Heh, this is a very interesting list... Here's my take.

1.) Bosses

Love seeing all those bosses. ^^ Shadow, Metal Sonic, and Silver... first two, not surprising at all. Silver was a bit of a surprise, though. "Time Eater" / "Final Boss" I'm hoping is actually an Eggman creation.

Additionally, we may very well have to fight the rivals multiple times. As for the Egg Dragoon... I don't think it'll be fought as the Werehog. Looks like one Classic Eggman and one Modern Eggman boss battle.

2.) Stages

So, we've got 4 city levels. I don't consider Chemical Plant a "city" level. Crisis City, Rooftop Run, City Escape, and Speed Highway. The actual cities in question I believe are Soleanna New City (not sure if Crisis City is the "New City" or not...), Spogonia, Central City, and Station Square. Fits quite well. I do think there will be differences, though.

A.) City Escape

This is more of a "direct" city level, with you racing through the streets. It also is similar to Empire City.

B.) Speed Highway

I think this will be more of a Highway. The "highway" level in Sonic Adventure 2 is actually Radical Highway, not City Escape. There are differences between Highway levels and City levels, though they can fit into the same basic setting. Lethal Highway vs. Central City and Westopolis in Shadow the Hedgehog is another comparison.

C.) Crisis City

This is probably our "lava" level. As it stands the city is practically a fire/city level, anyway, so this fits well.

D.) Rooftop Run

This one's questionable. Since its Spogonia, though, its mostly running across the rooftops of the city, so that's the primary difference there.

Also, as for the "GHZ-like" levels...

E.) Green Hill

The typical hill/foresty area. Nothing to see here.

F.) Seaside Hill/Ocean Palace

I imagine that this stage is our "water level." It seems to be a watery/ruiny level. However, Sky Sanctuary is more of a "ruin" level than this (though not exactly).

G.) Planet Wisp

This one isn't quite the same. This is likely a more "industrialized" area than the others. Its similar to the typical hill level, but still a lot different. Perhaps they'll add in some forested sections, too.

For the rest...

H.) Chemical Plant

This is far more of an industrialized level than Planet Wisp. It will be very interesting seeing how they translate this stage into 3D. It has some "underwater" sections, but also spinning through pipes and tubes. I don't particularly consider it a city level at all; its closer to an Eggman base, though not quite the same.

I.) Sky Sanctuary

The Angel Island stage for sure (then again, any stage from S3K is on Angel Island, anyway xD). Sky Sanctuary will be a very awesomely epic stage to witness. This is probably more of a "ruiny"/"temple" type of stage.

Notable missing themes:

Ice

Casino/Carnival

Haunted

Those are the primary recurring level themes that appear to be missing from this title. And we're getting a minigame based on Casino Night, anyway.

3.) Characters

I'm not sure what the VS and Coop mean. Here's my guess:

A.) Coop

I think this is like the classic titles where Tails always followed Sonic around, and in Shadow the Hedgehog with most of the characters. That's my theory, anyway.

B.) VS

I don't think this is really a "boss battle" but more like Tails' levels in SA where you have to beat Sonic to the end of the level. Some of them may act like minibosses, though.

This likely isn't the full cast, either; just the "important" plot-based characters to the story, pretty much consisting of all the main characters of the series except the ones who appear as bosses. I'm sure other characters like Big and Omega will still cameo, but these characters play an "important gameplay element." Shadow, Metal Sonic, and Silver, on the other hand, are actually full-fledged boss battles, and don't appear in this mode. I don't know what that means for Classic/Modern Sonic, though. Perhaps all the bosses are the same for both Classic and Modern Sonic.

The "Death Egg" is likely a combination stage and boss. It acts like a boss battle, but you're also traversing the Death Egg just like any other stage, destroying it from the inside out. That's my theory, anyway.

That's all I can think of right now... I still don't think Egg Dragoon is fought as the Werehog, though. Its likely going to be translated into a boss battle for Modern Sonic.

The level list killed any little excitement I had. I mean how weird is that, it's only one of the main selling point of the game.

I don't think any fans we're involved with these picks. Also I never knew Ice cap was so unpopular, best thing theres not even an ice level at all haha. Honestly I am really sad about this. I could take classic sonic gameplay being slightly off because I saw nice little touches and effort everywhere else, but if a team green lits such a list, I can't support that with my money. Guess i'll try the game out for free one way or another

About the holding hands part, since this game has nothing to do with Free Riders, the only stage that woud require such an action is Seaside Hill, since that place had those giant fans that you could use to glide.

I think it was called triangle dive (though now we are not going to have enough "lines" to make a "triangle" :P ).

Oh okay, since you guys find it fitting to not listen to us, how about some strikes? Next person I see to post those popcorn .gifs gets one! Yay!

@ Jaouad: Are you implying it would be impossible for fans to influence any potentially-disappointing list because, somehow, we collectively have our heads on straighter than Sonic Team???

But it has Sky Sanctuary. And Elemental Shields. And Co-op levels. And Boss battles with several different characters. And Team Fucking Chaotix.

Like, I don't get it, am I one of the few people who notices this?

Eh, three out of five ain't bad for me. tongue.gif

Can we please fucking stop with posts like these?

They contribute no value to the discussion what-so-ever and you're seriously not making for any persuasive argument for the whole package apart from the fact that you're happy you got your favorite stage in this game.

Holding hands might be a reference to Chaotix or something, maybe in the heroes level, you get to play with 2 partners as modern Sonic and then with 1 as Classic, controlling like Chaotix?

What if the Metal Sonic boss is in Sky Sanctuary

WHAT IF METAL SONIC GOES SUPER FOR THAT BOSS?

If this happens, well, I don't know exactly what I'll do, but it'll be messy

About the Stage thing, The way i see it the DLC will come in 3 packs:modern, dreamcast and classic. Each will probably have one extra level for each game. I could see them doing that. Guys think it could work that way?

Untrue. The stages in this list are very popular, hence they were chosen. Just because yourself and other people here don't agree doesn't mean that nobody likes it. I know several people who are psyched because of this very same list.

Honestly I am really sad about this. I could take classic sonic gameplay being slightly off because I saw nice little touches and effort everywhere else, but if a team green lits such a list, I can't support that with my money. Guess i'll try the game out for free one way or another

If you don't want to play because the levels you wanted aren't in it, then by all means don't play it. But if you're planning on pirating this, then I'll just say that is quite the dick move. Regardless of what levels they chose to put in it, the effort put into it all is undeniable.

I think too many people confused "celebration of 20 years" with "lots of retro levels in glorious HD, plus some other stuff that came recently" a long time ago. That said, complaints about actual tropes are understandable, especially with the variety that previous Sonic games have had.

For the record, I don't actually find Sky Sanctuary that memorable. Sure, it's great stage, but I'm sad there's no Ice Cap.

Either way, I'm happy with the list. :D

I have to admit while I would of liked some more variety in the stages, I am starting to really warm-up to them. It also seems like they are adding a lot of content, additions to individualize stages, and bringing things back many of us have wanted to see for years. As long as they do a good job at differentiating the stages enough, I can live with it. Also SEGA, there is definite interest in potential DLC for a title like this, so use it as I know I and many a Sonic fan would pay for something like Ice Cap, Lava Reef, Hang Castle, or something like that.

Also LOL @ the Pinball DLC, so that guy who asked about Sonic Spinball representation in that interview GOT HIS WISH!

(and like I said, VS Knuckles in Sky Sanctuary = In Hidden Palace?)
