Silly question

Yeah I feel a bit silly asking a question like this. But I was wondering this.

Do you think Sonic and the others wear socks?

...That white puffy part looks as if they are socks, and almost all characters have something like them, but they also seem that they could be part of the shoes, especially if you look at the Soaps that Sonic wears in Sonic Adventure 2.

So...yeah. Socks or part of the shoes, what do you think?

I think they might be part of the shoe. If you look at this image of a cameo appearence Sonic made in Donkey Kong Country, you see that the "sock" part is still there:

Though, I tend to assume it's just socks. I mean, why would they not wear socks?

And that DKC2 image is neat, I never noticed that in my 13 years of owning that game.

Definitely socks, at least in Sonic's case. With some of the other characters it's hard to tell, tho'.

It was made when RARE was owned by Nintendo, and I think they just didn't like EWJ.

Well Sonic's shoes are capable of withstanding tremendous amounts of friction, so I guess it's able to stay pretty cool in his feet. Or maybe he's got AC at the bottom of the shoes.......Now that'd kick ass.

They've always been socks to me. I've never seen a shoe with an uncomfortable looking, floppy, white part on it before.

Hmm, I've always seem them as socks, m'self, but looking at them, they may be shoe-cuffs...

Sonic's, Tails', Cream's, and Storm's kinda look like they're made from the same, or at least similar material to their gloves in rendered art, which would lead me to believe that they're socks.

Amy's kind of look like they might be the same material as her shoes, but I'm not sure... They could either be stocking-like socks, or part of her boots.

Knuckles' definitely look plastic or another harder material, so I think they're cuffs of his shoes... though green socks would be cute

Rouge's look smooth and shiny, like the material of her heart-thing, so... I think they might be part of her boots... There's also the fact that she wears them over her jumpsuit-like-thing, which wouldn't make much sense if they were socks...

Shadow's look like the area of trainers where the "tongue" is... but I'd think that his shoes are made from a harder material, so I'm not sure about that...

Silver has no visible socks as far as I can see, though he may be wearing some under his boots... Unless weird hard-material things are sock-cuffs in the future...

Blaze I'd think may be the shoe-lining... Wouldn't it be uncomfortable to wear socks that fuzzy? Though it may just be the cuff part that's lined with fuzz, like her gloves (which may be the sleeve of her jacket, but in M&SatOG she still had fuzzy glove-cuffs). Then there's the fact that that white thing she wears may be tights...

Jet's are shaped differently, so that could either be socks or part of his boots... Not sure on him.

Marine, I'd assume would have similar texture to her gloves... But they're very rounded, so I'm not sure...

Charmy's black things look solid rather than material, so...

Espio's look odd, and look too hard to be socks... He may have bandage-wrapped feet instead, though that may be part of those cuff things...

Vector's definitely look like the cuffs of his shoes, and... no one else has visible socks unless I'm missing someone (Tikal and Big wear sandals with no socks, Wave you can't tell because of her trousers...)

I'm not sure how accurate I am, but I hope that helped some...

...You know what I've always wondered? This may seem like a weird, half-unrelated question, but... How do most of the female characters get their clothes on and off? The clothes seem form-fitting to the characters' neck/chest in the case of tube-tops (Wave and Marine)... but their heads are much bigger than their bodies; how on Earth do they fit...?

Yes they do wear socks, the white part of Sonic's shoe is the sock, it's just folded up at the top which is why it's always show as being creased. Even Shadow has black socks, the red part appears to attached to the gold ring. The only character I'm unsure of is Knuckles, the green part of his seems to be shown as solid, whether he wears socks underneath that or not is unknown.

I think they're sweat socks, which tend to fold/wrinkle down. Sonic would get really sweaty feet from all that running around.

The references were made as Earthworm Jim and Sonic were both very popular video game characters at that time. It wasn't because they disliked them.

I always had the impression from when I was a young Sonic game player that they were a part of the shoe. Maybe because the Speed-up monitor shows the shoe with the baggy white part on it and the fact that what you can see of the very bottom of Sonic's legs do not fit entirely snugly into the socks like you'd expect them to if they were socks. He doesn't seem to wear socks with SOAP shoes or the ones he wears in the Rider's series. Unless they are of the sport sock type and therefore aren't exactly visible.

They could just be very baggy socks though. Nevertheless, as I said, my personal interpretation is that they are part of the shoe.

Sonic could have socks made into his shoes so when he takes off his shoe the socks comes off also!

If you look at his gloves, you can see the same white puffy ring around his wrists. I'll bet that they're made of the same material (cotton?), which is a different material from his red shoes. So I scientifically deduce that yes, he's wearing socks.

Now, lets figure out what's up with Knuckles's shoes.
