What stages do you want to see in Sonic Generations?

I have no choice but to side with the way of the Nilsen, in part because I always have a raging boner for his music, but also because I just can't listen to the Japanese soundtrack anymore like I used to, apart from assorted songs. It's full of decent music on its own but horribly unfitting for the majority of the game's levels, as it sounds incredibly outlandish even for a Sonic game, being filled with inane, quirky pop with little sense of direction. It's too fucking distracting.

Really, the only overwhelming advantage the Hataya soundtrack has is the past version of Wacky Workbench, which... is in the American version of the game as well so I don't feel like the game really lost anything that mattered.

Oh, right. So anyway, if Generations doesn't have a single piece of music from US Sonic CD, I'll declare this game to be under influence of Satan forever. Not even Sonic's black eyes would be able to exorcise it of this terrible sin.

While I grew up with the Japanese/European music, Collision Chaos American was awesome IMO. O.O

Eggmanland HD was a pain in the ass. IF there is Eggmanland they redesign it anyways I gues. But actually you are right.

Just "Eggmanland" then. Without any version. :P

I agree with you about Eggmanland HD being a pain in the ass...I still haven't even completed the hot dog missions for this level, and I've had the game for 3 YEARS!!!

I think we've been over this before guys. If there was a Sonic CD level they could:

A: Homage both tracks for once. They're at least going to have one act for Classic Sonic, and one act for Modern Sonic, if not more. One could have one tune while the other Sonic has the other.

B: They could remix the tracks together like so, which would be effing awesome.

Yes, that needs to happen.

A mix of both would be cool, but hard to do with some of the tracks... like Quartz Quadrant and Stardust Speedway.

I wonder how many levels they'll be able to fit in. In the past 2 360-PS3 main series games, they could fit in about 10 individual level environments. Do you think that because the hub worlds will either be seriously gimped or non-existent, and the fact that there aren't any other playable characters we'll have room to add in about 12-13 levels?

What if we're getting 10 levels? 3 from each era and an obligatory "Final Zone?" What zones would you decide on those restrictions? Considering this, we'd probably get one zone per game represented. How would this work out?

I've already posted a list with 4 for each era, but if we think about it, we may only get 3 per era. So here's my "3-per-era list," with the 3 most likely zones to appear from each game. Italicized is the one I'd most likely pick of said 3, and why.

---Classic---

Sonic 1:

Green Hill. A-dur.

(But the other 2 would have been nice, as well):

Starlight Zone

Marble Zone

Sonic 2:

The 3 most likely contenders will be...

Casino Night

Chemical Plant

Metropolis

...Casino Night, because it's the first true "Casino" level, a big fan favorite and fills in the gap for a bouncy-sparkling Zone.

Sonic 3:

The 3 most likely contenders will be...

Ice Cap

Hydrocity

Angel Island

...Ice Cap, because it's friggin Ice Cap. The ice levels are very popular to begin with, and it's a massive fan favorite. Also, dat music.

I'm saving Sonic & Knuckles for the 10th final zone. I'll get back to it after the rest...

---Adventure---

Sonic Adventure:

The 3 most likely contenders will be...

Emerald Coast

Speed Highway

Twinkle Park

...Emerald Coast, because there's a huge amount of nostalgia value for this level. It can be designed to be unique enough from Green Hill (perhaps some underwater sections?) to be it's own thing. It's Sonic's first grand step in a 3D adventure, and is unforgettable for that.

Sonic Adventure 2:

The 3 most likely contenders will be...

City Escape

Green Forest

Final Chase

...City Escape, because it fits the city level trope, it has one of the most loved songs in the series, and is a fan favorite.

Sonic Heroes:

The 3 most likely contenders will be...

Egg Fleet

Grand Metropolis

Hang Castle

...Egg Fleet, because it's the obligatory air base level. It was featured in the opening of Heroes, so it's a level that everyone got to see at some point. Not to be confused with Final Fortress. It's also one of the cooler looking zones in the game.

---Modern---

Sonic 2006: (yeah, I said it)

The 3 most likely contenders will be...

Kingdom Valley

Crisis City

Aquatic Base

...Kingdom Valley, because it was the first level we ever saw, and fits the ancient ruin category. Of all the zones in the game, this one probably stood out the most. The rest were "generic 'insert trope here' zone." Crisis City is a city level to begin with, and I don't think the E rating would stay with burning city and demons everywhere.

Sonic Unleashed:

The 3 most likely contenders will be...

Eggmanland

Rooftop Run

(any of the others, really)

...Eggmanland, because it's the only level in the game that looks and feels like a Sonic level (when you aren't running through it, anyway.) It can make for a good sub-final level, and it'd be nice to go through Eggmanland without fearing death at every second or turning into a werehog. Besides, we need an "Eggman Base" level. (It'd also be funny to see Classic Sonic and Classic Robotnik look at this level and see their complete oppositely-emoting faces)

Sonic Colors:

This one is a toughie, because at least 3 levels are fan favorites and would fit in equally as well... but none are a part of Sonic's world!

Planet Wisp is probably the best choice if you want to please the fans, but we kind of have a foresty level. And besides, Planet Wisp isn't in Sonic's world.

Starlight Carnival is the second fan favorite, but also isn't a part of Sonic's world. We kind of have a "sparkling" zone already as it is.

Aquarium Park is probably the third most popular, but like the previous two, is not part of Sonic's world, either. It would be a great choice, in my opinion, because it's one of the best water levels in recent memory.

I'd pick Planet Wisp, since it's the biggest fan favorite, but I'd kind of like Aquarium Park to make it in, too. Either would make me happy, really.

---Final Zone---

Sonic & Knuckles:

Death Egg Zone.

...is there really a better choice than this? It's been Dr. Eggman's magnum opus (beside's Eggmanland, but we already have that) throughout the entire series since Sonic 2. It's appeared in a lot of the games since, and is a big fan favorite, too. It's the obligatory space-death-trap level of choice, and I'm sure is welcome to appear by all fans.

Well, those are my "10-zone-limit" picks. What are yours?

10 Zone limit ey? Well okay.

Classic Trio:

Sonic 1: Green Hill Zone (Confirmed)

Sonic 2: Chemical Plant Zone (Personal pick, and most likely.)

Sonic 3K: Ice Cap (Personal pick, and most likely.)

Middle Trio:

Adventure: Emerald Coast (Or heads will roll. and most likely.)

Adventure 2: City Escape (Most likely, personal pick is between it and Metal Harbor.)

Heroes: Egg Fleet (Not sure if most likely, but it's the only stage in Heroes that I can stand.)

Modern Trio:

Sonic 06: Crisis City (Not sure if most likely, personal pick because it represent the theme of the game.)

Unleashed: Rooftop Run (Most likely, I think Eggmanland would ruin the ending stage. Personal pick is between it and Windmill Island)

Colours: Planet Wisp (Most likely. Personally I'd go with Tropical Resort or Sweet Mountain.)

Final Stage:

Generations: Big ass stage that mixes the style of both Death Eggs, Scrap Brain Zone, Eggmanland and Final Rush. It will be called Epic Zone.

I can get behind that!

Oh, one thing I considered for the final stage...

What if it was the Special Stage? Just a huge zone that alludes to every Special Stage in the main games? The plot is about time rifts, and since the space-time continuum is being messed with, and the Chaos Emeralds will somehow be connected, I'm certain that the Special Stage will be some sort of "proto-dimension" where everything connects together... if the Special Stage is destroyed, then the entire universe will be! Therefore, get to the center of the zone and defeat the villain once and for all, before time runs out! It'd be a major nostalgia-trip to see every Special Stage represented in one huge connecting world, with epic music playing in the background.

That may be stretching it a bit though, but mmmmaaaaannnnn would that be way past cool.

We don't know if the Chaos Emeralds will be connected, Colours didn't have them and these are the same writers.

That's true, actually. But like I said, time rifts. The Chaos Emeralds can be used to go through time, so I think they'll be featured somehow. We'll just have to wait and see.

I think what he's saying is that they handled Green Hill Zone so well, that it won't matter to him what gets featured, since it'll blow our minds either way.

I concur, but it's still fun to speculate and give our reasons. :)

That being said, I can think of a reason for Planet Wisp to be featured in the storyline:

the time rifts aren't only affecting Sonic's world, but the entire universe. This means that Planet Wisp is also in danger! The other planets in Sonic Colors were Eggman-created and lifeless, so the only level worth restoring is Planet Wisp.

...though that leaves the little issue with Sonic restoring levels like Egg Fleet, Eggmanland and Death Egg, since they belong to a villain. I suppose restoring the area, regardless of it's intrinsic worth, it necessary to save the universe.

For the water level absence in my list, I'd be okay with them adding some water sections in zones like Emerald Coast and Ice Cap. (moreso the former than the latter) It would solve the two problems of Emerald Coast being similar to Green Hill and there not being a water level.

Uh...you mean Aquarium Park, right? Aquatic Base is in Sonic 06.

I hinted at this idea in an earlier post, but how do you guys feel about combining level environments? Like maybe you start at Emerald Coast, running past beaches and resorts, into the actual Station Square hub and past into the Speed Highway area. Instead of just a single level you get the whole game environment in one section. Levels like Adabat and Eggmanland already feature varying tropes in one level. Running from point A to point B could literally take you to different places. Lava Reef to Hidden Palace to Sky Sanctuary. Areas that were connected to each other in previous games. Iizuka already said he wants new areas in each revisited zone. I also wish they'd include a subway chase in whatever city level they choose.

They should do this as an epic DLC hard mode, as in, every single level in the game connected from start to finish. With the mission header being: "Are you a bad enough hog to finish this?"

That would be the BIGGEST DLC EVA (in terms of size), but that would be AWESOME!
