What stages do you want to see in Sonic Generations?

I just had an idea... if City Escape makes it in (Which is extremely likely), anyone else think we'll get an Ice Cap Zone-esque boarding section in the beginning for Classic Sonic?

if there's a stage from Sonic 2 I'd love to see over anything else, it's Metropolis Zone. That place would be absolutely HUGE in this game (judging by the expansion done on Green Hill) and how downright funky would that music sound when remixed like Green Hill has been?

That IS an interesting prospect. All of the classic zones that are quite out there would look amazing gin this game. Casino Night, Hydrocity, Ice Cap, Lava Reef... I can't imagine I'll be disappointed.

Fund it.

I was also thinking about this, I wonder if we are going to get some obstacles, red rings to catch or ramps... or just some interactive cutscene like icecap, I wouldn't mind any of that.

I honestly don't know what people love Chemical Plant so much... Isn't Hydrocity another popular one? Chemical Plant and Hydrocity are my LEAST favorite stages in Sonic 2 and Sonic 3, respectively. It would be interesting to see Chemical Plant re-visioned in modern 3D graphics, though...

EDIT: Stages I'd like to see? Either Sky Sanctuary or Marble Garden. I'd also like to see an Ark stage, perhaps combining various versions together from Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Adventure 2 to make it fit better into the Unleashed style... although I wouldn't mind a lot of platforming, as well.

Chaotix is undoubtedly in line for being ignored in Generations, but I still like to imagine what some of those stages would look like. Botanic Base especially. It's one of the best look Sonic levels to date.

Failing that, Marina Madness or Isolated Island would be just as awesome.

Chaotix's Artwork was influenced heavily on surrealism.

You talk about most Sonic games having a surreal art-style. No they do not. Sonic 1-3K had a fantasy art-style. Chaotix on the other hand, with all the seemingly incongruent shapes and weird patters and a lot of bizzare artistic juxtaposition is what you would call surreal (btw, abstract and surreal are completely different things).

Chaotix styled levels would look incredible if Sonic Team managed to bring that kind of art into 3D with the same level of competance as they did with Green Hill.

This game just isn't the about classics, so we have to look into many different eras of Sonic. Classic, Dreamcast, Modern. Though its up for debate where Heroes and Shadow fit in the equation.

Though the most prominently featured Sonic zone themes take place in either the hilly beach, the city, or the space station. We have Green Hill, so I don't think we'll be seeing Angle Island , or Emerald Coast/Hill. Beachy Hillish zone has been covered. So we've got the city and space station to cover. From the classics, that means any of the Carnival levels for the city, and any Death Egg like zone. From the modern era, we've got the Adventures and Unleashed that feature many cities, and mostly the Ark for space. So narrowing that down:

Classic City Acts:

Casino Night - Sonic 2

Carnival Night zone - Sonic 3

Modern City Acts

- Station Square as a whole/ Casino/Speed Highway - Sonic Adventure

- Radical Highway/City Escape - Sonic Adventure 2

- Metropolis/Bingo Highway - Sonic Heroes

- Westopolis/ Central City - Shadow

- The Hubworld/ Crisis City - that game that was so awful it probably should not have a place in this one.

- Empire City/ Rooftop Run - Unleashed

Classic Space Levels:

- Sonic 2's final Boss....though that probably isn't much of a stage to make.

- Death Egg - Sonic 3 & K.

Modern Space levels:

-Anything to do with the Ark - Sonic Adventure 2

-Anything to do with the Ark - Shadow

-Starlight Carnival/ Asteroid Coaster, Tropical Resort (could double as city) - Sonic Colors

So I probably missed a few as I did not include the handheld games, but from that list, I think we can bet on the Space level coming from the modern side of things and dealing with the Ark since colors was so recent. The whole half of Sonic 2 was spent there and revisited in Shadow. Plus they don't have to take a specific act from it as the whole theme of the ark blends nicely as they can pick and pull gimmicks from each one. For example, Classic Sonic can go with gravity manipulation and slower platforming base of Lost Colony/Comic Wall and Crazy Gadget, while Modern Sonic can go gung-ho on the rails of the Final Chase/Final Rush aspect.

For the city, I highly suspect there is going to be a Carnival zone, mainly because it works for both Sonics. Classic Sonic can pinball while Modern Sonic can just run all over the place and bounce around on springs, possibly take the Sonic Adventure twist. Probably from one of the classics, though I wouldn't be surprised to see bingo highway. The return of the barrel of doom in one form or another would be a hilarious and iconic to represent in the history of Sonic.

I personally would like to see how they handle one of the Adventure's cities in classic style. Radical Highway would be interesting for sure. Ditto with City Escape.

Outside of the trinity of zone tropes some other acts I've been thinking of would be:

- Ice Cap - Sonic 3, is one of the most iconic classic stages there is. It's one of the things to point at when people look at classic Sonic. It's the obvious choice for an Ice zone trope.

-Something from Sonic CD - I really want to see what would come of this. The idea of mixing both music tracks, and using the past and future aspect to change up the acts for Classic/modern Sonic is a fangasm and is awesome. Tidal Tempest, Wacky Workbench, and Stardust Speedway would cover some other zone tropes too.

-A ruin zone - We've got Aquatic Ruin, Tidal Tempest, and Lost World to contend with. Though these guys deal with water. We'll see if Sonic Team as the balls to take Sonic underwater again like in Sonic Colors. Mixing it up based on Colors Sonic's water jump and classic Sonic's slower platforming. Lost World would be my choice if something else from Sonic CD makes it in. Or Rusty Ruin from Sonic 3D blast which would be pushing it, but that was my most memorable and favorite thing about that game.

-An Air Fortress zone- We've got The egg carrier from Sonic Adventure, Wing Fortress from Sonic 2, Flying Battery from Sonic 3, and the Air fleets in Sonic Heroes /Shadow. Anything form there would be awesome.

- Floating Palace from Sonic and the Secret Rings. I hate that game, but I'll be damned if I didn't say that remade with Classic Sonic and Unleashed Sonic in mind it would be fanfreaking tastic.

I tend to fit Shadow and Heroes in with "Dreamcast era" since technically, the Dreamcast was last-gen and Shadow/Heroes have far more similarities to the Adventure games.

Now, one thing I'd like to note about Shadow the Hedgehog... I wouldn't mind seeing stages from that game, but I'd definitely prefer them not to have all the "Black Arms" influences and stuff like that, instead showcasing them in their full glory without, y'know, falling apart and everything.

If they take one stage from each game (which I hope isn't the case), I think from Shadow the Hedgehog the best bet would be Space Gadget... simply give it some influences from SA2's Ark stages, as well, and have all the gravity-shifting devices. Plus, less bottomless pits (namely, have something to fall down to, or perhaps have gravity alter to drag you down to a lower platform). Unless, of course, its a later stage... in which case it wouldn't matter much.

Here's some stuff I'd really like, though:

Shadow the Hedgehog - Space Gadget (Perhaps), Death Ruins (I'd so love to see these ruins in HD...)

I don't think Central City (Shadow the Hedgehog) would appear, most notably due to the fact that City Escape will mostlikely be the SA2-based stage to appear (or at least one of them). Yes, I know the city in SA2 isn't named--its referred to as the capital, and said capital is later confirmed to be called "Central City" in Shadow the Hedgehog... it even features the SAME President from Sonic Adventure 2, who, likewise, appeared in both "Central City" and the "capital city"... Coincidence? No.

Sonic 1-Starlight Zone

Sonic 2-Chemical Plant

Sonic 3-Hydrocity or Ice Cap...more likely to be Ice Cap

SK-Lava Reef, Sky Sanctuary, or Flying Battery...

SCD-Stardust Speedway or Collision Chaos...or anything from that game since the zone designs and colors were shit crazy.

SA-maybe Twinkle Park? I doubt it'll be Speed Highway or Emerald Coast due to other confirmed zones.

SA2-City Escape, which I am 100% sure is in, no question.

SH-eh...maybe Grand Metropolis if the Metropolis Zone doesn't get in.

ShTH-Death Ruins maybe? maybe a Black Comet level?

S06-Crisis City, done right.

SU-...why? SU is already in SU style...

SC-Starlight Carnival in HD FTW!

Lava Reef zone is my top demanded zone...I will be mega sad if I don't get to see it in all its glory. Also 12 levels doesn't seem too unreasonable. 10 seems to be the norm, but Iizuka did make the point to IGN that this game "has had some extra time in the oven".

I want to see:

Marble Zone

Chemical Plant Zone

Oil Ocean Zone

City Escape

Radical Highway

I actually want to see the top 4 just because of the music. The last one is the only one I want to see because of the design :D

There are so SO many, but to name the bare minimum of the top of my head; Chemical plant zone, because well, it's awesome and fast, Marble Garden Zone because it's my favourite level and also awesome and could make for some interesting gameplay should they change things up a bit and say have Tails "controllable" whilst flying Sonic about ala the boss of said level in Sonic 3 and yes I know Sonic and classic Sonic are confirmed as the only playable characters, but technically you are still somewhat controlling Sonic ;)

And then I'd love to see some level, any level from Sonic Triple Trouble just so we get to have Nack the Weasel make a cameo, hey if there's anytime for it to happen it's now in a game that is delving into Sonic's past, literally. Perhaps the level should be Sunset Park because it had awesome music and a cool train racing idea would be awesome to see in this game, kinda like that level in Sth'06.

I can think of so many other levels but I'd literally just be listing every classic level ever so I won't bother.

I do hope they keep a variety of levels though, like seeing as they're doing GreenHill Zone they shouldn't bother too much by recreating say Emerald Hill Zone, keep the themes like one "Green colour hilly zone" one "Casino/Park/night time zone" "Lava/Fire zone" "Ice zone" "Jungle zone" "Desert zone" "Mech zone" that sort of thing. I really don't mind how they do it though. They've got so many great choices to pick from, it's gonna be awesome!!

Why are people suggesting stages from Shadow, or S06? Sega probably wants to forget those games ever existed. Do you really see them trying to get people to remember them?

They're a little unlikely to appear, and frankly given the way they've said the game's divided into "three eras" I wouldn't be surprised if they left out Heroes as well, but there's really nothing wrong with Shadow or '06 getting a little representation. I think it'd actually be pretty cool if Generations could 'redeem' elements from Shadow or '06... just because they were bad games doesn't mean that everything about them was unusable, and it'd be kind of grown up of Sonic Team to acknowledge their past mistakes and try to correct them (sort of) instead of pretending they never happened.

Basically, Digital Circuit would look awesome in HD and I don't want to see it passed up because the game it's from sucked.

Because previously we were expecting SA2 to be the cut off point, but now they've gone and said the game is set across 3 eras. That said, this game is rated PEGI 3. While I doubt we'll actually see anything ShTH/06 levels, we definitely won't be seeing anything like Westopolis or Crisis City.

I never thought of this til now (if somebody else already did, then excuse me princess!), but why not look to the upcoming Jazwares figures for inspiration? The figures, revealed earlier this year, said outright "Sonic Through Time". Sound like the plot of a certain game we're all discussing?

Anyway, based on the packaging art and badniks I've found these stages referenced:

Sonic 1 - Green Hill Zone

Sonic 2 - Chemical Plant Zone

Sonic Adventure - Speed Highway

Sonic Adventure 2 - City Escape

Sonic Heroes - Seaside Hill

Sonic '06 - Flame Core

Sonic Colors - Planet Wisp

Seaside Hill is already pretty much Green Hill zone. And I don't think they would go for two city levels like that. Should this might reference a few zones but they hardly fit together well.
