The Rayman Topic: Last Game - Rayman Legends

Recommended Posts

If Murphy's "escort missions" boil down to replacing the shooter levels from Origins, which I'm fairly sure we haven't seen anything of yet, I'm actually rather okay with it. The shooter levels was probably the only thing about Origins that actively bored me out, and those were also from the start seen as a "big portion" of the game; at least 20%. They only boiled down to being transitional levels between worlds, bonus areas and the last boss. If this is a gimmick replacing it, it's quite a bit of a better one if the Land of the Livid Dead stage is anything to go by. A fast fun rhythm level that improves massively with co-op.

I wouldn't doubt Ancel and the team working on Legends. They're fantastic game designers who know what they're doing and everything we've seen so far screams of a classic experience with only the occasional Murphy interaction, and even in a worst case scenario if the guy was fully right the exaggeration of that summary goes against the fact that it's still less than half, which probably accounts those optional/bonus levels we heard of. Don't get your panties in a bunch yet.

EDIT:

Month old footage where the Wii U pad player actively "switches" between using Murphy and Rayman.

Somewhere there's a contradiction of information because a lot of it doesn't make sense. The most logical explanation would be that switching to Murphy in solo mode the way the second player does it in the above video would mean that instead of the player being removed, the AI takes control of the player, considering how there's Murphy interaction in most of every level.

So yeah, this probably isn't that much noteworthy news, it's probably just an automatic bridge making the transitions on the Wii U pad seem less awkward. The issue I'd be worried about more is how the AI responds to the movements.

Also I really have to question the person who figured that throughout so many conventions and raving impressions from people who played it, we supposedly haven't heard how the game really plays up until now.

Not really happy about this. These stages may be fun, but all I want is a straight up platformer without any bothersome gimmick stages during the main game. I'll wait and see how they are to give my final judgement, though I still think I'll prefer NSMBU.

I was going to post the Sonic Cycle as a joke, but the second step apparently has nothing on gimmicks :-/

Turns out it was a mistake. There are only a few levels where you HAVE to use Murphy. The rest are platforming..

We can all calm the fuck down and buy the game now.

And that is why I have stopped jumping into vague conclusions, it just leads into unnecessary hate, and bad marketing for products that doesn't deserve it.

Glad that got cleared up. I did find it unusual how much the info seemed like a bait-and-switch. If Murfy (that's how it's spelled in most of the games) is only mandatory on occasion, I think it will only add to the experience rather than detract.

Plus, the Murfy-heavy levels will probably be pretty creative if the shield one is anything to judge by.

Wait, since when do people NOT cast out doom on a tiny announcement? Especially on a game that they may not even end up buying/care about.

I think a lot of people want a reason to not buy a game. Just look at the reactions throughout this thread. Instead of waiting, they wanted to immediately close the case.

Well, some of us have little faith and/or patience when it comes to:

> Ubisoft

> Forced gimmicks on launch titles

> Rayman getting cast out in favor of his shitty friends

> All of the above

Each of these concerns has a cemented basis for validity. So when the designers suddenly say a gimmick takes like half of the game's stages, people get worried.

"Rayman Legends is going to be the most beautiful, amazing game ever made."

Rep says one not entirely clear statement

"Fuck this game, it's going to be complete shit, canceling pre-order now!"

Well at least we now know how loyal the fanbase is.

Though he was the Lead Game Designer so that did get me a little worried, he never made himself too clear on the statement.

Humm. Interesting, though I guess in order to enjoy the game any lone players will have to consider this primarily a co-op game, with the solo mode existing as an option. Much like how co-op games like L4D are MEANT to be played with other people, but single player is doable as long as you appreciate the cons of playing with the AI.

I can confirm this confirmation.

Anyway, it's nice to see what they had to say about the Wii U.

And from what the interview said, it seems like Legends was built with the Wii U in mind. Reason they aren't doing PS3 + Vita or Smartglass is because they don't want you to buy multiple things to get the same experience. Wii U's got everything includedd.

Makes sense to me.

Also, the game apparently has a new character for each world. Barbara is just one of them.

If I recall correctly, there was a level in the pre-announcement trailer that featured a bunch of Rabbids in it.

Rayman isn't very suited to touch controls. Not to mention it's an iOS game. I'll pass.

Have you played it? It's an auto-run game where all you do is jump, hover and punch. Very simple, and rather fun too. A proper Rayman, 2D or 3D, game with touch controls would be horrible. But for what Jungle Run is, they work fine.

Also the game has one of the most sadistic achievements I've seen in a long time- Complete all 36 levels from start to finish in order without missing a single Lum or dying. That's 3600 lums in an auto-scoll game. Miss one and it's failure.
