I think Scourge will shine better without Penders' backstory for him. He doesn't need it, anyways. Just have him be some sort of dark manifestation of Sonic that somehow became independent from him, or....something. I dunno.

Well, off the top of my head...

Sonic was running through another one of Eggman's death traps. A horrifying experience for a normal mobian, but to the world's fastest hedgehog, it was another day at the office. The other Freedom Fighters were still fighting off the fortresses' outside defenses, while Sally instructed Sonic from outside. "Sonic, do you see the emerald?" asked Sally, rather impatiently as the hedgehog looked around it. "Hold on a sec Sal" replied Sonic as he quickly dodged a punch from one of Eggman's egg spawns, grabbing it in a counter, and spinning it into a wall, destroying it.

Meanwhile, Dr. Eggman was sitting in his control center, watching Sonic mow down his defenses. Normally he'd be cursing the Blue Blur's name by this point, but instead, he had a wide grin on his face, along with his traditional "HO HO" laugh, as Orbot and Cubot looked on with concern. "Boss? Are you feeling alright?" asked Orbot. "Of course I am you waste of scrap metal! My plans are going perfectly! That'd Blue Rodent won't know what hit him!". Eggman hit a button on his control panel, lighting up a machine in the distance, holding the emerald inside.

Sonic saw the machine and gave his signature smile, as he began his usual brand of gloating. "Giving up already Eggy?" Sally, talking over Sonic's communicator attempted to warn him. "Sonic, don't you think this is all too easy?" asked Sally concerned, as the outside defenses started to retreat. Sonic just shrugged and replied "You're being too cautious Sal, it's about time we got an easy win anyhow." Before Sally could reply, Sonic dashed off to the machine housing the chaos emerald, only for the doors to close the second he entered.

"What the...?!" Sonic said out in shock, as the emerald he grabbed feels less powerful, just as the door shut. Eggman suddenly began laughing on the screens found inside the machine. "Once again, your pesky quick thinking got you in trouble!, I see you have grabbed my little Negative Emerald. You have your friend Tails to thank for that, since I based his design off his fake emerald!"

The machine began beeping an alert "Scanning Begun" as Sonic attempted to break the glass, only to find his spin dashes isn't working. "And I ensured that my machine could withhold your limits rodent." Eggman took another look at the negative emerald in Sonic's hand. "Hm. A negative emerald. I suppose I should name it. We have the Chaos Emeralds...so how about THE ANARCHY BERYL!" Sonic scoffed off the name "What a stupid name Eggface".

Eggman just laughed off the comment, as the machine suddenly hit the anarchy beryl with several lasers, which then hit Sonic, causing him to fall in pain. "W-What are you doing Eggman?!" Sonic yelled out in pain, as Eggman continued laughing. After several minutes of intense pain, the beams stopped, as Eggman reappeared on screen. "While we have a recovery moment Sonic, allow me to explain my brilliant genius. I decided to base my brilliant machine off two previous concepts. The machine created to scan and create Metal Sonic (Sonic OVA btw), and my old Grandfather's little "ultimate lifeform", of course re adapted by my genius."

Sonic slowly got off the ground, and staggered, still in pain. "W-What's wrong Doc? Run out of original ideas...?" Suddenly the hedgehog was punched into the door, as the door collapsed and Sonic flew through it, falling to the ground. Sonic looked around dazed "W-What just did that...?" Suddenly, a green figure appears out of the machine, and a sneaker flies in front of Sonic's face.

"Get ready Sonic, because a real Scourge has just appeared in your life"

Notes: Alright, so I just did a short story on how I think Scourge could be reintroduced into the comic without the anti world bullshit. All ties to an anti-world are cut. There is no Anti-World. None. Nada. Instead, I had an idea where Eggman takes the machine from the Sonic OVA (for those who hasn't seen it, he uses a massive scanner to scan Sonic's data). But instead of fully taking Sonic's data, it takes all of it, and reverses it, creating Scourge, a new character altogether who's the complete reverse of all of Sonic's traits. Aggressive, selfish, and only caring about himself.

I then decided to use Project Shadow so Eggman based the hedgehog design, and "dark reflection of Sonic" off that there, and to add in further Adventure 2 ties, in order to power the whole thing, and create Super Scourge, Eggman based the design off Tails' fake emerald from Adventure 2, and then reverses the properties in order to create a negative emerald, which instead has a balance of positive and negative energy, like the real emeralds had in Adventure 1, it instead has nothing but negative energy, which powers Scourge up for longer because of the fact he's using the full power of the emerald, rather than Sonic just using the positive power of the emerald.

"Scourge" could also be a nickname he gives himself. You could go oldschool reference and have his real name be "Terios", too.

If they called him "Ashura" I think I'd twist screws under Flynn's fingernails, but hey this is all hypothetical anyway

Huh, I actually like that idea. Small continuation time.

Sonic looked up at the green hedgehog and tried to throw a punch, only for it to be dodged at the exact same time. "How did you...?" Sonic said, shocked, that someone managed to beat his speed. "Nice move there Slick" the green hedgehog said as he kicked Sonic in the face. At the same time, the other freedom fighters arrived on the scene. The green hedgehog laughed "More chumps for me to beat down?" He did a spin dash, almost hitting Tails, but Bunnie leaped in mid air and grabbed him. "Well, for a bunch of chumps, blue boy sure picked some nice looking chumps" Scourge said as he saw Bunnie, and then did a homing attack to force her to let go.

Suddenly, Scourge was teleported away, appearing in Eggman's lab. "Now where am I?!" shouted the green hedgehog in anger as he was forced to abandon his fight. Eggman ran up to him. "Ah, my latest experiment is a success! A perfect clone of Sonic the Hedgehog! Come along Terios, we have tests to run". Terios laughed in the Doctor's face. "Terios the Hedgehog? What a stupid name, by a sad, stupid little human". Eggman just let out a laugh. "Silly hedgehog, you didn't think I'd have a countermeasure to control you? There's a device in your ear that got you here, but it does much mo--" Suddenly Terios punched his ear a few times, and then turned his head to the side, with a wide grin, as metal pieces came out of his ear.

"You talk too much Doctor" he said, as he punched Eggman into the wall. "T-Terios" Eggman replied in terror. The green hedgehog laughed "I told you, Terios is an idiotic name. No. I need a name better suiting me. My name? IS SCOURGE THE HEDGEHOG" Eggman realizing he'd have no chance of controlling Scourge, quickly hopped onto an escape pod as Scourge began tearing apart the lab.

I really don't care that Scourge is gone. I feel bad for those who liked him, but he didn't really do much for me. To be fair, I haven't read a lot of his issues, but from what I've seen, he was just, well...kind of obnoxious. He just had a really annoying personality that made me want to roll my eyes and not want to spend time with the character. Not only is he a dark reflection of Sonic in terms of morality, he also distorts all of Sonic's charming personality traits into being repulsive :P Yeah, obviously you want to hate the villains in some sense, but I don't really think you want villains to just be annoying to the reader.

He wasn't really threatening or interesting to me because of how immature, stupid, and stereotypically "punk"-y he seemed - a personality he ultimately inherited from who Penders designed him to be. If they had poked more fun at these traits, I might've liked him a lot more, bu instead they seemed to play him very straight, which was hard for me to take. I also wasn't a big fan of his vaguely defined and somewhat poorly justified (in that his mutation by the Master Emerald doesn't have much precedent) is-way-stronger-than-Sonic-ness, though I guess that's a minor issue.

Plus, his design is very boring, even if it's somewhat justified considering his origin...and his basic concept is really not creative at all. Don't get me wrong, I love alternate dimensions and think they have tons of story potential, but...well, it wasn't really met here. It was just way too simplistic. Yes, Ian DID try to make things more interesting, but ultimately he was building on a pretty poor foundation. I would rather just start out with something better than change up something that already exists (which may be a big reason why I like the reboot in general).

The one thing Scourge had going with him was that, unlike far too many characters from the old continuity, he at least looked like a Sonic character! ...A very shoddy Sonic fan character, but a Sonic character nonetheless!

(Sorry if I'm being a little harsh on a character y'all like '^^ I guess I tend to react a bit strongly to "hyped" things that I don't care for.)

If the Scourge project is based off of project Shadow, let's say that because he couldn't involve the black arms, eggman took the biolizard route and gave "Terios" a life support system, that conveniently looks like his crown from his post SGW days.

Like I can't draw but

Imagine this with red visor sunglasses, or maybe that scouter thing like Julian Snively has.

Also reptilian eyes and fangs because I want him to be vampiric. He needs to become dio.

Other than Scourge, what other characters have the potential to come back?

If they do bring back Scourge in some way, he has to be completely different from "Evil Sonic".

If Thrash was based off a color glitch in S3&K, why can't we have Ashura come in somehow?

Because, no. Just.... Just, god please. No.

Also, what other characters have some sort of a chance to come back from the Old Universe?

~ Bow Sparrow stands a strong chance of returning, I do believe, since Mordred Hood is still around.
~ I bet Thrash will come back too, albeit with vastly different motivations and backstory.
~ Hopefully Bomb & Heavy, since they're technically SEGA characters.

That's all that I can really think of, off the top of my head.

They seem to like bringing really old characters back from previous series'. Maybe we'll see some from Sonic Underground like Sonia, Manic, or Aleena..though I imagine with very much different backstories.

Ian said that they wouldn't be in.

-Bow is already back in the new universe. In the one appearance Mordred has had so far, he said he's been busy trying to take care of "Bow and his gang". Now, whether his gang will be the same one seen in Chaotix Quest or new is the question here, but the only really problematic one of them is Friar Buck as he was Penders.

-Thrash...technically is fine to come back. But Ian's still debating it due to the sheer amount of baggage he's got. I mean, first appearance had him helping out the Downunda FFs, and then suddenly he wiped out every goddamn Echidna ever bar three (Knuckles, Dimitri who was stuck in a box, and Finitevus who was MIA). That's quite a leap.

-No reason for Heavy and Bomb not to come back, but I've already gotten on the case of that in regards to how soon.

Well Thrash's history has been erased, but yea....he'd need an entirely different background for people to forget about the shit he pulled.

I would have thought it'd be interesting to make Thrash have a longstanding feud with Knuckles, like the Devils hate Echidnas, but that probably wouldn't fly with SEGA.

I suppose he could always be a rival treasure hunter, and perhaps an unsavory one at that... or just make him an Egg Boss.

I'm in no hurry to see more characters come back, though. There's enough going on in the book as it is, with plenty more coming soon, and we haven't made a ton of progress in two years that we need more piled on. If Thrash stays gone, he's a relatively small loss.

That's right. I forgot about the mention they gave him. Cool.

I see no reason for them to change the team. Rob, Mari-An, and Friar Buck are the only ones who can't come back.

Again, where are you getting this information from?

Also, if Snively Robotnik can make the leap from Eggman's scheming nephew to Julian Snively, scheming G.U.N. R&D specialist, I see no reason why Thrash can't return with a whole new backstory. This entire reboot's "quite a leap". That's largely why it's so great.

Just like the info before, it's what Ian's said on Twitter and Bumbleking over the last couple of years.

It would be pretty cool and interesting to see Thrash come back but I can't see him having any purpose outside of his original goal. On the other hand, I'm curious to see  what the reboot could do with him.

I never found Thrash that interesting, honestly. I think we have enough Heroes and Anti-heroes anyway, I want to see more straight up villains.

It's far more of an out-of-universe issue. Even if Ian changes everything about Thrash, people will still look at him and think of a very infamous story brought upon my legal issues in which he did something really horrible.

True enough.
I'd just hate to see him get tossed out. He's well designed, and I think he'd make a great adversary for Knuckles, since Finitevus and Enerjak are completely out of play now.

Well it's not like they can't just make a new villain that's like the old villains without the bullshit (you know, like new vs old Knuckles).
