Sonic Generations : General Hacking Thread

So looking through the assets, it seems cutscene events are numbered as such:

1 SEGA Logo Cutscene (lol)

11 CG Cutscenes

1 Credits (lol)

19 Story Cutscenes [in-Game]

17 NPC Character Cutscenes (likely mini cutscenes before VS or co-op stages)

11 Rival Cutscenes (Oui? There's only three rivals though. However, it could be that miniature in-game cutscenes initiate during the battle, there's an idea)

14 Viewer Cutscenes (I have no idea what this is)

Ocean Palace is really the only thing here that has me excited. I expected Chemical Plant and I'm annoyed by the lack of a Sonic 3 stage. (Poor Carnival Night Zone and Ice Cap).

It's a weird list, to be perfectly honest. In the end, I'll probably love the game anyway, but choosing these stages does a disservice to the franchise as a whole. After 20 years there are more than enough UNIQUE zones to choose from and its just unfortunate that they won't be represented.

The level list killed any little excitement I had. I mean how weird is that, it's only one of the main selling point of the game.

I don't think any fans we're involved with these picks. Also I never knew Ice cap was so unpopular, best thing theres not even an ice level at all haha. Honestly I am really sad about this. I could take classic sonic gameplay being slightly off because I saw nice little touches and effort everywhere else, but if a team green lits such a list, I can't support that with my money. Guess i'll try the game out for free one way or another

Looking at the level list, I'm a bit disappointed yes, but I'm satisfied at the same time, if that makes sense. Green Hill is a gimme, City Escape is iconic, Speed Highway, despite being in a city, is very different from City Escape in terms of aesthetics and design (plus, I love my night time stages), Seaside Hill seems to have been merged with Ocean Palace, so I definitely don't mind seeing it anymore (I had assumed it would only be Seaside Hill, AKA Green Hill again), Crisis City, as Nepenthe (I think?) said in another thread, is like a mix between Speed Highway and Windy Valley on fire. I wanted it in more than Kingdom Valley, honestly (plus, I hate Kingdom Valley's BGM. Crisis City though? Ballin'). Sky Sanctuary will be amazing, Chemical Plant will be amazing, and Planet Wisp will be amazing. Rooftop Run is the only stage I'm genuinely unhappy about; it's not really visually stunning, it's already been seen in the Hedgehog Engine, and it isn't as iconic as Dragon Road was.

Regarding the rest of the leaks, I'm very satisfied with the bosses, happy that each zone gets five acts, as unlike with Colors, there's enough main zones to keep me satisfied, I'm happy to see the elemental shields are returning, and I'm glad we'll be getting DLC.

I'm very, very happy with this game.

This fills my heart with glee. If City Escape music gets leaked then this will be the best day ever. Sorry P&S OST leakage...

Also I find it odd that not a single Eggman base styled level made it into the game (not counting the death egg since its confirmed to be a boss)

Like a few have mentioned before, they might have held the most unique stages back for DLC, so they can make more money. A lot of people wouldn't like that idea, but honestly, I think its brilliant. Sonic Team deserve all the money they earn from this game, and I would be more than happy to pay for more zones.

You wanna know the funny thing? Despite the fact that quite a few people disapprove of some of the level choices, I think you guys will love the game anyway XD Why? Because they recreate the levels with interesting new concepts.

Take City Escape for example. That new skateboard power-up looks like great fun. There's some very nice platforming sections in Classic Sonic, and some nice alternate pathways with Modern Sonic (I actually think they've given us MORE freedom with the Modern Sonic City Escape than with the original SA2 City Escape).

And of course....the truck. Not only has it received some crazy upgrade in the chase scene with Modern Sonic (buzzsaws and rocket boosters anyone?) but it also works as a nice unique twist and obstacle in Classic Sonic's gameplay.

You see, it's stuff like that which could potentially make every level in the game fresh and fun to play.

I knew people were gonna be upset but holy shit people are acting like this is the worst game in the world because of shit like 'they picked Crisis City instead of Kingdom Highway!' Which, I'd argue is because they already picked Sky Sanctuary and Kingdom Valley is too same-y thus they went for the next best thing, but I digress.

I honestly thought there would be more people like me who actually really liked this list, but hey this is the Sonic fanbase right? Always referred to as impossible to please?

Really I think the main complaint that has merit is having no Sonic CD stage, but more people seem to be pissed off at other things. There's still downloadable content.. *shrugs*

How is KV (besides the ruins) Same-y as sky sanctuary? Seaside hill is more similar to GHZ than that is to Sky sanctuary. One is a ruin with water stage with stuff falling apart and is a castle, while the other is just ruins floating in the sky with patches of grass.

Here's the thing about rivals--just because there are only three rival bosses, that does NOT mean there are only three rival bosses. Its very possible (and likely) that they may in fact be fought twice instead of just once. Take this for consideration:

5-6 rival bosses, 11 cutscenes. There would either be 5 bosses (one of them, more likely Silver than Shadow and Metal Sonic, only get 1 boss battle) with 2 cutscenes each, and one additional cutscene for one of the three, or 2 bosses each and just one less cutscene for the three.

NPC cutscenes are probably in HUB worlds.

Honestly, with all these cutscenes I highly doubt the story is actually all that "light," which greatly pleases me. If its light-hearted with some epicness, I won't mind that at all.

Even though I'm harping on the level list I'm not implying personally that I won't like the game. I probably will.

I'm just a whore for aesthetics and there are so many beautiful and unrealized worlds, even iconic ones in Sonic games that aren't used here that I'd just love seeing. Instead half of it is cities, except one is a highway and one is grimdark etc.

Hopefully they do make a lot of DLC.

I'm just speaking for myself here but I'd have Kingdom Valley + Sky Sanctuary over Speed Highway + City Escape any day.

Funny thing is Crisis City isn't really all that iconic last I remember. Kingdom Valley was probably the most exposed Sonic 06 level, even being featured on the front cover, and unlike Crisis City it wouldn't need to suffer from a paradox existence.

"awakes" I knew we'd get some backlash. Not everyone's fave stages would get in. Werehog? meh. Just get rid of the annoying battle theme and I'm okay with him. Roll on November! (and City Escape music too....)

To be honest, that list doesn't look bad at all! They are all going to be re-created with new content in each of them to make it still feel similar but fresh. Also...Crisis City and Planet Wisp with the Hedgehog Engine...WHAT, that is going to be EPIC beyond belief!! Also with the extra missions, leaderboards, red ring hunting, ELEMENTAL SHIELDS, WISPS IN HD and upcoming DLC, I say that this game will make me happy for a very, very long time...well, until the next Sonic game comes out :)

Now...I'll play the waiting game... :(

Yeah this is true. The lack of an ice level is rather disappointing for example. Holoska in Unleashed was (in my opinion) one of the most beautiful stages in the game (the HD version obviously).
