If you believe otherwise, well...

Wasn't it hinted that Rayman Legends was just a timed Wii U exclusive? And even if it was an exclusive... so? I really don't see why people are complaining about this, and Bayonetta 2. Nintendo is doing what every hardware developer should be doing: getting exclusive games to hook people in and buy their console. I dunno about you, but I think Wii U has a rockin' selection of games announced so far that should be able to win most gamers over. It's almost like people are complaining just for the sake of complaining. This system comes along and announces it has exclusive games that people wanna play... you'd think that would be a good thing for anybody interested in video games, but I guess not.

No, it didn't won me in anyway, I could never afford a Wii U here, and I think release a sequel as exclusive is a retarded idea, especially when the first game came out for basically every console existing. The games that should be Wii U exclusive are the Nintendo IPs.

I just fecking hope Ubisoft release another Rayman on the PS3 and 360, because that was an extreme let down, even if the game sucks because of the Murphy boring gimmicks.

Hasn't been said time and again that Origins did relatively well and did not bomb?

It did better than Ubisoft expected but, as far as sales it did not do well at all until the sales on it. They apparently made money off of it, perhaps due to UbiArt being a cheap development engine.

About 1,650,000 copies total globally. That's certainly reasonable, since I'm guessing Rayman may not have cost that much, though the cost of porting and advertisement might have been tough, especially if you consider the differences for porting to 3DS and Wii.

The games that should be Wii U exclusive are the Nintendo IPs.

What? No really, what? That's some interesting logic. So that means only PS3 exclusives should be Sony Ip's, only 360 exclusives should be Microsoft Ip's, and so on.

Rayman Origins bombed hard, so I don't know how often we'll see our limbless friend.

Origins didn't bomb, it's been doing well enough for Ubisoft to announce that it's profitable for them.

So it turns out the guy only said a good portion (around 30%, which probably means 1 or 2 levels per world) and was still not clear on if you can turn off Murphy, or can just use the Pro Controller instead of the Gamepad.

Motherfuck.

The source for that info is the video. In the beginning, you can clearly hear Emile Morel say that he is the lead game designer for Rayman Legends.

"Hello, so, my name is Emile Morel, and I am the lead game designer on Rayman Legends."

Him being the Lead Designer doesn't fill me with confidence, he said 50%, which was a drastic overshoot, according to him, moments later. Then again, English as a second language.

I'll be honest: I don't mind that decision at all. I can understand why people hate this decision though, but personally, I was (and still am) planning to play through the entire game in Co-op, so yeah... I don't care that much.

If Murphy's "escort missions" boil down to replacing the shooter levels from Origins, which I'm fairly sure we haven't seen anything of yet, I'm actually rather okay with it. The shooter levels was probably the only thing about Origins that actively bored me out, and those were also from the start seen as a "big portion" of the game; at least 20%. They only boiled down to being transitional levels between worlds, bonus areas and the last boss. If this is a gimmick replacing it, it's quite a bit of a better one if the Land of the Livid Dead stage is anything to go by. A fast fun rhythm level that improves massively with co-op.

I wouldn't doubt Ancel and the team working on Legends. They're fantastic game designers who know what they're doing and everything we've seen so far screams of a classic experience with only the occasional Murphy interaction, and even in a worst case scenario if the guy was fully right the exaggeration of that summary goes against the fact that it's still less than half, which probably accounts those optional/bonus levels we heard of. Don't get your panties in a bunch yet.

EDIT:

Month old footage where the Wii U pad player actively "switches" between using Murphy and Rayman.

Somewhere there's a contradiction of information because a lot of it doesn't make sense. The most logical explanation would be that switching to Murphy in solo mode the way the second player does it in the above video would mean that instead of the player being removed, the AI takes control of the player, considering how there's Murphy interaction in most of every level.

So yeah, this probably isn't that much noteworthy news, it's probably just an automatic bridge making the transitions on the Wii U pad seem less awkward. The issue I'd be worried about more is how the AI responds to the movements.

Also I really have to question the person who figured that throughout so many conventions and raving impressions from people who played it, we supposedly haven't heard how the game really plays up until now.

Not really happy about this. These stages may be fun, but all I want is a straight up platformer without any bothersome gimmick stages during the main game. I'll wait and see how they are to give my final judgement, though I still think I'll prefer NSMBU.

I was going to post the Sonic Cycle as a joke, but the second step apparently has nothing on gimmicks :-/

Turns out it was a mistake. There are only a few levels where you HAVE to use Murphy. The rest are platforming..

We can all calm the fuck down and buy the game now.

And that is why I have stopped jumping into vague conclusions, it just leads into unnecessary hate, and bad marketing for products that doesn't deserve it.

Glad that got cleared up. I did find it unusual how much the info seemed like a bait-and-switch. If Murfy (that's how it's spelled in most of the games) is only mandatory on occasion, I think it will only add to the experience rather than detract.

Plus, the Murfy-heavy levels will probably be pretty creative if the shield one is anything to judge by.
