What stages do you want to see in Sonic Generations?

Slingerland seems to indicate that the list is bogus, as most here suspected. That's a relief.

Man you guys don't know how relieved this makes me.

2 acts per zone in 9 zones would be even shorter than unleashed

Yay brad flick

I bet we're at least getting 13 stages, each with the 2 acts: one for Modern Sonic and one for Classic. That alone would be 26 stages in total. Plus, consider each stage will probably get at least one boss (either one classic or one modern), as well as the fact that we could be seeing extra missions, like what Adventure 2 or Unleashed had, for each act. Seriously imagine if each act has 3 "hot dog missions" (collect X amount of rings, destroy X amount of enemies, get to the end of the stage in X minutes) that "level up" and get harder each time you beat them, as well as possibly a few other missions unique to that level? Also consider if you get all S ranks, perhaps Hard mode will return? :P

Then consider there could be a final level unlocked once all the others have been cleared, and quite possibly (and I'm seriously crossing my fingers) Doomsday as the true final battle once you get all the Emeralds, and I'm guessing you'll unlock each one after you collect a certain number of red rings. In short, 14 levels, with a modern and classic act for each, a boss for each level, and extra missions as well as a possible "true" final boss once you get the Chaos Emeralds could make this game about as lengthy as Adventure 2, give or take. And that was a hefty game in terms of length and replayability.

Plus, consider all the goodies that could be buried in the game to unlock. We could be playing to unlock content from the game, such as music, cutscenes, or art, as well as stuff like that from the franchise's history. Like, for example, what if one of the goodies is the Sonic CD intro movie, in HD? Or better yet, imagine the same movie rendered in CGI......

SEGA, don't drop the ball when it comes to the extra content and replayability of this game. Please. :3

Just something worth mentioning as far a how much content they can fit:

Obviously the limiting factor here is the 360's smaller disc space which has resulted in a few mentions of multiple discs. Seems a little out there for a Sonic game, but bear with me for a second....

In October, when we first heard the rumors about the compilation game, it was mentioned that the game was being developed for the PS3 and that while a 360 port was possible, it couldn't be confirmed. Perhaps the limited disc space is why there was no Generations360 back in October...maybe the game being on 2 discs isn't that far fetched after all? Maybe.

Okay guys, what should the final zone be? All this talk of other interesting stages, but the game has to climax somewhere. I don't know whether I want to see Death Eggmanland Brain Carrier Fortress Zone or something new for Generations. Either would be pretty amazing.

Ever since S&SASR I've been yearning for Death Egg to be incorporated into a fully playable Generations level.

It should be the final stage in the game where-as the inevitable Super Sonic final story stage/boss is some sort of amalgam of various climatic encounters throughout the games and ends with an original final boss.

Final level, in my opinion, should be a composite of the Egg Fleet and Death Egg. Like, make the Egg Fleet a way of getting to the Death Egg. Perhaps each Sonic could have a relatively lengthy 15-minute level, with Modern Sonic going from ship to ship (like Sonic Heroes, but even more epic) until he boards the Death Egg, which would be similar to Final Fortress, but with Sonic and Knuckles' Death Egg asthetics. Meanwhile, Classic Sonic's stage would be a massive Death Egg remake, with elements of Egg Fleet thrown in. It could be called "Egg Finale", or something. I think it could be pretty epic.

Dunno if this has been posted or not, but Iizuka had this to say about the level list for both versions:

Generations will revisit and remix levels from Sonic's entire history, including his Genesis and Dreamcast outings, but only the 3DS game may borrow stages from older handheld games. "For the PS3 and 360, none of the stages we're selecting are going to be from the handheld," Iizuka explained during a brief Q&A session. "However, on 3DS we're looking at picking stages from handheld as well.

I'm still guessing the games on my list might have a shot for the console version, but perhaps replace Sonic Rush with Black Knight (I choose you, Dragon Lair!). As for the 3DS version, I'm guessing Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure will definitely appear, perhaps replacing 2006 and Unleashed even. But what other handheld games do you guys think will show up? Perhaps the 3DS will have a larger level count and we might even see the Dimps-developed Advance games, or Pocket Adventure?

Remember, Gamegear games were excluded from the popularity poll, so I doubt those games will show up, but still, at this point, who knows?

A final stage eh? I wouldn't mind a combination of a few of the previous stages.

Egg Fleet >> Egg Carrier >> Death Egg (with a tinge of Eggmanland within)

That would be my dream final stage.

Final Zone should be Deatheggmanlandsday Zone or something like that, and the last boss should be half boss half stage like in Unleashed but without time limit and boring gameplay slapped on in the last minute.

I think the final boss should be a new Egg Mech, perhaps like the Giant Eggman Robo in Sonic 3, but... I dunno, updated. Perhaps like Metal Robotnik? :P I think it should be a 2-part fight; the first part will be with Classic Sonic, maybe having him jump from level to level to destroy certain parts of the robot, such as his fingers, and part of his head. After all that, Sonic has to run away as his spits fire and shoots missiles at him while chasing him and destroying the bridge in the front of him, and the only way to hurt him is to strike his jaw to reveal the weakspot. For Modern Sonic, his part of the battle would be to chase him and inflict damage when close enough; think of the Egg Nega Wisp mixed with the Egg Emperor. I mean, I just wanna see a really massive boss myself, and I want the fight to be directly against it.

And of course, once you get the Chaos Emeralds, I wanna see a remake of Doomsday Zone, but that's another story B)

I personally the list is gonna be this:

Sonic 2:Chemical Plant

Sonic 3:Hyrdocity Zone

Sonic&Knuckles:Lava Reef/Sky Sanctuary/Doomsday Zone(all of them, or two of them, I don't know)

Sonic Adventure 1:Emerald Coast

Sonic Adventure 2:City Escape

Sonic Heroes: Egg Fleet

Sonic 06:Kingdom Valley

Sonic Unleashed:Rooftop Run

Sonic Colors:Planet Wisp

Would cover all the most iconic, and common fan favourites, and maybe with each game getting a Hubworld were gonna see plenty of nodes to the rest of each respective game.

I expect all of the zones to be in chronological order, and since I very much doubt that Asteroid Coaster or Terminal Velocity will be chosen to represent Colours, I'm sure our final zone will be something brand-new. I do hope that we get at least one proper Eggman base level somewhere, though; my biggest problem with that fake level list was the complete lack of anything Eggman.

I'd really rather see Lava Reef represent S&K, BUT I would not be surprised at all if we see Mushroom Hill. It might not be the most requested zone, but after all the fuss over this...

I kind of expect SEGA to put it in the game

Based on what Patrick during the IGN interview, I think that in the S3K stages we might get to see some elemental shields. It'd be a proper cool touch, that. And what else will they add to make the stages fresh? GHZ is fairly standard for both Sonic's (plus giant Chopper and caves), but the construction like areas of CE, the maniacal truck and skateboard really make the stage seem fresh. Even if all the stages I want aren't there, I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

I think the Final stage should be a mish mash of different stages that have been distorted together into some weird creepy timey-wimey stage kinda falling apart and disintegrating within itself. A bit like End of the World in 06 I guess, just done better. Either that or it's own thing, the only original level in the game. I'd feel somewhat underwhelmed by the final stage if it was exactly the same as all the others in the sense that's it's a remake of an old final stage, there'd be nothing to differentiate it from everything else, nothing to make it unique and special.

A nice snippet from a preview:

They wouldn’t talk levels beyond Green Hill Zone and City Escape, but expect levels plucked from throughout Sonic’s history. They were picked by surveying the fans and dev teams, but variation was also important, so they weren’t a slave to that process. Expect them to mix it up quite a bit.

A nice snippet from a preview:

So it's doubtful we'll be getting Seaside Hill and Emerald Coast to go along with Green Hill, all that sort of thing. And with two city stages confirmed already, a third doesn't seem likely.

Also, fuck yeah Rooftop Run!

Hell yeah, Rooftop Run kicks ass :P But anyway, why not Emerald Coast? It's a beach resort level, not so much a foresty level like Green Hill is. I'd still would love to see it.

I'm guessing we'll be seeing about 12 stages from the games (rather than 9; one more stage per era, Ice Cap stage counting towards the Dreamcast one as well as the Classic), one from each of the franchise's most influencial titles, so here's what I got:

-Green Hill (Sonic 1)

-Stardust Speedway (CD)

-Chemical Planet (2)

-Ice Cap (3)

-Lava Reef (Knuckles)

-Emerald Coast (Adventure)

-City Escape (Adventure 2)

-Casino Park (Heroes)

-Kingdom Valley (2006)

-Sand Oasis (Secret Rings)

-Rooftop Run (Unleashed)

-Starlight Carnival (Colors)

I cobbled this list together based on what stages got the most votes in the polls, as well as what I'd like to see for the post Adventure 2 stages. The list also covers the major archtypes that are found in Sonic games: opening forest stage, snow and fire levels, a beach/resort level, city stages, a casino level, anchient ruins, a desert level, and a fleet of Eggman ships.

Of course, there's a lot I'd like to see from this list. For example, for Ice Cap, I hope the classic version of the stage is more in-tune with the Sonic 3 version, while the Modern version is based off of the Adventure 1 version, but with more speed segments. Or for Starlight Carnival, I'd love to see Sonic bound from starship to starship like he did in Sonic Heroes. Or for the Classic Emerald Coast, have Sonic get chased by the whale in 2D while Modern Sonic RIDES the whale through the bridge, Wave Ocean style. Stuff like that would make me extremely happy. I also hope the levels can be selected Colors-style, so the levels don't necessarily have to be awkwardly chronologically placed in the game: for example, you beat Green Hill, and Chemical Plant and Stardust Speedway are unlocked, and you can beat them in whichever order you want.

I also hope the boss list is really diverse for this game. I've posted a wishlist before, but I simply hope it represents the best of what it's from, even if the boss doesn't always perfectly line-up with the level it's from. For example, while I think that the boss best suited to represent Green Hill is Classic Sonic battling Wrecking Ball, Emerald Coast could be represented by Modern Sonic fighting off Perfect Chaos. Or, for Lava Reef, even though it beat out Sky Sanctuary, I still think the boss of the level could be Metal Sonic, fought on the part of Angel Island where Sky Sanctuary takes place. I also think each boss should be represented by the boss theme it originally had from the game it's from (perhaps Sonic 3's boss could have the Act 1 theme while the Sonic and Knuckles boss has the act 2 theme, or something), just to really add to the authenticity of it all.

Also, I think this is a solid level list; no need for a final new zone. Perhaps after all the levels are completed, the "evil force" appears and an epic boss fight alternating between Classic and Modern Sonic ensues. Of course, I'd still love to see Eggman come out on top, so perhaps once you get the Emeralds, Eggman reveals how he was a key player in all that transpired and tries to make an escape, while Doomsday zone would make a triumphant return, again alternating between Classic and Modern Sonic for each phase of the fight.

If Sonic Team can pull stuff like this off, I'd be overjoyed, even if they can't cram in 18 stages like we were initially hoping for.

They were picked by surveying the fans and dev teams, but variation was also important, so they weren’t a slave to that process.

I knew it! I knew they were going to base their choices on level themes. As I said before, they can't follow up Green Hill Zone with Emerald Hill Zone. They have to pick a stage with a different level theme. That's why doubted Speed Highway would be in the game since City Escape would follow it up anyway.

So I'm revising my choices. Here is my current list of levels I want to see in Generations. I'll also keep in mind that only one level might represent each game.

Classic

Sonic 1 - Green Hill Zone (CONFIRMED)

Sonic CD - Stardust Speedway

Sonic 2 - Chemical Plant Zone

Sonic 3 & Knuckles - Lava Reef Zone

Adventure

Sonic Adventure - Emerald Coast

Sonic Adventure 2 - City Escape (CONFIRMED)

Sonic Heroes - Egg Fleet

Modern

Sonic Unleashed - Chun-Nan

Sonic Colors - Starlight Carnival

Sonic Generations - A brand new level, either a Death Egg II (that's actually canon) or some twisted underworld.
