Could Orbot/Cubot have been inspired by this?

A cynical and intellectual character with a round head who likes to slack off while working since he doesn't really want to work for his egg-shaped red-colour-themed Boss.

His only "friend" is a Yellow coloured moron the shape of a square who's very slow on catching on and catches floating creatures with a net. This yellow square also have a very annoying voice.

Together they share comedic scenes of various sorts.

Who am I describing here?

Obviously Orbot, Dr. Robotnik, Cubot and Wisps from Sonic Colours right?

Or could it be... Squidward, Mr. Crabs, Spongebob and Jellyfishes from Spongebob Squarepants?

I noticed this a few days back and came to think of it today, Orbot reminds me a lot of Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants, then as I was eating the rest just fell in place. Has anyone else thought of this, think Sega was a little bit inspired when doing this, or is it simply an awesome coincidence? Either way, I'm loving it.

No. Not even close. Not even in the same plane of existence.

While I see the coincidence, I think it's merely that... A coincidence, rather than something intentional. It could be, of course I don't know what the inner-workings of SEGA are, but I think it was just sidekicks inspired from a variety of sources.

If any of Eggman's lackeys were inspired from something, it would be Decoe and Bocoe.

They were obviously inspired by the Nanobots from Jimmy Neutron.

Incidentally, the theme for Jimmy Neutron was sung by Bowling For Soup who also did the theme for Unleashed.

....Holy CRAP.

Where the hell is that screenshot from? blink.gif

Even so, the mechanic of tall/ short idiot sidekicks is nothing new whatsoever.

Also, on an unrelated note Orbot and Cubot are physically impossible.

how high do you even have to BE to think about that

Yeah not seeing the resemblance. Also Squidward isn't red.

Since we're talking about possible odd coincidences here anyway, I'm going to bring up something I noticed here...

Portal 2's ending really reminded me of Sonic Colors' ending.

Main villain gets trapped in space.

Main villain gets trapped in space with annoying robot that doesn't shut up

Annoying robot has the color yellow

Cubot mentioned being in space at some point in Colors right?

Not saying anything was intentional about this, I just always found it amusing.

This is the most ridiciulous, serious inspiration theory I've ever heard. Just... no.

Also Squidward isn't red.

Which I didn't write either.

I just figured they were inspired by the long line of comical help Eggman's had in the cartoon's.

You know Scratch and Grounder, Sleet and Dingo and Decoe and Bocoe although I think Orbot and Cubot are my favorites.

Orbot and Cubot fall into very typical evil hench-men archetypes. They were probably inspiried by nothing more than a desire to see Eggman talking to someone other than Sonic and himself.
