Aliens: Court Marines - "I say we take Sega's money and Nuke the entire IP from orbit..."

Another review. From Kotaku. http://kotaku.com/5983463/aliens-colonial-marines-the-kotaku-review

Gave it a No, saying there's no redeeming qualities to the game.

This really sucks. Why'd it take so many years to make this game when it's turning out this bad? Almost reluctant to pick up my copy tomorrow and ask for my deposit back instead.

CVG's posted a review round-up

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/390592/aliens-colonial-marines-review-round-up/

The scores go from a high 4/5 (the only high score) down to 2.5/10. Ouch...

Our own Svend Joscelyne aka Dreadknux wrote SPOnG's review.

http://spong.com/feature/10110925/Review-Aliens-Colonial-Marines

He gave it

5/10

I've decided I'm not going to buy the game and (try) to get my deposit back. Not a huge loss if I can't, just $5. Given the reviews it's just not sounding like this game will be worth $60, especially for the console versions. I'll pick it up in a couple of weeks after the price inevitibly drops. I am extremely disappointed though.

Here are a couple of funny videos I've seen on Twitter and Facebook this afternoon.

From Game Informer:

Also, interesting notes from Jim Sterling's Twitter:

That good looking demo of Colonial Marines they kept showing at events? Not part of the game. It was entirely contrived, and basically a lie

https://twitter.com/JimSterling/status/301286341998694400

I played Marine-side multiplayer (never let you play Xenos, with good reason it turns out!). They claimed it was alpha...

https://twitter.com/JimSterling/status/301287698273017856

... but if it *was* alpha, it still is, because it feels and plays the same as it did back then.

*reads everything.... sees everything.... blinks rapidly at everything....*

Remember when Sega said that this was going to be one of their key/core franchises that their focus would be on?

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Sega concentrating on its main franchises mean that some games were canceled? Makes me sad we could've had better games than this (that would've meant Bayoneta 2 for all systems *shot and punched by everyone*)

So the Alien walking GIF is that an actual Glitch or is it just a clever mock up? If it is an actual Glitch than my God that is bad! blink.png

I've spent a good five minutes staring at Balding Spider's signature. That Xenomorph walk is oddly enjoyable to watch.

Are we sure this wasn't supposed to be a so-bad-it's-good game? The AI is so moronic that it's quite funny. laugh.png

From what someon has said.

That mission involves you having to stand in the darkness not moving so the alien can't see or hear you. So it just well... goes for a walk. The people defending this game are using that as an excuse...

Because you know, in the movies when they were in those dark corridors, the aliens couldn't see them.... Oh yes, and they always looked like they worked here.

Someone please do a splice of that walking gif with the Ministry of Silly walks.

P.S. Anyone got any funnier topic title suggestions?

I can respect other peoples opinions (well except when they're fucking stupid). I can understand that some people will like things I don't like, and vice versa... But...

EGM... Really... Really... Did you actually play the game before reviewing it?

On an express elevator to otherworldly awesomeness

The first hurdle in this herculean task was to satisfy the Alien fanbase. Colonial Marines is billed as an official piece of series canon, and I’m happy to report that Gearbox has crafted a world that more than lives up to the hype; it’s dripping with fan service in the form of constant reference, re-creation, and respect for the source material that’s easily the best gaming representation of the franchise to date.

From gunplay to co-op-friendly design, the core mechanics are largely spot-on, but more importantly, the various objectives do an incredible job of mixing it up.

thanks largely to some excellent level design and solid alien AI.

you’re looking at a genuinely impressive outing.

I could quote a lot more if I wanted. They gave the game 9/10.

Just look at it, it feels more like a paid advert than a review... in fact the wallpaper image the site is using happens to be a paid advert for the game.

So played the game and now that I came off it, any surprise why I rushed to here? I thought "Surely I'm not the only one seeing how god-awful this game is" and you didn't disappoint SSMB ;)

I loved the Marine Campaign in AVP back in 2010 but this? What is this?

So many scripted FMV sequences, terrible AI, no scare factor, atmosphere = GONE!

After all the time spent on it, how did this get released?

Well, to be fair, when they say the best gaming representation of the franchise to date...

Let's be honest. There haven't been any "amazing" Aliens games (the DS outing was rather mediocre).

Still, I'm so glad I cancelled my preorder of the collector's edition.

You've gotta be fucking kidding me...

You can do this on every stage, except for the ones in which the objectives are to kill a specific target.

... really? You can just walk past everything?

Hilarious though this all may be (because it's the best laugh I've had a in while!) games like this really kind of piss me off. It's objectively bad and broken. Neither the developers or publishers should let titles like this slide, but it happens far too frequently. But it doesn't matter to them, because the game will sell regardless.

The £40 ($60) for this?dry.png

Its a real shame because the previews looked really good and reviews in all the Magazines said that what they saw was really good. So what ever they showed them it probably was more polished than this is. Also they were given more time to polish it so I am really curious to know what Gearbox's and Sega's excuses will be. sleep.png
