Worst Stage in Any Sonic Game

If there's a topic on this, then I'm sorry and this one can be locked.

Now, is there a Sonic stage(from any game) that you all hate so much, that you'll ignore it once you finish it, a stage that causes you to drop F-bombs?

Mines would have to be Final Chase in Sonic Adventure 2. The physics in that stage is just rediculously terrible. It sucks that you travel on those gravity pillar things for the majority of the stage as well. It makes everything feel too slow for me. I got an E rank and never touched it since.

Mine would have to be "The Doom" stage on ShTH. That ish is so confusing and I can NEVER beat that level. EVER. I has to restart my story mode just so I could avoid it.

Both the Shadow the Hedgehog stages that take place in Shadow's memories. And those computer levels are no treat either.

This. And Egg Quarters in SA2. That beetle angers me to this day. Impossible to kill, impossible to avoid attacks, it was a load of bull puckey.

The point is that you stay out of it visual range and hide in the shadows.

Final Fortress on Heroes was pretty damn anger inducing on Team Dark. It was 15 minutes long and there were like, three checkpoints in the entire thing - none of them anywhere near the most lethal hazards.

As said, The Doom and Lost Impact on Shadow are pretty aggrivating, but now I know my way through them it's not so bad. In fact the route through The Doom feels really linear to me now, just with optional side-rooms too (though of course, I refer to the neutral mission route here - good and dark routes take fucking ages regardless). Lost Impact I tolerate because the music and atmosphere of the level is gorgeous. I also find Glyphic Canyon a bit annoying, simply because the way the enemies are laid out means that the Chaos Control is always ready just before the bits that I don't want to skip over (mainly the easy bits where you're just running around the tornados dodging stuff).

What else... Casino Park and Bingo Highway in Heroes are a bit annoying. Great visuals and atmosphere but terrible physics on the pinball sections make them just annoying and frustrating and not fun at all.

In Sonic 2006, Crisis City and Kingdom Valley are a bit overly long to have the final acts be mach speed sections. Especially Crisis City. I was playing hard mode yesterday and the amount of times I got killed by the bloody WHEEL of a car as it sprayed itself all over the screen with their discovery of Havok. Very annoying. Both these stages I gave up on for a while when I failed them the first time.

In the old 2D games I always found Metropolis to be overly long and got bored quickly when I was inexperienced. I also find the whole of the Sandopolis Zone up to the bit in Act 2 where you're escaping from the rising sand REALLY boring and repetitive.

Finally, Death Chamber and Aquatic Mine on SA2 I found to be really boring first time. Took too long.

Sonic 06 has a fair few levels I don't like simply because I get so confused about where I'm going.

Unleashed Adabat because I just hate the laggyness and I just find it the hardest level, I did die on Eggman a fair bit but no where near as much as I did on Adabat. I also find the level very...white? So I find it hard to diffirentiate between things. btw I'm referring to the water sections, the jungle bits were fine.

Any stage that takes more than 15 minutes to find out where the heck you are going. Prime example being The Doom and Lost Impact. I can usually sweep past those stages now, but they're still fucking tedious and annoying.

All stages set on the ARK (apart from Crazy Gadget) in SA2 and ShTH. I just can't see the appeal myself, normally I adore space themed stages like Meteor Herd and Mad Space but why people crave ARK stages that see you running through grey corridor after grey corridor after grey corridor or those terrible 'outside the ARK' stages where you're either grinding forever or jumping from falling object to falling object is beyond me. Eggmanland in Unleashed is a nightmare, I don't mind long and difficult stages but not ones where 90% of the time running fast will see me fly off the edge of the stage. Also, all Werehog stages, shooting and treasure hunting were endlessly more enjoyable than this, Werehog stages felt like an entirely different game modded to have Sonicy graphics, at least shooting and hunting kept Sonic elements in their gameplay.

Jesus Christ, Eggmanland in both versions of Unleashed. The 360 version more so - it was horrifying. Cheap deaths all round, random insta-kill QTEs, and 45 minutes of constant switching between Sonic and Werehog. The Wii version kept it to Sonic, and was surprisingly difficult, but then again, it wasn't nearly as difficult as its HD cousin.

Also, for anyone who hadn't figured out the trick behind it, three words - Carnival Night Zone. Bloody barrel of doom.

Argh, you beat me to it! :P

That barrel haunted my childhood.

Now that I know how to get past it, it all seems so simple... but back then I could never work it out. And as such I never experienced Ice Cap Zone and Launch Base Zone for quite a while.

What is it with that barrel anyway? I figured it out straight away and I was like 4 when I first played Sonic 3.

^ This. Them barrels never caused me problems at all.

I'm no fan of The Doom, but I feel compelled to run to the defence of Digital Circuit. That level's epilep-tastic! And the premise of Shadow the Hedgehog destroying THE INTERNET in support of an alien invasion is just delicious.

My vote for worst stage has to go to any and all of the Tails Skypatrol levels. Child's game my ass.

Space Colony Ark, in ShTH.

I have never given up on a game because of a stage, until that game. It's just impossible to fly that retarded dragon and shoot at the same time, especially when I'm getting shot at. I guess it's because I was trying to do the 100% Evil thing, and the evil mission at SCA was to blow up three of those green things. I kept zipping right past the second one, there were shooting-mechanisms everywhere, all attacking me.

I hated it.

I remember that barrel in Sonic 3, I was like about 5 years old, had the game for a few days and no matter how hard I tried I could never get past it. I thought my cartridge was bugged until a few weeks later one of my regular gaming magazines(think it was GamesMaster or Mean Machines) unveiled how to get past it. They actually had so many people write in asking how to get past it that it got featured in the cheats and tips section. I laughed and couldn't believe how simple it was

I was 14 and still stuck on the barrel, shear random luck or me holding down and realising it went down finally caused me to figure out what to do.

However my most loathsome level would have to be Cosmic Fall. I spent soo long tring to do that level the first time, I just kept failing because the camera would be useless, or Shadow would miss the enemy I was trying to home in on. Plus the fact that the point where you have to wait for the platforms to be in the right position and I have no patiance in these kind of games and just charge :P

All Werehog levels (with the exception of the bosses; the bosses were fun to play), because they're slow, and the lock-on mechanic is frustrating. ST put way too many bottomless pits, and they're all really huge. One misstep and you die. I especially dislike the "Find the Hidden Treasure" in Wii Unleashed where the Werehog must search for 5 silver rings, and they're in random hiding places. You have to defeat every enemy to see if they have one, and break every group of barrels and boxes in the hope of finding one. That actually wouldn't be too bad... if they didn't set a time limit.

Marble Zone Act 3 in the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the Genesis was hell for me. I couldn't get past the falling weights before getting to Eggman (I couldn't judge jump distance or anything), and once I did accidentally pass the weights, I ran straight into the spikes which popped out of nowhere into exsistence on the wall, and I fell back down to the lava. I eventually figured it out, but to this day, it's still the hardest level in the original game for me.

And finally, Secret Rings' Skeleton Dome. The first "Rampage" mission is still hard. Defeating 40 enemies didn't sound so bad... and then I realized I was in the actual "dome", and while there were some enemies, there weren't 40 around, and even then it was hard to get those enemies because of frustrating controls and the irritating camera. After I got those, I couldn't find the others. I happened to get lucky and step on a switch, though, so I knew what to look for. But like I said before, the frustrating controls and irritating camera helped impede my progress. I finished... and then I died by running into a spiked ball because the camera wouldn't let me see it! I had to start the whole process over... and I was so frustrated I quit. Goddammit.

Something I never figured out to do until a long time after I got the game. Dx

After reading the first page, I thought this topic was going to turn into a 'barrel of doom' topic. I struggled with that as well. I think someone should make a topic on that by the way. XD

Anyway, I'm surprised at some of the stages most people listed, especially JezMM's stges. All of the stages you listed besides Lost Impact, I really enjoyed.......Interesting! XD

For the ones that played Shadow the Hedgehog, I thought most of you would choose Cosmic Fall. The camera on that stage is really terrible. It cost me plenty of lives.

Admittidly I don't really HATE any levels. All the ones I listed just have one little problem with them. X3 For example I love Crisis City, but just hate how hard the Mach Speed section is, because it ruins the feeling of a perfect run when I blast through the level then die 4-5 times on the final act due to the random way the cars scatter as they smash the ground.

Crisis City. Even if 70% of the whole game sucks, it's probably the worst stage ever made in a 3D Sonic game.

If I had to choose for a 2D game, maybe Oil Ocean Zone.
