What stages do you want to see in Sonic Generations?

I've somewhat revised my list from earlier in the topic

Classic Era

Sonic the Hedgehog: Green Hill Zone (Confirmed)

Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Chemical Plant. I feel like Modern Sonic could do some really awesome things with this stage. Lots of potential for huge branching pathways. This is the level I'd be most disappointed to see get ignored and not make it into Generations.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Carnival Night Zone

Sonic and Knuckles: Lava Reef Zone

Dreamcast Era

Sonic Adventure: Ice Cap. Really isn't my favorite SA stage, but I couldn't decide between Ice Cap Zone or Carnival Night Zone in S3 so I cheated here

Sonic Adventure 2: City Escape. Basically confirmed. If it isn't in the game, expect fan rage.

Modern Era

Sonic Heroes: Egg Fleet. It's really one of the few stages from Heroes I wouldn't mind seeing again, especially if there was some Starlight Carnival influence.

Sonic the Hedgehog '06: Radical Train.

Sonic Unleashed: Windmill Island (or Adabat if there was a particular focus on the ruins aspect)

Sonic Colors: Planet Wisp. Really defines Sonic Colors and could be awesome in HD. However, Generations needs a water level, so I don't count out Aquarium Park.

Final Zone: Something drawing inspiration from final zones across the eras.

Watch Sega troll us and give us Mystic Cave zone.

I never liked mystic cave zone.

You don't like Mystic Cave Zone? For shame, sir...for shame.

I'd settle for Mystic Cave Zone, although I'd prefer Chemical Plant. Anything beats...Casino Night...egghhh

What I think would be cool would be a level based on removed or cancelled aspects from past Sonic games. Sort of like a level that glitches and shifts as you progress to different levels that were unused.

Bah. I don't expect to see it, since... y'know, Chemical Plant... but it's probably my favourite zone in Sonic 2. Underground zones have always been pretty uncommon, and they're especially rare these days. The cave section in GHZ looks amazing, but it'd be really cool to see a full level's worth of hole in the ground in 3D with all them polygons and HDs and pixel shaders and Hedgehog Engines and stuff.

Besides, what tribute to Sonic's past would be complete without the Mystic Cave Troll Hole? There's a whole generation of gamers who have never experienced the agony of waiting ages for their rings to run out before they can die. That shit builds character.

If this game has Sandopolis I think I might actually not buy the game, but then again, I'm in a terrible anti-Sandopolis mood at the moment.

Mystic Cave Zone is awesome and we need a remix of the song.

I dunno. We've not had a proper desert level for a while now. The last one was back in '06, and that was only fun in the multiplayer VS mode. Flinging Shadow around had never been so enjoyable!

Still, could be good to shoot through that haunted old tomb as Modern Sonic, don't you think?

No, I do not think this.

I will however be all for a remake of Dusty Desert from Sonic 06, it was a decent stage apart from the forced quicksand stuff. But no Sandopolis.

Edit:

I apologize, I sound like an asshole. Let me just put it like this, I've had a good amount of Time Over and Game Overs during these last days on that very Zone, it annoys me. >.<

...And you don't think that Modern Sonic, what with his Boost, Homing Attack, and so forth, could finish the level slightly faster than his pudgy, black eyed counterpart? Besides, Time Overs don't exist anymore, so that's not really a problem, is it?

Oh no, I'm sure the stage would be different in those aspects. But I'm just really angry with the stage right now. Which I why I feel any other Desert stage would do. Also, ghosts are annoying.

I've never really cared for desert stages as a whole; I find them somewhat bland. I'm not going to complain if there is one in the game, but I certainly won't complain if there's not, either.

I really do want to see Hidden Palace, though. Emerald Hill would also be sweet if only for the sake of music, since that's probably one of my favorite classic soundtracks. Considering how similar it is to Green Hill, though, it probably won't make it. Ah well.

I keep wondering how they're going to pull off 3D stages in 2D environments. There's certainly a lot of focus on the other way around, since we've already seen that with Green Hill Zone. But how will they convert 3D to 2D? It seems like there's a lot that could go wrong. What about City Escape's truck chase? What about grind rails? Will classic Sonic be able to grind in levels like City Escape and Final Rush (etc.), or would they remove that part from the 2D version of those types of levels since grinding was not a staple of classic Sonic's gameplay?

Well, Sonic 1's Green Hill didn't have grind rails, but Modern Sonic's version in Generations has loads. I'm certain that means that rail grinding will be exclusive to Modern Sonic, even if it's prominent in certain stages and even though it has been done in 2D before. I assume that'll apply to any mechanic of that sort.

As for the truck chase... well, it'd be a little redundant to include it twice, so if it appears at all it'll probably just be in one of Modern Sonic's acts. I am very curious about what Classic Sonic's version of that stage (including the music) could possibly be like, but maybe it'll go the cave-in-Green-Hill route and show us a very different part of the city.

It doesn't matter where the stages come from. Basically they're just taking the theme and obstacles and sticking them in a whole new map. There's not going to be anything strange about making 3D stages 2D because they're all new layouts.

The 3D to 2D aspect of the game is interesting, but it certainly isn’t a trope that Sonic Team hasn’t covered before.

Sonic Colors DS featured every stage from its 3D big brother, and did a fine job of it. Asteroid Coaster felt like Asteroid Coaster despite being limited to the second dimension. Even without the flashy light bridge running, Starlight Carnival felt like a brightly lit, neon party in space. Sweet Mountian DS included its own gimmicks (gelatin) but it still evoked the same feelings as the 3D equivalent.

Some of the 3D elements may not transfer over to 2D at a 1 to 1 ratio (roller coaster comes to mind) but Sonic Team has been fairly successful in past attempts at rendering 3D environments into 2D. I feel pretty confident in the squad from an aesthetics point of view.

As for how classic Sonic will play in some of these new stages.... beats me. Final Rush without grind rails isn't exactly Final Rush.

The zones I'd like to see.

Sonic adventure (DX) - Either Red mountain or Lost world.

Sonic adventure 2 (Battle) - City escape definitely) and Final rush/Final chase.

ce2i.th.jpg30541033.th.jpg

Sonic Heroes - Egg fleet or Hang castle

heroesghosts.th.pngsheggfleet.th.png

Sonic Unleashed - Adabat. It's breathtaking.

Sonic the hedgehog 2006 - Crisis city or Kingdom valley.

Crisis city is just awesome and Kingdom valley is beautiful.

I know Sonic 4:Ep1 was out just recently, but I'd LOVE to see this shit - Lost labyrinth. Screw everything on the screens. Look at the scenery. Best-looking cave-themed level IMO.

sonic4lostlabyrinthtrai.th.jpgsonic4lostlabyrinthtrai.th.jpg

I don't really care about Sonic colors, because I've had enough of it already)), but if they decided to include some levels from the game, it'd be nice to see Planet wisp(but only like in the CG scenes or in the beginning of Act 1) or Asteroid coaster. Can't post any more images xD(((.

I wish Shadow the hedgehog was included. It had some great inspiring zones.

Maybe I'll report on what stages from classic games I want to see in SG.

It's a long shot, but what levels would you like to see included from spin-off games? I understand that it's a bad decision for multiple reasons (I wouldn't even include them!), but there are 2 level themes that I enjoyed. If they were made into full-blown Sonic levels, I certainly wouldn't complain:

These levels are

from Sonic Spinball, and
from Sonic and the Secret Rings.

Oh, and I never played this level, but

would be hilarious fun, if only for it's incredible music. (minecart, lol) Edited by Indigo Rush

I agree with a lot of the sentiment people have mentioned as far as what stages to include. a couple differences though:

Sonic Adventure:

Speed Highway - This is my favorite level in that game, I think it's quite amazing.

SA 2:

Metal Harbor - Fun level with a very challenging A rank to get, and the music is AWESOME

Sonic Heroes:

I second the egg fleet "vote" a few posts up, I love that level.

As for turning 3D stages into 2D, I am very curious to see this done, and I really hope the next level they reveal is one of these situations.

I was just thinking, I'd really hate to see an imbalance of classic and modern zones, but look at the number of main games:

Classic:

Sonic 1

Sonic 2

Sonic 3

Sonic & Knuckles

Sonic CD (likely)

Modern:

Adventure

Adventure 2

Heroes

Shadow

'06

Unleashed

Sonic 4 (possibly?)

Colours

Rush (quite renowned and known for a handheld title)

Rush Adventure (as above)

Even without those few in brackets, there's more modern games than classic ones. I hope they balance this out by including multiple levels from classic games, and are sure to treat S3 and S&K as different games.

^^I'm almost certain they will count S3 and S&K as separate games. Most people outside of the fandom do not count them as one game, and most of that group also don't even realize that S&K is basically S3 part 2. Also, it's only fair to treat them as separate for this game seeing as Sega sells them as separate games still.

Sega has apparently gone to a three bracket system of diving up the stages, so your list is a bit inaccurate. If you divide up the Modern era games into 2 sections (one for Dreamcast era, and one for Modern era) then the imbalance seems to go away a bit. (especially if you take Dreamcast liberally and cram Heroes and/or Shadow into that column).

Here's my stage list blog on ign i'm posting it here to show you guys:Sonic generations is Sega's nostalgic anniversary game which features stages throughout Sonics history. The game will have Three Different Era's:Modern, Dreamcast, and classic. With much speculation as to what Stages will make the cut almost every stage has a shot of getting in. It's almost like guessing characters for Marvel vs Capcom 3 before it came out. So without further ado here is my wishlist:

Modern stages: While not many "Modern games have had there memorable stages i could pick a few that would definitly fit.

Nocturne: the dark city from Sonic Chronicles would make a interesting level for both 3d and 2d sonic to explore. with that neon next gen look it could be a gorgeous addition.

Tropical resort: yes, with that french interview with sega one of the workers at there mentioned colors being there. that brings me to this level. while some may say it's to modern well the it would make up for colors not being on consoles.

Kingdom valley: That's right folks i'm bringing a 06 stage. why? Story aside there is so much that could be done here for platforming. a more updated look wouldn't be bad either. plus i can see it in the game.

Spagonia: The busy vibrant streets of spagonia would be a perfect level for classic sonic. if you've played the xbox unleashed 2d sections you know why. with moving platforms, balloons, buildings it could just work like that.

Grand metropolis or Metal city: I can't really choose here. They both bring out that futuristic vibe and are beautiful. i can see 2d sonic jumping on a hover board and pulling a ice cap.(in 2d) either one is fine or even both!

Egg fleet: This. This is one of those perfect stages that would give you a sense of bad assness. going through the ships destroying all of Robuttniks bots would just be perfect. it makes me think of unleashed(the opening cgi scene).

Dreamcast: I really am not going to explain these ones because The design for each would fit very well in my eyes.

Emerald coast

Twinkle park

Final egg or Sky deck

City escape

Space colony

Metal harbor

Classic: oh the classic era. that nostalgic trip to the past this is probably were sega will get most stages from. i wouldn't even care if they did it. just as long as they do it right.

Palm tree panic

Stardust speedway

Sky sanctuary

Hydrocity

Angel island

ice cap

death egg

Spring yard

marble zone

DLC: there are a lot of stages that could be included for this but really quickly i will list them off:

Casino night

Planet wisp

mushroom hill

pumpkin hill

aquatic ruin

seaside hill

lost world/ocean palace

Well there's my list i know it's a lot but i expect only a few from my list to make it.
