Sonic Colours HD

Well I apologise for stating my opinion. As I said, I am sorry that Sega never originally intended for this to be in HD and I'm also sorry that I see underlying Wii hate everywhere and get sick of it. If you want to appeal to Sega about making a HD port then please do so, but don't tell me off for honestly stating my opinion.

Forums can be horrible sometimes. You try to say what you honestly think in the nicest way possible and people treat you like your flaming them. Just because I don't particularly care for a HD version of this game doesn't make my posts "wrong" or "invalid". I thought that this thread was for stating our opinions on a possible HD version after all, and just because I'm not keen and say why I logically think it either wouldn't or shouldn't happen in a constructive way I get treated like I'm a nasty troll or something.

I try SO HARD to socialise and to say stuff in a nice and decent way that people won't take as an insult but it seems like everything I say people take the wrong way. You know what, I give up.

EDIT:

tl;dr: You win. I apologise for infesting your thread and this forum with my idiotic words.

Well I apologise for stating my opinion.

Oh god, don't start that. We're just saying, you seem to interpret a person's taste in games consoles as something offensive or insulting. So what if a lot of people don't think the Wii's hardware stands up anymore? Are you happy with the Wii? Then where's the problem? In saying "Wii hate" is wrong you're doing exactly what you're complaining about and belittling people's opinions. We're sorry if you're sick of hearing our opinions but if you want to be able to express yours we are allowed to express ours as well. I really enjoyed the Wii for the 4 years or so I've had it, but I feel like I'm moving on from it now, onto HD etc. as it feels like it doesn't stand up anymore. That's my opinion on it. Is that "Wii hate", and are you sick of it? Because if you're 'sick of' our opinions, you can't then go using the opinions argument to defend yourself.

Please, just let us discuss whether or not we want Sonic Colours HD, this is a good topic and I don't want it to get locked just because a couple of people can't seem to get their head around the fact that "I want this game in HD" doesn't mean "I hate the Wii and everybody who likes the Wii sucks".

EDIT: So guys, who do we write to to let SEGA know we want this in HD?

Oh heck no.

I only have a Wii. It's time to get exclusive things for us (AND ONLY US).

Althrough I'm wanting to get an Xbox 360. Wii is still my main console. I'm in fact about to throw my PS2 to trash.

selfish - adj. - concerned chiefly or only with yourself and your advantage to the exclusion of others

I'm a Wii-only owner, but why we HAVE to have exclusives is beyond me. Having it as a Wii-only game doesn't make you or me any cooler than if it were on the other systems as well.

If this was originally planned as a game meant for all consoles the Wii version would most likely have been half assed though. :/

I want exclusive things because, I'll give yuo an example:

1. Let's say Activision make Marvel vs. Capcom X10 for PS3 and Xbox360 only

2. They decide to make it for Wii, but since the game was made for PS3 and Xbox360, they scale the game for the Wii

3. Game released

4. Xbox360 and PS3 version of the game get 10.0 out 10.0. Wii gets a 3.0 out of 10.0 since they scaled the game from a PS3 and/or Xbox360 version

Capcom... Capcom would make Marvel vs Capcom.

But that aside... What does any of that have to do with your reasoning? If anything it supports the calls for Sonic colours to get a PS360 release. The game looks great as it is, just port it onto the other systems because it looks fine. Your example there is totally non relivant to the original query.

If this was originally planned as a game meant for all consoles the Wii version would most likely have been half assed though. :/

Are people still not getting the whole point of this query yet... The people who own a 360/PS3 like the look of the game! If it were ported over in the graphical state it's in now nobody would mind because we like the look of it, it's fun and it doesn't need to be enhanced further.

The game looks great. it doesn't need much of any enhancement as it is, the problem is why it's getting a limited release like this? Especially since theres nothing about this title that can't be done on the other systems.

Honestly I just think port begging is kinda sad. I mean before when I only had a Wii and an awesome looking game was announced for the HD systems I'd go "Well that game looks good, but it's not coming to Wii. I'll guess I'll live without it or get it when I eventually get system x." Sonic Colors is Nintendo exclusive, that's how Sega wanted to go this time. Can't we just get over it? I don't mean to be a jerk but sometimes port begging sort of comes off as hissy fits.

Then again having something displayed in HD really isn't a big deal to me. Sure it looks better, but to me it just isn't that big of a deal.

I think I finally understand what Iizuka meant with this game "not being for the core fans".

This game was clearly never intended to please the most exigent part of the Sonic Fandom, I mean this game is not in HD and is being developed on the Wii, which unlike games made for the HD consoles are much more cheap to develop.

The "core fans" Iizuka was talking about, are like the ones that open these treads, the ones that want their sonic games with beautiful HD graphics to be able to enjoy them to the fullest, the ones that need this game to "reach its full potential" in a more powerful console.

The "casual" gamer usually don't care for a game being in HD as long it looks fun to play, and they already said they want to appeal to the customers on the wii that like the Mario & Sonic games, so clearly they released the game built for the Wii from the ground up. (This is the first true Sonic game specially made for the console, the Story Book series is on-rails so I don't count that as "True Sonic Gameplay" games.)

But the unexpected thing happened, with the changes they made to appeal to the "Wii Market" they actually managed to make the core fans love the game! Sega never expected this to happen because most likely they thought that one of the main things the core gamer wanted of a great 3D Sonic game was HD graphics, Colors lacked that and they clearly had no plans to make an HD version.

So what did they do?

They basically said: "Well uhh... this game is not for you core fans! we actually wanted to appeal to the new crowd, so please don't get exited for this game!"

I finally understand why they said that, thanks to this tread of course, here people say that to be able to enjoy the game to the fullest they want it to be in HD, Sega most likely thinks the same and since this game was never intended to be in HD, they pretty much said it flat out that they would not please the fans that wanted this game to be in HD.

thats the reason why I think (And only I, this is only my own crazy speculation, I'm not saying at all that this is true) this game was released in Wii and not in the HD consoles, Sega never expected the game to be so well received by the core fandom (as reflected by the polemic Iizuka comments) so now the fans can't understand why this game is not in HD.

Now about the question of this topic:

Would a HD version of Colors be nice?

-Yes, if they actually plan to make one and it can be made and it is well made, by all means make it! I mean it doesn't affect the original game at all so is not a bad thing at all.

Would a HD version of Colors be necessary?

-Nope, not at all, the game is perfect as it is, it really doesn't need to be in HD to improve it, many people have already said it, like Gnasher did a while ago, the game looks great so the HD even if it would be nice, is not a must.

Oh but I know what you're thinking, cuz there is a second topic in here that I don't know why it is in the first place.

What everyone is REALLY bitching about here is not about an HD version of Colors, but about a PS3/360 port of Colors!

And before you say it, no, is not the same! cuz people started talking of it just being ported as it is to the PS3/360 cuz it already looks good enough, so yeah, this is clearly not about HD anymore.

I will not go in deep into the PS3/360 port topic because well... is off topic!! but I will just say briefly what I think about it.

A port would be good, because well it expands the market and gives those consoles owners the chance to play the game.

However I would like this game to remain as a Nintendo exclusive for 1 reason: The 20th Anniversary Game.

That game is BOUND to be made for the HD consoles, that means the game will be built in a powerful engine that the Wii will not be able to handle.

So Wii owers will be either left with no version of the anniversary game (like what happened with Sonic 06) or get a dumbed down version of the game made specially for the Wii. (like what happened with Sonic Unleashed.)

And don't even think that the Wii will have something as polished as Colors for the anniversary game! because the main resources will be obviously focused in the HD version and the Wii version will be most likely given to a secondary team to make, so it will never be as polished as a game made with full resources like Colors is.

Either way the Wii owners will be left out with no anniversary game, so I think is fair that the Wii owners have Colors as exclusive while the HD consoles owners have the Anniversary game as their own exclusive.

It sounds fair to me, I dunno about you...

Anyway, those are my 2 cents in the whole topic about an HD version (and a little about a PS360 port) I hope that was not confusing or boring to read.

Also I'd like to apologize for my terrible English, I'm not a native speaker so I hope you can forgive my terrible grammar an overall way to write.

you finally did what?

iizuka explained what he said : that this game is trying to attract more people to the franchaise by being for the younger audience and the fan base..

So that : Classic fans are happy - Newer Fans are happy.

it has no thing to do with the capability of consoles..

Honestly I just think port begging is kinda sad.

There's no begging. I re-iterate once again, the thread is "DO YOU GUYS THING IT'D BE NICE IF WE COULD GET IT IN HD?", nothing any more mopey than that. The only sad thing in here seems to be from Wii owners who seem to want everything for themselves. It's no different to asking for a great movie to come out on Blu-Ray.

And whose fault is that, that there's not enough power in the Wii? Is it Activision's fault that they have to scale it down? I don't get it. You guys get mad that you don't get a tonne of games, and hold desperately on to the exclusives you do have, then get made when stuff has to be downscaled to go on it, and it's always the game developers' fault, not the fault of the system using 2001 hardware requiring the games to be downscaled this way.

And before you say it, no, is not the same! cuz people started talking of it just being ported as it is to the PS3/360 cuz it already looks good enough, so yeah, this is clearly not about HD anymore.

Really good post you made, for the most part, and it helped me get over the fact that the game's limited to the Wii actually, but I think you misunderstand what we're asking for - we're not asking for it to go on PS3 and 360 just because we want it on those consoles (though it'd be nice if everybody could enjoy Colours, I agree, the 20th anniversary game is coming and that's going to be something special), what we mean when we say HD is literally just that - high definition. The game's textures, models etc. all look great as they are, but we'd like to see them shown in a higher resolution on our big HDTVs like the PS3 and 360 can do, because on a large HDTV, Wii games get a fuzzy/blurry pixellated effect which blots out most of the detail and gives everything strange jagged pixel edges called "aliasing". All we're asking for really is to be able to play the game in high definition, just like watching a 70s movie on Blu-Ray - we're not asking for updated effects and stuff, just a sharper picture.

I only have a Wii. It's time to get exclusive things for us (AND ONLY US).

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2

New Super Mario Brothers Wii

Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

MadWorld

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle

Punch Out Wii

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Wario Land: The Shake Dimension

Sonic and the Secret Rings

Sonic and The Black Knight

The House of the Dead: Overkill

The Conduit

Metroid: Other M

all of those are Exclusive things for Wii owners (AND ONLY WII OWNERS).

Thou Furious, Comrade?

I did, why?

Because if you didn't notice it by Now; Not everyone has a Money tree in their Backyards, or an Interest in the Wii and it's Libary of Games (and Buying a Console for only One games is not a good Idea)

as for the Topic at Hand:

"DO YOU GUYS THING IT'D BE NICE IF WE COULD GET IT IN HD?"

Sure, Why not?

I am not a HDTV owner myself, but It certanly looks nice.

There is also the Fact that, If Sonic Colors Gets Ported as it shapes Up to be, then it would Play the same on all 3 Consoles (minus Kinect, but Hey: Controller Option) with the Only difference being that one Port Doesn't have HD, and everyone would be Happy, No?

i would rather see it on HD Consoles to be honest just for HD, but its sonic team's time to show the Wii abilities graphic wise.

they did a pretty impressive job on the game graphical wise, let all that hard job stay on the wii.

and plus Sonic team needs to make it up for Sonic Unleashed Wii Flaws and lack of interest during its development

One thing worth considering is that as of Sonic Colours, there's an excellent clone of the Sonic Unleashed HD engine on Wii now, which the Wii versions of future HD Sonic games can utilise, so if the next big HD game has to do things Unleashed style and outsource a Wii version, even if they need to do different levels due to the HD version's levels requiring major system power like Unleashed, they'd have a really good engine which would make it look and play very similar.

i think it really shouldn't be ported. a new whole game would be amazing, using the hedgehog engine and pushing the XBOX360 and PS3 to their limits.

Now i know the Wii couldn't reach the visual quality of Sonic Unleashed PS3 and XBOX360 or both systems in general

how ever it would be fun to see the Wii's graphical show case with this title.

i my self as a non HD console owner want to See PS3 and XBOX360 Colorful sonic game,

because really, is their ANY colorful game on the XBOX360/PS3? Not saying those consoles are bad, they have amazing exclusives, but those are just based on Humans even in RPG

would love to see a fantastic platformer with the Most colorful graphics ever on HD Consoles

in the mean time , it would be fun to look how much sonic team pushed the wii to its limits.

porting from wii to 360 or ps3 would make fun of both consoles, they are not appropriate

when they focus on 1 console they can push it to its very limits. in not in a bad way, the Wii graphics would look amazing just look at colors but no offense to wii owners (including m self), porting it to 360 and PS3 is a waste of effort, i would like to see the wii pushed to its limits, but i would like to see 360 and PS3 Get some Colorfully amazing game as well ^^

Anybody up for writing a letter about it or anything?

Also I don't think it's that bad that Wii owners are happy to have a good looking third party exclusive every now and then. It doesn't happen often while the HD twins get tons of awesome 3rd party content the Wii doesn't. I have a PS3 and Wii while my little brother has a 360 so I'm covered when a game I want comes out on just about anything. Like I said, I think it's nice that the Wii gets an actual high quality 3rd party effort every now and then though.

OK.

Would I buy a HD version of Colours?

Yes. I may skip the Wii version and get it instead. People who only own Wii's will buy the Wii version, and people who want to, will buy the HD version.

Plus the Wii owners won't be pissed because they got the Gimp'd version since it was originally designed for the Wii.

HD owners will merely be thankful that they actually got this generations best Sonic game on their console (perhaps with enhanced texture and polygons and lighting effects)

Would I be dissappointed if there wasn't a HD port?

No, because it wouldn't make much of a difference, I'd just by the Wii version....

To Wii owners who want to keep Colours Wii exclusive for fear of the Wii version being rated poorly because of its HD bretheren, can shut up, because if anything, the reveiws of the HD version will say shit like;

"Its a great game, but its a shame it was so lasily ported with little effort put into improving textures, polygons and lighting effects 6.5/10"

There is nothing wrong with a port.

Is it necessary? No, but is it a bad thing if it happens? No.

At the end of the day though....I'd rather just get the [cheaper] Wii version, because I want to see a HD Sonic game, that pushes the PS3 and the 360 to their limits. Now wouldn't that be a fantastic looking thing right?

Personally I think that instead of porting Sonic Colours to the HD consoles, they should actually create a new version of the game from the ground up to suit the HD consoles. Ports usually tend to be worse/lacking compared to the original version. Maybe in a year or two they should make a new Sonic Colours for the HD consoles with different level design (same zones), better visuals (obviously), more levels, achievements (obviously) and possibly a hub world (that doesn't get in the way of the main story) that gives access to additional missions.

I'd kill for this game on the HD consoles. Mainly because I don't have a Wii and I have no intention of getting one for one game. But I am being a good sport about it and I'll just buy my time. I honestly don't see why it shouldn't be on them since it would be amazing.

Nice to hear somebody else thinks so.

With PlayStation move out Sonic Colours is pretty much the one thing keeping me from being able to focus on just one games console (my PS3) which also does blu-ray etc. and have everything all condensed into one neat entertainment package, rather than two of them cluttering up my TV with cables and things. Sure I still love Metroid Prime and stuff but the Wii could be moved into a cupboard or something and pulled out when I felt like going through those again. The PS3 has like everything going for it at the moment, and when Sonic Adventure and Sonic 4 have come to it (and Free Riders to the 360 as well) it seems a shame that the big major Sonic, and the truly brilliant one we've all been waiting for, isn't coming to either.
