I guess maybe it gives them the opportunity to learn and grow from the experience.

I was thinking more in a slapstick, "You got knocked the fuck out" sort of way. It just amuses me.

Yet I get upset when anyone bad mouths them in real life.

What we deserve... hoo boy that gave me the creeps.

Seriously though, there're so many different stands on what people want I'm not too sure of what we'd actually deserve. Probably something that's just like Colours was...  -_-

Not us, silly. Archie. Despite our annoyance toward all the lawsuits from Penders and Fulop and whatnot, it's clear Archie does owe them to an extent due to their questionable business practices in the past. And now that the Sonic comic is out of their hands, we can finally move on to new Sonic comic adventures with IDW while Archie continues to deal with the fallout.

Oh, all right, I got worried for a minute here. :D

I dunno, I think everyone included in that "fine mess" are more or less to blame for what happened, reboot and all. And I'm still raw about the way they cancelled the comics. A Freaking Tweet.

It's a bit like all those Sonic cartoons; cancelled without a "proper" ending, though this time it was about as proper as one can create without knowing the situation at all... that the thing's cancelled.

i'll limit myself to do a top 5 (in no specific order) for each title, although i consider the whole Shattered World Crisis as one big arc, i'll focus on smaller story arcs for post-SGW, soo lets go:

pre-SGW:

StH: Eggman Empire (a.k.a the destruction of knothole); Enerjak: Reborn; Problems Abroad (#213 - #218); the Iron Dominion arc; the Fall of the Freedom Fighters (#231 - #235).     Almost made it to the list: Rise of King Naugus (#219 - #224); Genesis.

SU: Journey to the East; The Tails Adventure (Trouble in Paradise); The Silver Saga (Fractured Mirror); Scrambled; Secret Freedom (Unsung Heroes);   Almost made it to the list: Scourge: Lockdown; Chaotix Quest.

post-SGW:

StH: Countdown to Chaos; Control/Ambushed; Panic in the Sky; Thunder, Rain and Lightning/Face of the Enemy (#277 - #279 , Highlight to "Hidden Costs" here); Damage Control/The Chase.  Almost made it to the list: Ray of Hope; Champions.

SU: Spark of Life; Shadow Fall; Total Eclipse; Eggman's Dozen; Shattered.  Almost made it to the list: The Case of the Pirate Princess; The Silver Age.

So which arcs were your guys' favorites (pre and post SGW)?

Oh God. When it comes to Pre-SGW that's extremely tough. I remember nothing but ranting and raving about what I was reading in that era, despite liking it enough to keep coming back for more. I found the SGW to be a God-send. Most of my favorite arcs are actually from that era.

Pre-SGW:

StH

"Enerjak Reborn" had the first issue of the comics I ever bought and read and there was a huge gap in between me picking up my next one. When I got the back issues I did eventually find out that it was a really good story that I missed.

"Order from Chaos" was an EXCELLENT story. To me, it's the prime example of how you do clean up and get rid of the leftovers from a previous writer that you no longer need. Eggman destroying M when he thought it was her who betrayed him was great. Him trying to delete A.D.A.M when he found out he was tricked was great. A.D.A.M's betrayal of Eggman and capture of Tails and Shadow, followed by Eggman's reluctant team up with Sonic and how he cemented his villainy within that scuffle by blowing up both A.D.A.M and Tommy Turtle with his cannons was an excellent turn around too. I always loved Eggman's response of that having been a waste of his time while Tails cried over the loss of the guy. It got to me a bit.

"The Iron Dominion" arc was also something I liked a lot. I remember not being too fond of Issue 200 but I did like how much it was hitting home that things were falling apart around them. The ending was a bit too clean for my liking but that was fine.

SU

"Scrambled" was the best one hands down. Seeing Eggman devastate the competition the way he did in such a messed up manner was enjoyable.

Other than that, there was the third issue of "Journey to the East" where Lynx got jipped royally in a way that made me feel sorry for the guy. The dilemma there was interesting. I can't think of any other SU arcs that didn't have something that disappointed more or that I ultimately found were just alright though.

Post-SGW

Sth

"Champions" was the best one hands down for me. Still is.

"Panic in the Sky" was excellent the whole way through in my opinion as well. I loved seeing the Hooligans and the Battle Kuku army demolish the heroes in such a concerted effort at the beginning.

SU

"Eggman's Dozen" is not only the best Sonic Universe arc ever but it's one of my favorite stories in the history of Sonic media period.

"The Great Chaos Caper" was a lot of fun and it showcased the Chaotix in this new era in a way that was endearing and allowed them to be who they were without a lot of the baggage that dragged me down.

"The Case of the Pirate Princess" was one where they FINALLY got an arc all to their own that was actually about the three of them in the way I envisioned. No advertising about it being about them and then it being revealed it was actually about Mighty. They got an arc and I got it right before the book was cancelled. Thank Christ.

"Total Eclipse" was pretty good too. If anything it really made me feel sorry for Eclipse.

Pre-SGW:

StH

'Mecha Madness' (StH #29 & Mecha Madness Special) and 'Return to Angel Island' (StH #138-141) are the first two that come to mind for the Pre-Flynn era of the comic, the former for just being a big exciting fight and the latter for being effectively continuity porn done right, I also retain a warts and all fondness 'EndGame' (StH #47-50) it's still tense and high stakes - even with the odd silly bit. On a similar but somewhat lesser note is 'Dark Vengeance' (KtE # 7-9 & StH #56) which I still find exciting and entertaining albeit flawed, i'm also pretty keen on 'Bat Fight' (StH #116) but...let's move on.

Post-Flynn there's a LOT: 'Eggman Empire' (StH #175-177) is probably my favourite Archie!Sonic story, 'Enerjak Reborn' (StH #181-184), 'When Worlds Collide' (StH #247-#251, Mega Man #23-27 & SU #51-54) and the whole Genesis arc in it's entirety (StH #225-231) are close behind, the latter two being big fun events and the former two being big-ass high stakes stories that clear up a lot of loose ends, which  i also why I really like 'Order From Chaos' (StH #168-169) now I think about it. I also really enjoy the complete Bold New Moebius arc (StH #189-197,  Sonic X #40 & SU #1) which felt like it finally did the concept justice and had all the Archie Hedgies together!

SU

for me Sonic Universe became the real draw of Archie!Sonic once we got past the Mobius 25 Years Later arc (nothing against it per-say just the book really picked up for me after it is all) but if I had to pick some: 'Forged in the Fire' (SU #50) which may be the best Metal Sonic story ever, Metal looked utterly badass and Shard was lovable as all hell, 'Trouble in Paradise' (SU #17-20) and 'Inside Job' (#29-30) for both being great fun, 'Fractured Mirror' (SU #25-28) for being disturbing and making me like Silver, 'Echoes of the Past' (SU #9-13) for it's great use of my favourite Archie Freedom Fighters: the Downunda Freedom Fighters and 'All For One' (SU #46-49) for having the Chaotix go on a world tour and have Mighty hit people with a tank...that’s most of them innit?

Post-SGW:

StH

I honestly found the post-reboot Sonic the Hedgehog to be…not shallow but empty somehow, it didn’t wow me but I did greatly enjoy 'Champions' (StH #268-271) it was a bit long but it was fun to see one of my favourite Sonic games (yes, really) get such a great treatment and 'Hidden Costs' (StU #277-279) for the character work and interaction with Cassia, Clove & Bunnie Rabbot.

SU

Once again my preferred book of the two, Pirate Plunder Panic drove me crazy when it was being published for being four issues of stalling in another universe when all I wanted to do was find out what had happened to the survivors of the old universe but after that 'Spark of Life' (SU #71-74) was touching with a really creepy villain, 'Eggman’s Dozen' (SU #84-86) is probably my SECOND favourite Archie!Sonic arc, loads of characters I like doing awesome things in a row, yes please! And 'The Case of the Pirate Princess' (SU #91-94), the very last *sniff* complete story in Archie!Sonic is just a massive load of fun.

Pre-SGW:SU

STH

None. Most of them were shit which is why I recommend my perfect way of reading the main comics.

SU:

Again, none.

Post-SGW:

STH

I literally glance over the pages, so I can't say for sure.

SU

Same reasons as above.

Now, My way to read the comics:

Spoiler

Start from the mini-series. If needed, read some of the spinoffs to keep context. Once you reach issue 50, skip all the way to 252, while pretending Worlds Collide never happened, then think up a better reason for the SGW, and skipping Worlds Unite and pretending that never happened either. Switch between STH and SU frequently, occasionally switching it up to continue storylines such as "Spark of Life" from there, and finish at the final issues of both.

I only read 2 pre-SGW arcs, both of which were from Universe: The Shadow Saga and Treasure Team Tango. I enjoyed them both well enough, though I can't really make an objective decision. I guess I'd have to go with TTT, since it had a more coherent overarching story, while Shadow Saga felt more like disconnected filler to establish Shadow's role in the universe and retell some game events. Though if I had to speak against TTT, I'd have to say that Rouge was just absolute, unlikable scum, and it made no sense to me how she punk'd Blaze so easily when they fought (though Shadow nonchalantly pwning Amy with her hammer is priceless, as were Cream's interactions with Omega. Makes me want to see her with Shadow even more).

Post-SGW, my favorite StH arc was probably Champions. No idea why, really, and somewhat ironic since it had little-to-nothing to do with the Freedom Fighters, and I've been pretty adamant about them coming back in the IDW books. Honey made a good part of that arc for me. For SU, I'd have to say Spark of Life, if only because Nicole is my waifu favorite comic character.

Favorite

Enerjak Reborn It's Ian's absolute best story and the reveal of Knuckles as Enerjak threw me through a Loop. Plus it's the absolute best way to kill off Locke. He and Knuckles parted on less than great terms so the fact they don't even see each other at all in the story give's it an amazing Tragic ring. Better than the Child abandoning piece of shit deserves TBH.

Least Favorite

The Entire Iron Dominion Saga Let me get this off the bat I love Ian. he's a great writer and a genuinely nice human being...but he also suffers from what I like to call "Bendis syndrome". That's where a Writer takes a story that could have worked at say 4 or 5 issues and doubles it by stretching it as thin as possible. This arc could have been 6 issues tops. Iron Dominion arrives-Iron Queen uses Magitech on New Mobotropolis-Journey to the East-Sonic, Sally, Tails and Kahn come back and stop them. But instead  we had to cover up the fact Eggman was left in New Megaopolis and throw in a filler issue about the Iron King smashing a generator. This didn't need to be 12 issues 16 counting Journey to the East and it moves at a snails pace as a result.

Favorite

A Tie between Treasure Team Tango & Secret Freedom TTT: Ok this one's divisive amongst fans but I loved it. It was a fun lighthearted adventure. There was some good Humor (I seriously think Flynn's comic timing is underappreciated) and a big fun Knock Down drag out fight. I will admit there's one thing I hate about it and that's the portrayal of Rouge. Yeah she like's Gems and has a grey morality but she'd never let a world die for a Gem. SF: I loved the Secret Freedom Fighters and wish they got to do more. This arc showed them all off in great light and got down to why this Team actually works. Plus it honestly made me like Elias who I never hated before but never really thought about too hard.

Least Favorite

Mobius 30 Years Later I want to Preface this. This is 100% Bias on my part. I hate all the XYL stuff. It was a terrible Idea that never should have been revisited. I don't care about seeing Sonic and Co's kids and frankly I wish Knuckles arc did get published here to spare us from another boring look into the boring future that muddled Ian's own statement that it isn't THE Future just A Future by having Silver in it. Now I do think in concept there's nothing wrong with a Tikal/Chaos fusion. It just comes right the fuck out of nowhere and reads entirely like Ian was strapped for an idea so he just threw a Giant Monster into the mix.

...This actually pretty hard because well...I didn't really hate any of the Reboot. I thought it was all fairly Solid. My Favorite though has to be Champions. Yeah I know not very original but it's just such a fun Self Contained Tournament arc. Honey and Breezie were both great additions to the series and I'm bummed there's basically no was Breezie will be in IDW. Hopefully a version of Honey similar to this one shows up though because she's a delight. Diana Skelley's Art is terrific and the Action scenes are engaging plus how can you not laugh at Amy getting blasted into the audience. Just a fun arc altogether.

Least Favorite

...Um...Er...Like I said there's not really any arcs I didn't like. I will admit due to Financial woes I kinda missed a lot of the issues after #277 but even still there's nothing that really comes to mind.

SU

Favorite

Spark of Life This is probably my absolute favorite arc ever and I'll say it now Aleah Baker is underrated. There's so much cool and fascinating lore revealed about Nicole and I love Dr. Ellidy and Phage is so awesome and creepy. Plus I'll admit I was the first bit of Sallicole trash to spout out of this arc. They're just so adorable together and they care so much about each other it's just perfect. I just love this arc.

See STH.

Not even the Worlds Unite crossover?

Day after day, I continously imagine adaptations for Mania, Forces and Chronicles in the Archie comics. What would you guys think of such adaptations?

Besides the crossover, I'm gonna have to say the most flawed story post-SGW was "Ambushed". Sally leading the Freedom Fighters into what she already suspected to be a trap, only to beat herself up for it later was just...what.

Ok yeah admittedly Ambushed wasn't great.

Only possible explanation other than this is it's all about principles.

If there's a Chaos Emerald, it must be arbitrarily taken into possession (read as; stolen)!

i always saw that moment as a desperated move, they couldn't let Eggman have the Chaos Emerald, it was not an option to let it there, therefore they were willing to take the risk of the trap (as pointed out by Sally), they just could not imagine the trap being 3 E-Series robots + forcefield + the capsule being propelled out of their reach

So I suppose this pretty much confirms the fact Dr. Eggman has a lot of imagination then. B)

Well, they keep telling imagination is important for the genius kind.
