Hahaha alright, thanks again :P

Speaking of Free Comic Book Day, I can't wait for Sonic's issue this year - it looks so cool. Here's the cover for those who missed it:

Seriously, I'm excited for it. I'm always up for a little nostalgic Sonic retrospective haha

And lol @ Super Sonic's over-exaggerated smile :P (if you don't see him, look to the right of the Sonic logo)

I prefer Tracy's more cartoony style, really. This approach to the comic is okay, but I don't like it as much.

I agree, there's something about Tracy's art that I just really like, though Renae's does look nice, I still prefer Tracy's over hers.

Man, I'm still waiting for 197, and I bet I won't see SU #1 till next month

There's no comic book stores here, so my chances of getting the Archives/Selects are...non existent. I've been sticking to downloading issues for all the ones I've missed but... it's not the same as owning the actual comic book and being able to hold it and read it instead of scrolling to view the pages :(

Did archie do an entire arc in the Sonic Battle style?

No, but Spaz did do a homage of their art style in two covers.

And they also did do a whole Riders style story once.

Yeah, the thing I like about Tracy's is how he's got a very similar style to most of the Sonic drawings that come out of Sonic Team. Very cartoony, very smooth looking. Though from what I've seen of Renae(i.e. that preview) I think it also looks awesome, since the sort of more realistic style adds a lot. Especially with the Dark Legion. For some reason whenever I think of stuff with the echidnas, I think it looks cooler with realistic. Probably cause the DL cybernetics looks all the more awesome. And if not realistic, then extremely cartoony, like in "Return to Angel Island."

And while some might prefer Yarley!'s style, think about this: if he's not drawing the comics, that only means mroe time to work on his little encyclopedia project.

I have started to read the Archie comic from book 1 along with like the mini serieses. I'm only on book 16 of 190 of the main book. ((Is the whole book comic just a mess of mini stories?)) I think the need to get the super sonic mini series too and the sonic and knuckles ones. I think thats it. *is basically new to it*

ART: Renae De Liz

As much as I love Tracy Yardley's work, it's nice to see someone new doing the art after nothing but Yardley for so long.

As for the series, I first got issue #37 years ago and haven't looked back since. I've gotten a bunch of issues before that (at a hefty price) and also got all the specials since then. I figure if it's the only way to (sort of) continue my favorite cartoon ever, then so be it.

Also, when is this year's free comic day release? I'm never able to remember.

I actually like the Archie comics. They're really fun to read~ (A friend just gave me his entire collection...) i'm pretty sure there are over 100 in there but i haven't looked to see if those are other comics. He just told me they were only sonic ones, though. But that issue posted up there looks different...I'm not sure I really like it.

Isn't the only other sonic comic series that isn't like a manga or something a fleetline or fleet something comic from the uk. The one with psycho super sonic. *going to try and read these archie ones faster*I'm still stuck in 1996 lol

Yeah, Fleetway had a Sonic comic in Europe, but it was canceled eventually. I think European fans should have another comic series of the own, like how we have Archie's comics.

Epic win.

Making my 1st new post.

I really enjoyed Sonic Universe #1. It's all about it's own story rather then jumping to too many parts at once. This is what I think we've wanted with the comics, but it'd be nice to see more video game related stories. Not adaptations of the games, but stories not tieing into the Archy universe. But this was a fun issue, can't wait for the next.

ive always thought all the different canons were different universes in the archie comics multiverse. underground and sonic x were already to be shown as part of it. About the latest issue: that art work is amazing. it really makes it seem more, sonickky then some artists have done, especially the one who did the art for the xorda arc, god i hated that art, it felt like i was reading a furry's porn mag :P ive got all issues from 40-193 on my laptop cos we dont get comics downunda.

I used to read a few of the comics that my friend had. But I am going to get the archives as well as the begginings book. I like how the Archie series has a more dark feeling than the British Sonic comic. Some of the stories in the UK comics were really cool, like the chaos saga, and the metal Knuckles saga. But I wonder how many of the Archie comics will be made?

I'm a "the video games are the only REAL Sonic!" kind of a fan.

Way to be closed-minded. Much like with SatAM, the comics didn't have much of a story to work with, since SEGA of America didn't feel that the Japanese style would appeal to American children, so we just got the basic "Robotnik turns Sonic's friends to robots and wants to rule Mobius" premise. Furthermore, the game plots aren't always brilliant, and I think it's foolish to think that they're perfect. Not trying to be rude, but really. Plus, the Adventure elements didn't come in until 1999; the cartoons and comics started in '93.

Sorry if this derails the topic, but I really hate when people say that kind of things. B|

As for Archie itself, I only really have read a few of the newer issues, and they kind of bug me. It's mainly the fact that they keep offing and introducing characters and, to me, it feels like they're focusing too much on fighting rather than plot and characterization.

I'd rather read about the characters fighting Eggman and other threats than see slumber parties and Sonic angstily wailing at the moon on his geetar.

Hahahah, I hear ya, I hear ya.

Mind you I take every universe into consideration in the Sonic series, and I believe that every universe is canon to a point in association to the games. Sega is even starting to accept other American-based canon. As for me, I do enjoy the Archie stories and SatAM storylines for providing an attempt at some solid depth to the ideas.

Characterization doesn't have to be OOC angst, though. It can be anything about the characters and their developments, really. o.o; I just can't see Sonic angsting about anyway; being upset, maybe, not not to a point where it'd be OMG ANGST. I'd just like to see more than fighting, fighting, and more fighting.

Oh Great, return of the Sonic/Sally clones. Not that I don't like Sonic/Sally, I just don't like their kids.

Rouge/Knux kids would creep me out too but I like the paring better then Knux/Julie. Plus Son/Amy is a more logical relationship, because Sonic's nature wouldn't allow him to be tied down like that.

I thought that future was altered? I guess we're going to find what happened.

Might take back my opinions about Universe if they're going to do a lot of heavy tie-in's to Sonic's comic like this rather then picking random characters to fallow around.

Question... did anyone here have a subscription to the SONIC X series and if so, does it get transferred to the UNIVERSE series? Just curious, because I haven't gotten a copy of UNIVERSE #1 yet.

angst in a sonic comic seems okay in small doses but that doesn't mean it should all be FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT even back in the first comics there was a little character building when it was all those mini stories.

I don't really see how SonAmy is logical for Archie? I mean, Archie is based on SatAM, and Amy wasn't really established in that comic until after Sonic and Sally were established as close friends at least, not to mention characters who have known each other since childhood. I haven't read all of the comic, but Amy, regardless of 'verse, has always struck me as having a crush...but not much more than that.

Not to start pairing debates or anything.

EDIT: I do wish that they would have been more creative with the kids, though. Their designs are so bland. :/
