Peeps and peepets, if I can get your attention for one moment. I'll be firing up both a Creative and Survival server possibly within the next week. It'll at first run at certain hours, but will hopefully eventually run at all times. Now, I've not set up a perfect system of protection of any creation, so what I'd like to ask if y'all can post or PM your Minecraft user name so that I can add you to the white-list. This'll disallow any grievers from entering. I'll also set up a back-up system just in case anything big goes down. This is for SSMB members only, as I'll still need to learn my way around some server tools before I can essentially become Big Brother, and make sure nothing wrong can possibly go wrong. ;]

Be sure to check back for details. I'll perhaps make banners with all the info, and in time I'll put up the info so y'all can get in. Spread the word~!

It's been done.

A group of Minecraft creators came together and made a life-size version of Earth, including big cities, monuments, rivers, caves, plants, and terrain. It is all scaled correctly (with the biggest thing being Mount Everest at 121 block high), and can be downloaded here:

It is very large (both in map size and in download size) but worth checking if you can. Download hosts might be a bit busy though.

1.6 has got me addicted to Minecraft again after I took a break and wiped all my worlds. Starting out fresh can be just as fun as having a well established base. Anyone else think the official grass looks worse than the old grass mod?

Well, now that I've had time to test it on the SSMB server, I figure I might as well let loose some screenshots of a Sonic texturepack I've been working on lately. Spoiler'd for high res screens.

Obligatory Green Hill dirt and grass. It's biome compliant, which kinda spoils some of the colour radiance of the original - I'm still trying to figure out how to change the biome colours.

Standard tree is the Angel Island palmtrees. I used the bushes from Emerald Hill as leaves because it was easier, but it might change later. You can see the Icecap trees I used in place of the redwoods, but again, because of biome faggotry I can't get them the right colour on the leaves (they're usually white).

Here's my smoothstone replacement - purple rocks. Watch out, they might... umm, mildly inconvenience you!

Here's some sand taken straight from Sandopolis. Also, a pickaxe made from the aformentioned stone.

Sandstone. I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out.

Mushrooms. Take a wild fuckin' guess where they're from. Most of my plant life is fucking huge so far because Sonic tilesets are usually double the size of Minecraft's default, and this only barely fit 16x16.

Roses, ala Emerald Hill I believe.

Green Hill sunflowers. I had to shrink these to fit, so they look kinda shit.

Snow and ice, both from Casino Night. Took me a while to figure out how to make the ice transparent without poking holes in it - and it still looks kinda crap.

Well, now that I've had time to test it on the SSMB server, I figure I might as well let loose some screenshots of a Sonic texturepack I've been working on lately. Spoiler'd for high res screens.

Main reason I'm posting about this is that I run out of ideas for replacements pretty quick, and could use some feedback. If you have a good idea of what sure go where, or even provide a tile for it yourself, I'd appreciate it. Here's what I got so far.

- Everything dirt and grass related, sans farmland and tallgrass.

- Smoothstone, cobble and slabs.

- Everything sand related.

- Iron, Gold, Diamond and Lapis blocks (NOT ores - I used Metropolis Zone metal for the former two and the Sonic 1 Special Stage for the latter)

- Default and Redwood trees (Was gonna make Birch into giant Mushroom Hill mushrooms, but yet again, fucking biome colours.

- Mushrooms and Flowers.

- TNT (it's an Eggman monitor, muahaha).

- Glass

- Sponge (I used the floating cork from Labyrinth Zone - I doubt I'll ever find anything better)

- Bricks (placeholder - if there's any better than Mystic Cave, I'd love to hear it)

- Everything cold related.

- Stone and Iron tools, and Iron Armour (lattermost one is a placeholder because I fucking suck at recolouring armour textures)

What I really, really need help for:

- Gravel, gravel, fucking GRAVEL.

- Mossy cobble (recoloured the rocks from Angel Island in standard cobble - I kinda lack the talent to draw decent looking vines on them from scratch).

- Planks, and virtually everything else wood related.

- Furnaces and dispensers (whyyyyy is it so fucking hard to recolour them in Paint.Net aagggh- um, I mean, an original idea for them would be nice.)

- Everything Nether related, and pumpkins.

- Cactus (using anything with spikes bigger than 1-2 pixel lengths is kind of a problem)

- Bedrock.

The HD patcher is pretty prolific now, so you may want to consider upping the resolution to 32x32 if 16x16 is proving to be too constricting.

Also, when it comes to Minecraft ice, it looks better as a solid colour rather than a detailed texture.

So far this is looking really nice, but it needs a bit of tweaking; some of the textures clash badly with each other. It might be easy to fix but I'm not taking a thorough look at it right now (tired ).

To change grass colours, you will need to alter the grasscolor.png file. I don't yet know the specifics, but be careful when changing it to avoid wacky grass.

Minecraft seems to pretty buggy at the moment (especially in SMP) so I'm gonna wait until the fixes have been implemented before I go back online.
