Worst Stage in Any Sonic Game

The worst stage in a Sonic game for me would have to be the boss in SA2 when you are Sonic and you have to fight the EggGolum. I hate the fact that when you jump it does another one straight after. It really pisses me off because when I am going on the ledges on the back of him it does a double jump and I fall off into the quick sand. I also hate the stage in Sonic riders 2 when you are playing as Wave and you are on the snow stage. It is so damn white that you cant see where you are going, so then you find that ypu are either going in the wrong direction or going off the stage.

Sandopolis or whatever Silver's desert level is called. AARRRGGHHH! First off, Silver is so UNGODLY SLOW. He's probably not even as fast as Amy Rose in Sonic Adventure, and 10 times more annoying. The ball, the blasted ball. Make sure you get it to the end of the hall, without dropping it down a hole, and if you hit it too many times it'll cry and run away because it's a pansy. Seriously, that ball ruins it all. Never mind the fact that Silver is already ungodly as it is, he has to roll pansy balls!

By the way, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Mad Space from SA2.

I was surprised about this too.

Although Treasure Hunting in itself is pretty annoying to me and I didn't really like any of the space levels bar Crazy Gadget, this stage stands as the worst stage by far. The selective gravity fields along with the planet controls provided for one of the most irritating moments in controlling a character I've ever had in my gaming experience. The largeness of the level was poorly done, because all they did was take advantage of the space setting spread stuff out and make it a pain to get to. This managed to make the already bad radar system even worse because you can't easily move from one place to the next if misguided (especially on that damn green planet).

I still remember my first playthrough of this awful stage. After an hour and a half of pain my sister and I beat it. But she was left too fustrated to even play the game anymore and I was rendered with a terrible headache. I had to sleep it off immediately. Ahh, good times.

Underground Zone - THAT CLAW. THAT GOD DAMN CLAW.

Play the MS version arhghahragahragrahgh. Sorry I'm a total fanboy for Sonic 2 8-bit and it makes me sad that people haven't even got past the first zone. =(

Dusty Desert (Silver) - That ball puzzle makes Sonic 3's barrel child's play.

Oh god, I forgot all about that one. I've never actually beaten it without using the glitch to get through the door.

In fact, it's probably my favorite treasure hunting stage because I like those pseudo clues. They're easy to figure out, but it's fun to decipher the backwards ones and the ones that tell you not to do something are kind of funny.

Haha, yeah, they made me laugh too. Great fun stage. The controls are messed up but only when you go below the equator of that one round planet. And with so many locations emeralds will only show up there in like 1/5 playthroughs.

Crazy Fuckin Gadget from SA2 comes to my mind. The last part where you have to hit the levers to change the gravity to get to the goal is SO ANNOYING!

And "OF COURSE" (to quote M.Bison) Sonic 06's EVERYTHING, especially Silver's final boss. I STILL

haven't beat him. And I don't plan to anytime soon.

So many Hegdehog's lives lost. (moment of silence for dead hedgehogs)

I think this is more annoying than horrible.

I also have to mention Final Foretress as Team Chaotix. It's the one where you have to find 10 keys.

I believe there aren't too many checkpoints.....so it can be really difficult to A rank.

The problem you have there isn't with the boss, it's with the PAL version of the game(this fault should be non-existant in the NTSC version). By default, PAL versions of games run slower or something and when set to 60Hz the game is supposed to run faster. However, due to some shoddy coding on Sonic Teams behalf the games is sped up in a way that also makes button presses register faster. If you press jump at the right time between frames then the game will think it was pressed twice hence giving you the homing straight off the ground. I think that that may have something to do with the way that the homing attack was changed in Unleashed. For whatever reason, the problem is more present with during the Egg Golem than anywhere else. Places with numerous moving objects have it moreso than others as well. Set the game to 50Hz and IIRC it won't happen.

I'm going to throw the Zoah Colony from Chronicles out there as one of the worst stages. It was pretty, but the area itself was just so small and unexplorable. The NPCs all use the same log of text and after that's exhausted they just resort to saying the same thing over and over. The themselves are unfairly strong in battle (as are the Kron, but atleast their land was fun) and the music... ah, now that a track that could have been awesome. Plus I STILL don't understand how that puzzle works. I've completed it numerous times by choosing random numbers, but it sucks for being so confusing. That last problem is quite a personal one I'm sure. Anyone care to explain how it actually works?

Metropolis Zone. Fuck I hate that level, sometimes I stop playing Sonic 2 when I reach that stage.

I think that only happens to the PAL SA2:B for the GC. The DC PAL version is fine.

I actually haven't had the insta-homing attack glitch in years and I always play on 60hz. In fact, 60hz is the one that mimics the NTSC speed is it not? I thought playing on 50hz mode is what causes the glitch.

What does everyone have against Crazy Gadget? That was my favorite stage in the game (maybe tied with Cannon's Core.) Yes, better than City Escape. I love those gravity puzzles, especially that final tetris-y room.

I think it falsely mimics NTSC speed on 60Hz and that's why the glitch occurs. 50Hz is what it should actually be and what the game is correctly designed for.

My whole family has been stuck on Final Fortress. We've only been able to beat Team Rose's one but for all the others it's nearly impossible. Best example is when you get to the 1st rail in the level, if you hit the controls at all you'll miss it, and it's visually right under you but if you think you have to move the controller to land on it, you'll be just a fraction off and you fall to your doom. Then flying is a pain because at certain spots you have to make a long jump and then fly over otherwise you won't make it if you start flying right away. The worst part about this game is all the rail grinding. Rail Canyon is a horrible version of Sky Rail from SA2.

Those dumb car levels in SA2. WHY DO THEY KEEP PUTTING SONIC IN A CAR!? I cannot beat hard mode. I was lucky enough to beat the don't hit the walls mode but you can't get to the president fast enough. I'm really good at treasure hunting levels, even Mad Space is ok for me, but giving Rouge that Car level was cheep and pointless. Those have to be the worst level EVER!!

Of the old school games Chemical Plant Zone had me stuck for 3 years...or more I'm not sure but I remember getting stuck on those moving blocks that were underwater and it was a pain. Plus I hated that bottomless spike pit in Mystic Cave, it was the only one back in the day and you had to wait a long while to die down there. I've learned to like both of those levels though.

Well, I thought those kart races were tolerable, if not totally worse than Mario's kart games. However, why Tails had a car mode for the Tornado III rather than chase down the president via biplane mode is beyond me. I mean, Sonic could have ridden on the wings and just jump down into the limo and... yeah.

I hated the 'Don't hit the walls' mission so much. It was impossible to do >_<

Speaking of extra missions I could never do Shadow's 3rd radical highway mission where you have to find the lost chao. It took me five years of searching for the mystic melody ruin until I had to resort to looking on youtube. It's in the silliest place imaginable, you wouldn't even think of looking there.

It's simple. Cars are cool. Planes are cool. Plane+Car=OMFG AMAZING. Of course, it would have been nice to have a Sonic Level where you had to find the President's Limo.

-Sonic the hedgehog labyrinth zone and scrap brain act three. i hated the third act because of the boss. When i got to scrap brain act three i was laughing my *** off. And once i took the hard way and it was a pain.

-Security HallDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD:< .I don´t know how to open the stupid boxes aaaargh. And every time i play there is always a emerald there >:(. And i only have four lives because i suck.

Why Sonic Team had to do the Gamecube version it more difficult >___<********.

And 5 MINUTES, when in Pumpkin Hill it costed me like ten minutes to get all the emeralds lol D:

Stupid Rouge..."bah, i will get the emeralds in five minutes :D" YOU (Censored)

The best thing is now i´m stuck with Knuckles too sahbdhdhkdfjkd. Gotta hate those levels.

-the "get 200 rings" mission in Spagonia, PS2 version .___.***. I really got angry with that mission.

-Sandopolis Zone Act. 2. THOSE GHOSTS. THOSE FREAKING ANNOYING SCARY GHOSTS. Oh yeah, there were switches but sometimes i was very slow lol. Special mention at the part where the sand was rising up.

-Every Sonic CD stage?. Okay, not all, but special mention to the pinball boss, wacky workbench, stardust speedway...grrrr.

-I used to hate the casino zones in Sonic Heroes. The second zone the most.

And also with Lost Jungle and the part you have to run away from the frog.

As far as Sonic stages go... can I just say every Sonic Unleashed PS3 level except Eggmanland? That game has some seriously shitty level design, and not just the difficult "arg, I'll eat my controller" type.

If we're talking about the supporting characters though, I have to go with Rouge's Security Hall. I had to beat that level twice (once on Dreamcast and again on Gamecube) and I never want to go near it again. Same with Aquatic Mine, but at least that one doesn't have a horribly constricting time limit and Eggman yelling in your fucking ear to hurry up.

I had noticed that when I played the DC version at a friends house and there was no glitch, but the GC version is basically a port of the DC game justb with a multi-player setting, so I don't thik why there should be that glitch?

It's a port yes, but things have to be changed. The Gamecube hardware is very different to that of a Dreamcast's and therefore much of the technical stuff will be handled in a different way. I think that the problem will arise from it being a very lazy and slapdash port (though addmitedly better SA -> SADX). 60Hz and 50Hz adjust the rate of or number of frames and it's something about the timing between them that results in how soon events are registered. If the frame rate is suffereing, as would happen with a massive enemy that follows the player, then the frames would become more erratic.

I'm no programming guy, but I do know for sure that the hertz effects frames and poor programming by Sonic Team make timings iffy.

Besides what was needed for the game to run on a Cube, no technical changes were made to SA2. It was a Dreamcast game at heart and then ported to the Cube. Sonic 06 was a game designed for both consoles so the technical differences between them are lesser in number and far less obvious.

Are you talking about the safes with the different coloured designs?

And seeing as a lot of people are metioning the pinball levels in Sonic Heroes:

Bingo Highway-A complete bitch to play as Team Sonic/Team Dark because I kept falling down the holes in the slope which are an utter pain when you're trying to get a decent rank. It's also annoying that you have to navigate the pinball machines because that can take a while and strip you of a time bonus.

If you do mean the safes, you open them by digging into the centre of them (with the flashing icon). If there is no flashing icon, the safe is locked, and you need to use the switches in the room above the main area of the level to unlock them. There are three switches in the room with a mini obstacle course leading to each one, and the colour of the "A" "B" "C" block panels in front of each obstacle course tell you what area of the level the switch will unlock the safes in. Unfortunately you need to do this on the fly, as only one colour area of safes can be unlocked at any one time.

Well see that's the main problem. The only reason Tails uses a plane is because Sonic can't fly. Sonic doesn't need a car because the car only went up to 180 MPH (I havn't played those levels in a while so I forgot if they showed the MPH while you're driving.) Even at the end of the cut scene, Sonic jumps into the limo, so WHY would Tails need to drive along the craziest highway on the planet (surrounded by bottomless pits no less) when Sonic just showed up in the limo anyway?

I think the story for that level was that they were both going to see the president, but were going from different places. However the game decided to show that bit of the story from Tails' perspective for the stage instead of Sonic. I can only guess because Sonic's side of the story would have basically been City Escape again.
