Idea: ADULTS ONLY Forum? (NO PR0N)

That's my idea.

I don't think I'm racist or hateful.. but I don't know, I love like all the SSMB members.. but some reason I greatly dislike 80 percent of every person between the ages of 7-18. [this might be from 12 year olds thinking their hot stuff on xbox live then their moms beating up on them or them getting handed a frag nade in CoD.]

[note: I'm not pedo.. but i like some kids that aren't whinny brats lol]

So thats my idea.. why not? Adults ONLY topic, age locked and no/few censors. [NO PORN..srsly]

I love how TSS has topics to make people of all ages to be happy, but a good bit of us are adults, so why not make us a forum?

It would pretty much be a Adult version of chit-chat forum--but with a a little flair. If the idea is accepted adults can decide what to add to make it special and make it more adult friendly lolol.

and as I said since most adults are pretty mature by nature I'm sure the topic wouldn't have to be looked after too much by mods--cause the 'cool kids' aka adults would hang there ;D

On other forums I'm a member we have a "Mature" forum where people can discuss more personal issues that might not be appropriate for younger members, such as things to do with sex etc. It means no one is exposed to anything innappropriate but also that if you don't want to see anything like that, you can just avoid one area of the forum. You also ask to be allowed access to that area.

I dunno if it's needed here though seeing as we never have any topics that are particularly adult. Or maybe people don't post them because we don't have an area for them.

But as for suggesting an area just for those over a certain age I think it might be a little unfair. We have younger members here you are pretty mature and we have older members who are pretty immature.

What exactly are you suggesting could be posted in this "Adult forum" that couldn't be posted anywhere else on the forum?

The huge letters weren't necessary. Mods can (and do) read small print - it's kind of their job to read posts. Also, the topic will be locked if it gets silly, which it may well do.

How sad for you, hating 80% of under 18s. You might not want to hang out on a forum that's very likely to attract large numbers of these people in future. As an aside, the age of consent is 16 in the UK, so 16 - 18 year olds are perfectly within their rights to discuss 'mature' topics. However, we do have a rule against explicit and gratuitous topics about sex and that is unlikely to change.

Additionally, users below the age of 13 are not permitted to sign up here (and if they do lie, we usually catch them out).

Many reasons, but mostly because it's completely unnecessary. We will not be reversing the rule about explicit sex topics, suicide, shock topics etc, and anything else can be freely discussed as is. We trust that anyone posting here is grown up enough to handle mature topics as long as they are within the rules.

This is a Sonic the Hedgehog forum. People come here to discuss Sonic, and while it's great that we talk about a bunch of other stuff too, this IS a family friendly fandom and our forum is, too. We don't like excluding people. If you really need a place to talk about 'adult' things, you should probably look for a more specific adult-oriented site.

In fact they have every right to comment as this would effectively bar them from a part of the forums and they'd be perfectly entitled to raise objections. You're not the first person to suggest an adult area, and the idea was very quickly shot down the last time it was raised too.

Pff. Some of the most immature people I've seen online are technically 'adults'. Given free range to post whatever the hell they like, you will ALWAYS get people who go too far or test the limits. If anything, it would require much closer scrutiny and moderation. Not practical at all.

Unnecessary. Kids and adults both already have the whole of SSMB to peruse. Individual forum areas is just a daft and impractical idea.

Also, I see you have only 20 posts. Try participating a little more to get a feel for the forums before offering up suggestions, and you may find your ideas better received because they are likely to be more appropriate to this forum.

I have nothing against teens or preteens but some people dont like talking about pokemon or sonic all the time with younger people--no offense intended to anyone. I suggest we Adults--maybe even younger members if they are upset by their young age can post things that are within the rules of SSMB but might seem not suited for young members.

Pretty much a forum being 'Come in and read at your own risk' kind of thing. People should have the choice, and if people want SSMB to stay family friendly I think they should make a forum for these things to keep the older members happy..unless everyone doesn't mind facebook too much.

If you don't wanna talk about Sonic all the time, either go to the Chit Chat forum as that's where it's made for, or just go to another site.

Well did you go through the members and see which ones were under 18? Some of the coolest people here would be locked out from the adult forum. The personal section had some pretty mature topics, except sex talk is now banned. It was becoming a sex forum anyways. I dunno about splitting the forum down an age line, basically.

I had some of my best memories here..when i myself use to be a young immature teen, I was blessed to have such wonderful mods and staff like Hogfather, Roareye Black, T-Bird and Dreadknux to make a kid feel welcome. And I still love all the mods and most of the people here. It was fun people.

No-one in this whole topic, including myself (I'm 25 btw), has said you're not welcome or tried to make you feel unwelcome. We're all for people suggesting new ideas, which is why we have this Member Feedback sub-forum. Our SSMB staffer Flyboy Fox has just explained why we don't have the kind of sub-forum you're suggesting, but just because the idea isn't being implemented, that doesn't mean you're not welcome. We still have and support mature discussion here, heck the Personal Discussion sub-forum is full of it.

We have had similar suggestions before, and for the moment it seems that the administrators are happy with the SSMB sections and subsections. Other than that, what needed be said has already been posted by others (especially Flyboy Fox).

The biggest reason for me to make a reply, despite a topic lock being in place, was to emphasis the fact that you are by all means welcome here. Stop telling yourself that you are not. I see that you may have had some awkward feedback due to describing feelings toward younger members, and you even admitted to having expressed yourself in a strange way. We all (urr, most of us at least?) regret being silly at various points, do we not? It is only natural, yush. Worry not, halofumaster. Just promise to cut down on that, we are all a big happy family here. x3
