What stages do you want to see in Sonic Generations?

Recommended Posts

I'm gonna try ironing down my list and go by the assumption that we're getting one zone per game. This would be the ones I'd want to see. I'd like to think odds are that the main zones are more than likely not going to involve any spin-off titles, and I doubt we're getting zones from any games after Unleashed. As much as I'd love an HD Planet Wisp or the like, Colors probably didn't even get a good deal of development before Generations.

Sonic 1: Green Hill Zone

Sonic CD: Stardust Speedway

Sonic 2: Chemical Plant Zone

Sonic 3: Ice Cap Zone

Sonic & Knuckles: Death Egg Zone

Sonic Adventure: Twinkle Park

Sonic Adventure 2: City Escape

Sonic Heroes: Frog Forest

Shadow the Hedgehog: Mad Matrix/Digital Circuit

Sonic 06: Kingdom Valley

With the news that the 3DS will have an entirely unique level list to the HD version, besides Green Hill, of course, I gotta change up my old list. Here's what I'd like to see from each version, as well as certain levels that got the most votes in the poll (let's just pretend that each era will have 10 levels each):

HD Version:

Sonic 1

-Green Hill

-Spring Yard

Sonic 2

-Chemical Plant

-Aqautic Ruin

Sonic 3 and Knuckles (really 2 games in one, so 4 levels go here)

-Angel Island

-Hydrocity

-Sky Sanctuary

-Ice Cap

Sonic CD

-Stardust Speedway

Sonic Adventure

-Emerald Coast

-Casinopolis

-Twinkle Park

Sonic Adventure 2

-City Escape

-Metal Harbor

-Crazy Gadget

Sonic Heroes

-Grand Metropolis

-Hang Castle/Mystic Mansion

-Bullet Station

Sonic 2006

-Kingdom Valley

-Crisis City

-Dusty Desert

Sonic Unleashed

-Windmill Isle

-Rooftop Run

-Dragon Wall

Sonic Colors

-Sweet Mountain

-Planet Wisp

-Starlight Carnival

Final Levels

-Death Egg (Classic Era Final Stage)

-Egg Fleet (Dreamcast Era Final Stage)

-Eggmanland (Modern Era Final Stage)

I chose these because... well, I really wanna see these recreated in 3D! At least for the Genesis titles. Imagine Modern Sonic in a massive Spring Yard zone, having to maneuver from spring to spring, or blasting through Chemical Plant in all it's polluted surrealism? And what about Hydrocity or Aquatic Ruin? Plus, I don't think I need to explain Sky Sanctuary to you guys. Also, the later levels, in my mind, either deserve to be preserved in 3D or presented in HD to get the full effect, and that can't happen on the 3DS version. These levels also have really big moments in the franchise that deserve full justice, like the Death Egg rising in Sky Sanctuary, or Sonic getting chased by the truck in City Escape... this is stuff we should see in glorious HD.

The last 3 levels could be the final levels for each respective era; maybe they'll stay the same on the both versions? (and yes, I count Heroes as a Dreamcast-era game; it feels too much like the Adventure titles in comparison to the HD games).

3DS version:

Sonic 1

-Green Hill

-Scrap Brain

Sonic 2

-Casino Night

-Hill Top

Sonic 3/Knuckles

-Ice Cap

-Launch Base

-Flying Battery

-Lava Reef

Sonic CD

-Stardust Speedway

Sonic Adventure

-Emerald Coast

-Speed Highway

-Twinkle Park

Sonic Adventure 2

-Metal Harbor

-Pyramid Cave

-Crazy Gadget

Sonic Heroes

-Frog Forest

-Grand Metropolis

-Hang Castle/Mystic Mansion

Sonic 2006

-Kingdom Valley

-Crisis City

-Radical Train

Sonic Unleashed

-Windmill Isle

-Savannah Citadel

-Dragon Wall

Sonic Colors

-Sweet Mountain

-Planet Wisp

-Asteroid Coaster

Final Stages

-Death Egg (Classic Era Final Stage)

-Egg Fleet (Dreamcast era final stage)

-Eggmanland (Modern Era Final stage)

These are levels I definitely wanna see, but wouldn't miss not seeing in HD. Plus, they're other levels that were voted highly, so they gotta appear somewhere. I repeated some levels, but only because I consider them to be the most iconic levels of those games (just my opinion though). Plus, you gotta admit that some levels just seem made for 2D. Honestly, Flying Battery in 3D would be pretty hard to pull off properly. Plus, I swapped out some levels to give the game some more balance (for example, since Scrap Brain is very much like Metallic Madness, I swapped out MM for Collision Chaos, which is like Spring Yard zone, or, since City Escape is in the HD version and Speed Highway got a lot of votes, it appears here in its place, etc). Also, some levels would just have way too much going on for the 3DS (based on the simplistic remake of Green Hill in comparison to the HD one).

Also, they don't necessarily all have those defining franchise moments that should be recreated in HD... yeah, sure, Speed Highway's got that epic moment of Sonic running down the building, but that'd be cool for it to be recreated on the 3DS with you controlling Sonic's side-to-side movement with the touchpad or something. Stuff like that would be awesome, and justify it's place on the 3DS!

Yeah, yeah, I got way too much time on my hands, but hey, if the level list for both versions turns out to be anything like this, I'll be pretty happy.

A very reliable source at retro has just potentially spoiled the entire list of levels for the console version. I'm pissed, not because the selection is crappy (it kind of is though), but it's a pretty fucking massive spoiler to post with zero warning whatsoever. I'll save you the trouble and won't post it here, but anyone is free to look.

*taps fingers* I can't do that to myself, not this early in the game. If my Hydrocity isn't on there, I want that to be revealed later on when it's gotten to the point where any such disappointment over content won't have as much time to stew until the game's release. And if that list is gonna be posted here... yah, I may not come back to this particular forum for awhile. =P

._. So my hard work was useless?!

But yeah, I'll definitely look into the list. Hopefully it's not THAT disappointing, as long as the key stages are present and accounted for, I won't be THAT disappointed. I just hope they respected their own goddamn poll.

*after looking at it*

Good choices, but DAMN is it fucking minimal. Also, a certain game is seriously missing in action!!!! I'm hoping each level has multiple acts and missions, for both Classic and Modern Sonic, at least. Plus, I'm betting Doomsday will, indeed, show up after getting the Emeralds, or something. Could be wrong, but I'm still hoping. We'll just have to wait and see if it's genuine.

I'm going to have to call fake on that list. That is EXACTLY the same as the toys in development, I think he just looked at those and used that as a basis. In the Jazeware toy picture you can't see the Unleashed stage, and suddenly he doesn't want to take a guess at it? They showed bgs for the toys of all the stages he is claiming in game. It just sounds exactly like the picture of the toys we saw several weeks ago except using it as a level basis.

Only one of the level choices is bad so to say, but there's not as many as I would have hoped for and the variety is lacking.

No SCD, only one stage from the whole of S3K and a poor representation of the Adventure series. Not to mention that a selection of tropes are being ignored.

A little disappointed in the choices if it's real, though at least the quantity isn't lacking, since we'll be getting more full stages compared to Colors.

But really? Three city stages and possibly a Green Hill-alike zone?

In fairness, that would actually make sense. Especially considering that there's at least one badnik that's been redesigned in that Sonic through time collection that hasn't been seen in either S4 or Colours, but is from one of these levels.

How do we know that guy is telling the truth? So he's made some lucky guesses in the past that anyone could predict, so what? Calling fake with Dusk Golem.

This all just sounds like they used these toys and their backgrounds to determine the stages.

It is exactly the same as the "list" of potential from several weeks ago, I am calling fake.

I find it to fishy that he "doesn't remember" the Unleashed stage when that is the only toy bg you can't see clearly, and "maybe" on Heroes since the stage seems unlikely. The toys may or may not be representative of the games.

I'll call fake on the list too, and for one primary reason.

The inclusion of Crisis City.

In order for that level to even be possible, the level would have to take place way after Colors.

And not be retconned.

Colours was 6 stages, 7 counting TV. This is the same as Unleashed HD.

I guess you're right, though for some reason I never count Terminal Velocity as it doesn't feel like a "full" stage or area.

I dunno. Whether it's real or not, that list is about the absolute bare minimum to satisfy me. The lack of a CD level is a bit baffling and the overabundance of city levels (two in a row?) is pretty ridiculous, but a lot of the predictable choices are there. It would be nice to actually see Crisis City, I guess... I will seriously be angry if we get Seaside Hill, though. Nobody could be stupid enough to put that and Green Hill in the same game.

Still, the lack of any fire/ice/Eggman base levels is pretty baffling. I guess the first two might be reserved for the 3DS version (and the unknown Unleashed level might be Cool Edge), but what's a Sonic game without an Eggman base?

Honestly, I agree with the toy theory, but at the same time, that could be his proof... to a point.

Personally, I'd like to see a few adjustments, with each level PACKED with content, mind you (extra missions and acts for each hedgehogs galore). Here's what I'd like to see, based on the available games we could be seeing... *sigh*

Sonic 1 - Green Hill

Sonic 2 - Chemical Plant

Sonic 3 - Sky Sanctuary

Sonic Adventure - Twinkle Park

Sonic Adventure - City Escape

Sonic Heroes - Bingo Highway

Sonic 2006 - Crisis City

Sonic Unleashed - Dragon Road (why not)

Sonic Colors - Planet Wisp

Epic Surprise Final Level

This way, we'd at least be getting levels that represent each game well, as well as offering a level list that covers as many different environments as possible: a lush forest, Eggman's chemical plant, a sky temple, a bright vibrant theme park, an epic cityscape, a casino-style level, a burning city, a oriental and possible water stage, and a foresty Eggman base thing.

At least, that's what I'm hoping we see... just swap out one level and I'm happy. But we'll see what happens.... *sighs* I should have known that the level list wouldn't be all that big... but like I said, so long as each area is unique, represents its game well and is PACKED TO THE FUCKING BRIM WITH CONTENT, I'll be pleased :D

Since the structure has just been posted in the status update.... this is your first chance not to look, this is the rumour, the big rumour in the spoiler tags. DO NOT LOOK IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILT.

sonic 1 - Green Hill Zone.

sonic 2 - chemical plant

sonic 3 - sky sanctuary

sonic adventure - speed highway

sonic adventure 2 - city escape

sonic heroes - either seaside hill / bingo highway

sonic 06 - crisis city

sonic unleashed - unknown (source didn't remember)

sonic colors - planet wisp

Why the list might be real...

We have known for a few months now that Jazzwares have been tasked to make various Sonic toys for the 20th anniversary. If you look at the list of confirmed toys, they match this list.

Sonic + MotorBug = GHZ.

Tails + Spider = Chemical Plant.

Knuckles + Eggrobo = Sonic Heroes/Bingo highway/seaside hill.

Silver + Monster = Crisis City.

Shadow + Badnik = City Escape

Dr Robotnik Pack + Classic Eggrobo badniks (I forget their official name = Sky Sancturary.

There are a few other toys too which might fit, as well as F4F's rumoured production.

Why else the list might be accurate and what it also means.

In the first interview, Mr Iizuka confirmed that Tails, Knuckles and Shadow would likely to be included, given the stages shown so far and the jazzweres figures, this seems to fit the theory that these are the stages.

However... it would also potentially confirm Classic Tails and Silver for the game. (Don't forget we already know Classic eggman/robotnik is confirmed).

Why it might not be genuine...

There has been mention/a big hint has there not, about some kind of other enemy in this game? Exactly how would he/she/it fit into that level structure?

It's a random guy posting a list online, how many times do we get that during a new Sonic games development?

Planet Wisp, as good as it is, isn't exactly classic/modern Sonic climax territory... unless it gets radically re-designed.

Here's hoping Crisis City really isn't in the game. Not only are there better levels to choose from from '06 (Kingdom Valley anyone?), but CC is kind of a representation of a lot of things that were wrong with the series during though couple of 'mature and hardcore serious' years.
