Artwork: Comics and pictures

The majority of these I did when I was around 10 years old. I used to copy the covers of various comic books that I liked, I didn't have paints or special colours, all I had was a pack of felt tip pens and a specialist skin colour pen which would place about a gallon of ink on the paper.

I do not have a scanner so I have to take photographs for you.

This one was a copy of a cross over done by Marvel and DC. It was a really cool story, the artwork and the quality of the comic was really high. Basic plot was that a scientist had managed to cure the psychotic nature of the Joker and Carnage, but low and behold Carnage breaks free of his control and kidnaps the Joker. Soon the joker is back and the two plot Gothan Cities destruction.

This was propably the most recent picture I drew (out of the bulk I'll be showing), it was quite difficult to colur in using the felt tip pens due to how dark the original cover was.

Woo! Who didn't draw these guys! Again, this was from a cover... but for some reason I think it was a video box cover as apposed to a comic cover, I didn't have many turtles comics, but I did have a lot of VHS tapes. Probably one of the best uses for the felt tips, came out looking really good. I can't remember why I did the belts so high though, not sure if thats how the original looked or just a mistake on my part... also Shredders mask, don't know why one half is blue and the other isn't.

arttopicbeano.jpg

Ok so I used to/still collect Beano Books. I've got just about every year going back to 1955. So after I read them I would draw both the front and the back covers, they were the first things I started to draw, I began with the front covers and naturally they're not great... hence why I'm not showing them... but as I went on I got better, until I finished them all.. so then I started to do the back covers. This was one of the more better looking ones I did. Fortunately the felt tip pens looked quite good, one thing I'm not happy with is how Walter and the Softies turned out, felt tip pens don't look too good when you're drawing small characters.

Well now... a few days ago Nemain asked me if I'd consider doing a comic since I had some funny ideas... so I tried my hand at doing some 'computer art' for the first time in... well... ever. I knew that it wouldn't be good quality, so please no deliberate OMG SHIT! The idea is to do it as best I can, but then make a story/write dialogue to match the absurdity of the style. This is what I've come up with.

For those who have bought toot off me in the past, typically this is the guy who acompanies it on the way. Don't know how I came up with this character or even if it's not just something I've seen years ago that I liked, I just use it because I kinda like it, my thoughts on this guy is that he's trapped on a deserted island and occasionally things wash ashore for him to look at, nothing useful, but things to keep him entertained for around 5 min whilst he waits for rescue.

If you want to see the rest, head over to the emerald coast.

Sample from the second comic I did, not uploaded yet... lol I've been told it might be uploaded this weekend but we'll have to wait and see. I decided to do one of the EC staff in their staff room. I was given a photo of them all and decided to put my own little spin on them all... so from left to right we have Urtheart, Vger and Nemain! On reflection I wish I'd included a wrench in this one.

arttopicwaroftheworlds.jpg

Finally theres this... This is a painting I did back in Secondary school in year 9 so.. urm... 14/15 maybe? Well anyway, it was my first attempt at doing a huge painting like this and I seem to recall that it was quite popular with a lot of people in the 7th and 8th year. Since it was so large (A-1 size) they had to put it up on an easel in a classroom so a lot of people saw it. Since I was using paints/art supplies from a secondary school and not doing GCSE's for another year, I had to make do with the bog standard supplies. So no fine art paints for me. Just the giant paint blocks in a plastic tray.

I'm quite happy how this turned out, especially the flame effects.. however... one thing I still don't know to this day that I like is the white/smoke thing... My art teacher at the time suggested it and before I even knew what was going on, had already supplied a colour wash to that area... so I had no choice but to go along with it (otherwise bye bye grade and good GCSE group) since the time until the deadline meant there was no way I could re-start it. Theres reasons why I like it and reasons why I dont... Like... I don't like how the smoke goes towards the tri-pod. I think it should go away from it. I don't like how the smoke looks like a wipe (which was pretty much what he did), It needs to be more... fluffy... But I do like how the wash/colouring turned out. Maybe if I did it again I'd simply scrap the smoke and put some kind of ruined landscape in the background.... now that I think about it... maybe a tree in flames would look good. Wouldn't make sense in terms of the context, but it would make it look pretty sinister, the martain destroys all nature! Not just the humans!

Might upload some more stuff when I find it/get chance, theres quite a cool drawing of Splatterhouse I did a few years back, I like that a lot as it proves to me I'm not too far over the hill just yet.

Everything is better when it includes at least one massive wrench.

I'm particularly impressed with the painting you've done, Gnasher. I think the simple background really makes the rest stick out, and the general array of the picture is just pleasing on the eye. :)

First of all, I have a new comic up over at the emerald coast. So read if you dare as nothing can save you from the "Kung-Fu Rela Chao's on the Rampage! 2!"

Ok, did some digging and found another two pieces of work I did. These are much more recent than the last lot, one is a couple of years old, the other is slightly older.

First up is this old picture of Fleetways Super Sonic.

arttopicsupersonic.jpg

It's not a great picture, it's not finished, needs a lot of shading to it. But I wanted to do it because I was pretty sick of every single picture of Super Sonic that I saw online at the time. This was just after Sonic Heroes when I did this, and every time I looked for a picture of Super Sonic it was the same thing... A brighly yellow super hero with lots of stars, energy, looking all nice. Or... in Fleetways case... A brightly coloured super villain with lots of stars and energy.

It was boring. So I decided to take a bit of a spin on it. I wanted to do a different take on Fleetways usual Super Sonic. Typically he appears when under great stress or close promimity to chaos energy. So I wanted him to look and act like his transformation.

For example, if it's due to emerald energy, then it's the brilliant yellow energy super hero type transformation. Anger/extreme danger, then he looks like this. More or a fire kind, he irradiates flames and heat, like the classic super sonic, only he has this added ability. Kinda like the Human Torch from the fantastic four. If I were a fan character type person, hell I'd probably do a drawing of him shooting a strip of flame or something else.

Another idea I had was for a more radioactive style Super Sonic, In fleetways history, Sonic once transformed under a sense of fear, when he's trying to escape Brutus, his friends are in danger and he can't protect them, unlike normal stress that he's had previously this seemed more like a sense of fear. So I had this idea of a Super Sonic that looked more green in tone and would be harmful to people in close proximity to him. Again, if I were a fan character person, probably make him slower than normal Sonic, but as a powerful added defense, bad guys would dare not hit him.

However with these varients, they never left my mind. Which is a shame, since I love the idea of a Super Sonic that looks a little bit like a Goul from Fallout.

Ok next up we have this.

arttopicsplatterhouse.jpg

This is the most recent picture I've done (with serious effort). Recognise it? Yup, it's from Splatterhouse 2. I've always liked Splatterhouse 2, one of my earliest games on the MegaDrive and one of the most played games. Would you believe it was a random gift from my mum and not something I wanted. My mum rocks.

Anyway. I liked the monsters in Splatterhouse 2, mainly because they looked like monsters, not deformed humans, or humanoid, they all looked like monsters. Most of the time they looked like insects, but they were still pretty cool, especially when they transformed after you'd hit them a few times. I really like how this turned out, since it was my first serious effort for a long time, I was overjoyed at how it turned out. Yeah theres some issues with it, like how Ricks left leg seems to vanish. Also despite being 'correct' the right claw and arm of the monster seems to vanish or be wrong. The reason why Ricks chest seems a bit void of shading is down to the flash on the camera. It took out a lot of the tones on the original.

Due to a lack of demand I now have another comic up over at the Emerald Coast. Here is a short sample from it.

wispsample.jpg

Yes it's Sonic colours related, I got the idea from everybody (just about) going ape over the wisps, yet one of them looks kinda sinister to me. And just why did robotnik capture them anyway? What are they doing here? Why does that one Wisp always have the really strange look on his face? How come they have powers yet rarely use them!? Theres only one answer! They do not come in peace!
