What stages do you want to see in Sonic Generations?

Catching up on this topic, looking through all the excitement over level variation. Remember, they said it in a manner that was secondary in favor of the top picks for fans and development teams. Just putting that out there, for those expecting a super-varied level roster.

I thought it was the other way around? Where's your source, because I've forgotten where mine is completely.

They wouldn’t talk levels beyond Green Hill Zone and City Escape, but expect levels plucked from throughout Sonic’s history. They were picked by surveying the fans and dev teams, but variation was also important, so they weren’t a slave to that process. Expect them to mix it up quite a bit.

That's actually the source I was thinking about. The quote implies that surveying was the main interest, but also kept tropes in mind.

Something I've been saying for a while now, actually. It just makes sense.

Honestly, any levels that share the same trope will still vary greatly in visual aesthetics and gameplay ideas. They can put City Escape, Speed Highway, Rooftop Run and Crisis City together in the same game, and still have a very different experience for each.

Secondary tropes! ;)

Right right right, I thought your post was saying that tropes were secondary to fan picks. From the sounds of it they're on fairly equal footing. Fan picks are important, but not at the cost of tropes. Which is awesome.

Fan picks are good but i don't want to see like 2 tropical themes ans 3 city themes.

Anyway it's awesome that we're getting more acts but i guess these acts will be mini-acts in front of the 2 big ones.

I'm actually kind of worried about the mention of extra acts. Extra acts in Unleashed were short and gimmicky in design (relying entirely blocky platforming and insane reflexes) and in Colours 3 or 4 acts were zone crappy because they were again, short and gimmicky sections cut out of proper acts. Less of that, more real acts please. So like, two per Sonic.

Not that i have a problem with shorter acts but i'd like to have more zones than acts. I don't want the extra acts to be in the way of more possible zones.

Also yeah Blue Blood 2 big acts per Sonic would be totally awesome!!!

What stages do I want to see.. hmm..

Generations will get 9 different stages so I chose only 9.

*Green Hill

*City Escape

*Rooftop Run

Chemical Plant Zone

Angel Island Zone

Flying Battery

Stardust Speedway

Speed Highway(Could get used as a Casino stage.. Needs just some other decoration)

Aquarium Park (Or any other water-stage :3)

I am hoping for Stardust Speedway so badly. >_<

I'm revising my choices yet again because I am woefully indecisive. But I'll only make a slight revision this time.

Classic

Sonic 1 - Green Hill Zone (CONFIRMED)

Sonic CD - Stardust Speedway

Sonic 2 - Chemical Plant Zone

Sonic 3 & Knuckles - Lava Reef Zone

Adventure

Sonic Adventure - Emerald Coast

Sonic Adventure 2 - City Escape (CONFIRMED)

Sonic Heroes - Casino Park

Modern

Sonic Unleashed - Chun-Nan

Sonic Colors - Starlight Carnival

Sonic Generations - Original Level

I changed my choice for Sonic Heroes because I want to see a casino level in this game. Since Casino Night Zone won't make the cut for the console version of Generations, I'd settle for Casino Park. Sega All-Stars Racing already demonstrates how well Modern Sonic would translate in Casino Park, and Classic Sonic would translate just as well.

Great list, almost identical to mine :P Though Rooftop Run WAS confirmed.... trust me, I would have preferred Dragon Road myself, but hey, it happens =/

Anyhow, now the question is how many acts do you think each zone will have? Sonic Generations was confirmed by Aaron Webber to have more than 9 levels, so I'm guessing we'll be getting at least 10 to 12 (I'd like 12, but take out Ice Cap and Sand Oasis and I'd still be happy with my list). My guess is that each level will have 3 acts per hedgehog. Either that, or the level should have the same number of acts as it did in the original version (for example, Green Hill could have 3 acts while Lava Reef has 2). This could also given the next act the secondary theme of the level, in case the second act originally had a different theme (Emerald Coast could also have 2 acts, for example).

Also, it's been said that the "interactive menu" will serve as the hub, and it starts off white and once you color it in, more levels will open up to you (anyone get the impression that colors player a bigger roll in this game than a certain other Sonic title? :rolleyes: ). My guess is that the map will be like a massive Sonic Colors map, but once you select a level, the camera will pan closer to Sonic and some details about the level will open up, almost like this screen shot. However, I'm betting in the final version, from here you'll also be able to select which Act of the level you play, and probably in the map you can select which Sonic to play as, which will more than likely allow you to go to exclusive acts or other stuff, while closing off others that only the other Sonic can access.

My guess on how you progress is, like Colors, once you clear all the acts of the level, 2 more levels will open up; however, this can very between Modern and Classic Sonic's. Let's say you beat all the Green Hill acts with Classic Sonic, but not Modern. You can't unlock the next stage until you clear the acts for both hedgehogs.

Also, I'm guessing the missions you get will come from characters from the franchise's history. In the Iizuka Q&A, he also said characters could eventually be found on this map. I'm guessing we'll be seeing a plethora of characters, and perhaps they'll be where select missions come from (perhaps Amy wants you to collect X amount of rings, or Cream wants you to find Cheese, for example). Nothing too crazy, like the missions from Unleashed, but stuff to keep it fresh nonetheless. Plus, it could lead to great character interaction, like what Sonic Colors DS did, but.... y'know, a bit more fufilling for Sonic's 20th. Also, another cool kink is that maybe Modern Sonic can only interact with "modern" characters, while Classic Sonic can only meet the classic ones. Perhaps this can be humorously addressed in the story, MGS style (you can't do that, you'll create a time paradox! etc). Plus, this can lead to a solid balance between the missions each 'hog will get.

I seriously hope I'm not too far off when it comes to this, 'cause if done right, it could be awesome. I don't see why this content couldn't fit on a 360 disc, if executed properly, especially given the monstrously large games on the system that have incredibly demanding graphics that are also over 25+ hours long.

The Japanese version is much more frantic for the Metal Sonic race, so go with that one.

The only reason I want Stardust Speedway in is to have Modern Sonic race Metal Sonic. The gameplay style would be perfect for it. And if the level designers can revamp Stardust Speedway to be more tolerable, I would totally be up for it.

If they can make SSZ be different enough from both CPZ and any other city stage then I'm all game. I'd like for it to take a turn being the more galactic stage, like a musical neon highway in space. Plus, I guess it's true that racing Metal Sonic in modern style is just too hardcore to miss.

My current wishlist for the levels:

S1 - Green Hill Zone (confirmed)

S2 - Chemical Plant Zone

S3 - Ice Cap Zone

S&K - Lava Reef Zone

SCD - Stardust Speedway Zone

SA1 - Emerald Coast

SA2 - City Escape (confirmed)

SH - Casino Park

SNG - Kingdom Valley

SWA - Rooftop Run (all but confirmed)

SC - Sweet Mountain

FINAL - Death Egg Zone

Definitely not in that order (except for the first and last), but twelve stages ain't bad is it? And yes I know Sky Sanctuary has a much larger chance over Lava Reef; and it won't bother me too much if it replaces LRZ. Just as long as magma/lava appears somewhere in this game at least... please?

Why do I think that I'm the only one who desires Red Mountain, Windy Valley, Lost World, and Speed Highway for SA1 in place of Emerald Coast? D:

It's great and all, but I'm afraid we'll get too many tropicaL tropes. <_<

I love all the Sonic stages in SA1, especially over Emerald Coast. I just know that's gonna be the obvious pick.. unfortunately.

I'm sure they could amp it up and intensify the beach trope though; and make it as far away from Green Hill as possible. Less tropical landmasses, more lighthouses, Adabat-esque tiki huts, jungle-esque stuff, and beaches.
