Sonic Generations: Special E3 Topic [[UPD: E3 Trailer | 3DS Gameplay] Go watched City Escape Videos]]

Maybe I shouldn't have said the tropes sucked, but more the visual execution of them. But since I DID say tropes, I guess I'll stick to my guns and back up my statement:

Casino, 9 times out of 10, they suck.

Haunted, they all suck and I never want another haunted-mansion stage ever again.

Beachside, Emerald Coast was fun, which other? Oh yeah, none. The only times they're fun is when they make you think "Hey, this is like Emerald Coast".

Tropical, which one?

Jungle, well I did say I LIKED Frog Forest so... Not sure why you're mentioning that.

Canyon, Rail Canyon could barely be classed as a Canyon trope, it was nothing but rails and metal cannons.

Air Ship, once again, said I liked it so, no reason to list it.

Also, you forgot "Future City levels", which also suck.

About Mad Matrix, it was nothing but a headache inducing borefest, I appreciate a stage based on one of my fav. sci-fi movies, but it wasn't fun.

But this is about as off-topic as we can get, we should probably talk about Sonic Generations again.

Wow, people have an issue with reading something when I try to explain myself.

Once again:

I APOLOGIZE, I didn't mean the specific tropes but the visual execution Heroes put on them. The only trope I genuinely hate 100% would be Haunted House and Grid-World.

As I stated I admitted claiming the tropes were bad was dumb, but that I would stick to it for the sake of argument. It's what Heroes did visually to the tropes I didn't like, Hereos did not look classic, it looked obnoxious. Look at the city in the background of Chemical Plant Zone, it looks nothing like Hexagon City did in Grand Metropolis.

I have to admit it and be on Tobbii's side, I disliked the artistic direction Heroes had with its various tropes. Frog Forest, Egg Fleet, and the Special Stages being one of my exceptions that actually were designed in a damn cool way.

EDIT:

Sorry if it pains one of you, but I'm being sincere with this, and being as nice as possible.

Even if you aren't a fan of Heroes' stages, you don't think you'll like them in a gameplay mode of Classic or Modern Sonic? The only thing Heroes about it will be the stage itself, which has some of the most unique and badass stages out there. Bullet Station and Mystic Mansion would just be two levels of an example. I mean, none of the other games that are likely to be represented will have stages close to this theme, making them a unique choice for the anniversary game. I mean, yeah, if they go with Seaside Hill or Grand Metropolis, I'll probably be a little disappointed since we have themes like that already, but Heroes has a stellar choice of levels to be honest.

Soooo what are we suppose to be talking about? Sonic heroes or Sonic generations? I forgot.

Someone said that Sonic Heroes levels shouldn't be in Generations, and we asked why?

And so it began.

I think the thing that hold Heroes artistic direction back were the plasticy graphics. SASAR took the potential of Heroes and made it look amazing.

Of course I would like Heroes stages. I actually want Sonic Heroes as part of Generations.

However, I feel that Bingo Highway and Casino Park were too excessive on visuals. And frankly, It doesn't captivate me as much as Sonic 2's Casino Night, Sonic 3's Carnival Night Zone, or Sonic Adventure's Twinkle Park.

So in the end, the ones that interest me a lot are Frog Forest, Egg Fleet, Final Fortress, and the Special Stage. (Which I personally think is the best Special Stage of them all.)

In fact, I'm quite disappointed that Generations HD isn't going to have Special Stages. They could have gotten the Heroes Special Stages and put 'em there; improved, and in amazing HD graphics with some 3D in the mix.

You know i'd like Sonic's 3D blast special stage with Tails or Knuckles throwing you in there and all.

Also from all the Heroes stages the one i want to see more is Ocean Palace or Rail Canyon.

Sort of related. Brainscratchcomms talked about what they thought of City Escape's gameplay at E3.

They start talking about Generations at 1:13:55. Although I don't get how it's "Mostly the same level". I don't remember loads of alternate paths in City Escape. Most of the level semed original aside from a few areas.

3D Blast's Special Stage were pretty cool too.

Sure you already got what I was trying to do but okay.....So back on Generations topic that was based off of E3 stuff, not level speculation. Anyone find other gameplay videos with different paths that have not been taken in others? Reword that if you have to.

I wouldn't mind something from 3D blast but I'm not sure what would be included that has not been seen in other games.

Totally forgot about the magic that was ASR. Seriously, what Sumo did to SSH, CP and FF in that game is exactly the same as what Sonic Team has done to GHZ and CE in Generations.

Just pointing out some stuff for those who didn't notice:

On topic tho.

I find that Heroes, graphicly, could have been a lot better and more accepted if it wasn't all that bright and somewhat in the open area's like in Seaside Hill or Frog forest.

We can also agree that the stage were well made and nore repetitive but god they were too big thus any stage coulnd be finished in less then 3mins.

For what we saw in the interview of generation, this won't be a problem anymore. Yes the stage are big and yes they may look similar to the previous Sonic games that we played so far but it's all new, made from scratch and it won't take more then 6mins to finish.

The only stage I could accept to take a while to be finished is the last one as it must be a challenging trip to reach Eggman and settle things with an epic fight.

For the 3DS version, it's still in production so I hope that after their done with building up the game with the physics, stage building and scripting everything up, they will boost the graphic so it will look close enough to the PSP graphics or even more.

I also noticed that the 3DS models are all made in low poly so once it smoothed up a bit it'll look nice and clean.

And yes, I want 1 or 2 Sonic Heroes stage to be in generation please.

Add this from a few pages back and we've got a winner:

This could really work for some of us who have to convince others elsewhere that this stage isn't just a "straight tube." >_>

Edit: just add an "s" to Generation and make the image smaller though if you're gonna add make another.

"Sonic Generations". It's plural, Unholy Sonic. My nitpicking aside, thanks for that image.

City Escape even has more alternate paths that have been shown up there in those pics....seriously SEGA seems to be going ALL OUT with this title.

Uh, you don't want to be mixing "alternate paths" with "shortcuts". The top right is just a shortcut, and the two others on the right look like shortcuts too.

Ah, yes thats right.

Thank you for the corerction of the title.

Here are some more alternate paths and even some sort of safe zone during the truck chase part of the stage.

alternategenerations.th.jpg

For now this is all that I found while rewatching the video a dozens of times.

Tho thats just the modern part.

I didn't analyse the other section since I doubt there will be as much alternate path with C.Sonic.

There will, but not as much as M. Sonic thats for sure.

It coincides with my post about the evolution of the Unleashed gameplay. Each of the Classic games were bigger than the previous one. Why? Because they had a better understanding of the Unleashed gameplay's potential and limitations. Sonic Team now has an understanding of wht the gameplay is capable of, what we want, and what not to do.

They have experience with this style which helps get things done faster and allows them to know what to improve on.

Colours, although shorter than Unleashed was better in terms of gameplay. By that I mean, the levels were bigger because of the alternate paths and that they used Unleashed's critisms to know what to expand on. Generations is to Colours, what Colours was to Unleashed. Each game is bigger because it is expanded upon.

So that means that if there was any continuity to Heroes & Shadow the hedgehog, they would be tons better by using only what worked best with their ancestors?

I can't wait for ShtH 2 and SH2!!
