Do you see? Do you see how messed up the second group of people are? They don't HAVE to use the restart function if they don't want to, low self-control aside. Only one group can be harmed here, and that is group 1. If anyone from group 2 is adamant about having the no restart feature in, they are saying that they care nothing about the gaming experience of others, even when the feature in question will not effect them if they don't use it.

...The first group doesn't have to restart either. Hell, you don't have to play the game. You know what you could be doing instead of straining your body, trying to perfect a game- something someone else made? Socialising. Taking a walk in the sun. Do something other than sit down at a computer complaining about the Sonic Team's inability to allow you to play the game you want, and not the way they tell you to.

Food for thought, hm?

I don't know about any of you but, getting S ranks with these restrictions in play will make me feel like a boss! :P

Well I don't have problems with the restart button, I mean I always do the same with games.

First I play through trying to pass the story and all the extras missions(if they exist). When I finally do this I start trying to perfect my scores.

So I get the best of both worlds: I have fun and get good scores(as well as achievements).

I will go with either option if it stays the way it is or sonic team decides to change I will try to get the more fun I can get from generations.

If I'm playing to perfect my score, then I want a fucking restart button. It's only a bother if they get rid of it. When a game has rankings, it's encouraging you to to to perfect your skill. Going back to the main menu and sitting through a loading screen isn't what I call skill. There is absolutely no argument against this.

.... Am I the only one who just wants to play the game for entertainment? I couldn't care if there was a "Restart" button or not. I can see both sides of this debate but I just want to play the game. Ranks are fun to strive to get, but I just want to play the game all the way through first before I even start caring about ranks. Am I the only one?

Hey asshole, it isn't necessary to make everyone who disagrees with you seem like a total idiot. Especially when your own sentence structure is so shitty I can barely understand what you're trying to say.

S Ranking is difficult. That's why actually getting an S rank is a ton of fun. I've spent hours on end memorizing every level in Unleashed so I could get through them without ever getting hit or stopping to achieve the perfect rank. If I make one tiny mistake, even at the very end of the level, I restart and go back to the beginning. It's fun because it's quick and easy. Make a mistake, push a button, try again. Rinse and repeat until perfection is achieved.

This, on the other hand, forces me to go back to the menu every single time I make a mistake, waiting for at least two loading screens before getting to play the level again. It's annoying. And before anyone says "Well you should restart over and over until you can beat it perfectly, then play it again for the S Rank", I need to point out that perfecting a level is difficult, and the chances of a perfect run aren't very high. The chances are even lower when you have to do it twice in a row. This bullshit just makes it needlessly annoying.

Edit:

What's with people acting like this makes it more like the classics? All it does is make you have to go through some menus before restarting. :/

You don't have to be that harsh. He is just saying his opinion.

But yes. I can agree with your last sentence. There are really just some menus before restarting.

It just make it more annoying than challenging. =/

look at it this way blue, it'll make your s rank all the more rewarding if there isn't a restart

Well restarting a stage and losing your S rank, I'm kinda not sure about that yet. Unless it is that easy to S rank a stage in this game. If that is the case than I welcome the change.

So he got a D rank and Sonic still seemed happy about that? Uh okay glad this is just a demo and not the real game. I would expect the D rank pose to be....kinda depressing.

So M sonic has a Idle thing for when he is standing in water? I like that alot.

Now for the next thing....how the game (supposedly) starts. Starting with a C sonic stage...then seeing a cutscene would be kinda neat. But this cutscene better do us some MAJOR justice. Like something like Unleashed did. It's opening scene was jaw dropping.

No comment about the random glitches you found. The random dashpad under the stage.....UH yeah Sega you might wanna catch that before the game releases.

So the 360 can do this too? But at a huge cost. I'll pass. I'll just watch more videos and stuff. I already need to buy a new 360 because it's over heating alot, no use killing it or getting some random dumb ban just because I hacked played with it some. But thanks for that lil info.

I dunno about you, but having to pause the game, scroll down or up, highlight the Restart Button, and press the A or X button to restart the level, wait for the game to load, and start the game anew doesn't require much skill either.

Well, this is sorta old news, if I'm not mistaken. If I remember correctly, every time a person finished a Modern Sonic Level without dying, the score screen showed up, the bar went further to the right, until it reached its limit (A Rank)and then gives you a "Perfect Bonus", which will grant you the S Rank.

I meant later in the game. Like when the stages start to become (somewhat) harder.

I can't believe you people. Let's fucking rage because there isn't an option to restart a level while retaining a rank.

Why? This ALWAYS FUCKING HAPPENS. You are the nitpickiest fanbase in the galaxy. I mean holy shit, I'm sorry there is no restart option with regards to obsessive S-ranking, but it is nothing to argue about. Let's please focus on the positive and not the miniscule negative.

To me, it's not something that I'm bothered by. It's just a change. A unusual change but something that I'll have to get use to. That is if it stays like that in the final product. I don't have a problem restarting the level after I beat it just for an S rank. It gives me a chance to see all what is coming before hand then when I got back, I can just blow through it. Now if it were a gay stage like (insert the majority of the werehog stages and chun nan act 2 or 3) then that's a different story.

Uh, no. I restart because I've made a mistake that's going to prevent me from getting a S-Rank (ie, dying). The whole point of restarting (starting again from the beginning that means) is that the slate is wiped and you try again. It's not like you back to the past checkpoint so you can undo mistakes, you have to play the whole thing again from the start. It's just the same as going to menu, only faster.

I dunno about you, but having to pause the game, scroll down or up, highlight the Restart Button, and press the A or X button to restart the level, wait for the game to load, and start the game anew doesn't require much skill either.

Way to miss the point. If you start the stage from the main menu, you're allowed to get an S rank. But for some reason, restarting the stage the quick way prevents you from getting that. What I said was that starting a stage from the menu falsely implies greater skill.

Perfect bonus =/= S Rank. It's extra points, but doesn't guarantee you get an S.

I never said whether you restart a level or not implies greater skill or not. No offense, but I don't give a fuck about skill. All that I care about is replaying levels, enjoying it in its whole, and not superficially by restarting a level whenever I feel fucking pissed off. If I'm going to finish something, I'd be better off doing it entirely instead of pressing start and restart whenever I feel like it. Just my opinion.

Actually Perfect Bonus is the only way to get an S-Rank. It bumps you up one rank and the bar only goes up to A.

No, kind sir/madam, you are not, then again I though entertainment was the main purpose of video games.

Ok what I don't get is why people are acting like they've removed the restart button. Let me just make sure everyone's on the same page by reminding everyone that the restart button is still there and can still be used practically. The only thing different is it forfeits your perfect bonus because restarting counts as dying and without perfect bonus, you can't get S-Rank. You can still see if you would have gotten an S-Rank. Take my speedrun for example, that was S-Rank material and it was easy to tell that because the rank bar was at max and it said "To next rank: no deaths". So even though I didn't get an S-Rank, I was aware that I had done well enough to earn one and could just pull another run just as good out of my ass if I wanted and S-Rank.

Restart is still useful for:

speedruns

practice

perfecting a stage for an S.

Funny thing is, remember when we first got that 3 minute video that first showed us a bit of GHZ classic and GHZ modern? Well I watched that video recently and in that much older build, the dash panel was in the correct spot.

Do we really have to fight over this guys? It's a video game, there's no reason to act like rabid wolverines over it. Kill the hostility before I kill you all first. In other words cut it out.

On another note get back on topic, too. Restart buttons =! Generations demo assets.
