Sonic Generations : General Hacking Thread

It's entirely possible that list would have turned out differently had we known that they were gearing up for an HD remake with only one-level representation for 9 games.

..I don't think it change that much, honestly.

Yeah, it makes sense that people would want to see the more iconic levels. It probaably wouldn't have changed much.

I honestly hope they don't fix that roof-tree. It's such an innocent little problem, it'd make the level all the more memorable for it.

I actully down repped your post when I meant to up rep it. Sorry. :(

Hey guys.

I have an idea to make stupid SEGA do things right with this boring, DULL, and ABSOLUETELY CRAPPY game.

Are you ready?

... Are you absoluetely sure that you're ready for the awesomeness?

Warning: it's awesome.

Let's boycott SEGA by purchasing Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic R.

So, uh... how about those leaks? Has anyone posted this yet?

Japanese translations from top to bottom, left to right: Shadow, Classic, Modern, Modern Tails, Knuckles, Vector, Amy, Cream, Blaze, and Eggman.

I guess these have something to do with the missions.

I disagree. You ask me what my favorite levels in the Sonic series are, and I'm bound to give you tons and tons of answers off the top of my head, many from the same game, some probably from spinoffs no one cares about, and many perhaps with recurring level tropes.

You ask me to choose only one level from each main Sonic game that deserves to be recreated with new level designs on an upcoming HD 360/PS3 game, I'm going to start thinking about things like having actually varied level tropes, what level design gimmicks can be taken advantage of, which levels might deserve more exposure, and even color pallette, and narrowing it down from there. And considering the various topics we've had on this subject, plenty of other people on here were thinking along the same lines because this isn't some casual question, but indicative of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Really, I like Speed Highway as much as the next guy, but I never would have chosen it if asked the latter question. My answer would have been Twinkle Park. Same with Crisis City and Kingdom Valley, or Sky Sanctuary and Hydrocity, or Planet Wisp with Starlight Carnival or Sweet Mountain. I'd have problems with SA2 and probably would have chosen a level depending on what other tropes were already appearing on my list. If I already had a city level, City Escape would have sat out. In the final product, only Chemical Plant and Green Hill are the absolute shoo-ins for me.

Context is everything, and Sega simply didn't provide enough of it for this question to be as meaningful as it's being implied it is. Of course they did it for good reason, but that's irrelevant.

Anyone noticed that TSSZ News took down the spoilers page because there were too many fans ranting of how much the list "sucked"? :P

Out of curiosity: does the code for the demo contain anything that suggests Modern Sonic will be unlocked before it expires?

Huh I wonder if that purple orb icon is a time hole.

THAT is the fucking problem with the FANBASE in the first place. This is why SEGA should have just stuck to the Colors way of doing things and doing shit their own way...when they try to give us any kind of fan service its MASS bitching all around and its not like this fanserive is any where near horrible as Sonic 06 or even Sonic 4.

If Sonic 06 was fanservice than I never want fanservice for Sonic games again.

Mission: Find Omochao's credit card within the time limit.

Game of the year.

Looks are just looks. I just wanna see how they REALLY work on the inside.

As sick and totally sexually depraved as that sounded, that's what I think about Generations.

So they didn't include the levels I thought would work. And?

Twinkle Park may have a rollercoaster, Windy Valley has corkscrews, tornadoes, and such, but Green Hill Zone has no gimmicks whatsoever.

And guess what?

Robotic fish in Green Hill Zone remake in Sonic Generations. :P

Just because these levels seem to be more of the same, certain elements and gimmicks can be added to the design in order to make what those stages already of which people thought were impressive, to later become amazing.

We can have two Green Hill Zones, but if one has a robotic fish, and the other has I dunno, a murderous Bathtub chasing you with lasers and psychic powers all over the place with a slightly different landscape, I could consider it as an entitely different stage.

I'd rather get a game where it has all the levels I don't want, but is just awesomely designed, has amazing music, a good challenge, and most importantly, some good ol' replay value. Imagine if we made SEGA create a game with over more than 5 tropes. It'd turn out pretty bad. No way can you design something so complicated in little time.

Besides, looks really don't matter in this case. I'd say the core gameplay and music matters. And so far, it's pretty fucking awesome.

So yeah. I'm going to enjoy this game, the one some people address to as "Sonic City Adventure", because I've seen that the level design in the game will probably outmatch those of any Sonic game seen before.

EDIT:

I seriously didn't want Seaside Hill, as I personally find it to be a normal level. It's certainly no Frog Forest or Egg Fleet. I'll go ahead and say Radical Highway was unnecessary as well. It still doesn't mean I can't enjoy the game. This is what I mean.

I think the level design will be great. The gameplay is beyond amazing, and the music sounds true blue to its roots, all the way.

It'll be a good game.

As for DLC, I can see it being very active with the community in the future.

Like Scar said a few hours back:

This may actually be part of SEGA's strategy to sell DLC of other stages outside of the disc itself.

Unleashed had level DLC. Even 06 had DLC.

Generations will be full of it.

Casino Night Pinball Mini game confirmed.

Stages?

Maybe Twinkle Park? Maaaaaaaaybe.

Ice Cap? Perhaps.

They've got an opportunity here, and it's plain huge.

I doubt they're going to blow it, because it just looks to me it's some genius marketing strategy from SEGA.

I'm done. :P

I feel so bad arguing with you...because we normally agree on everything :(

Not this time though. Like I said before Generations is a game to celebrate Iconic levels...the most popular ones. The ones that everyone knows...not US as a fanbase but also the GENERAL public.

Go outside and ask someone about Sonic Adventure 2 and I bet they the FIRST thing they will mention is City Escape. <<<< that is what the game is about...not what us SUPER hardcore fans want...its NOT just about that..its EVERYONE wants, even Devs. People are thinking way too much about what they want and not looking at the big picture.

THAT is the fucking problem with the FANBASE in the first place. This is why SEGA should have just stuck to the Colors way of doing things and doing shit their own way...when they try to give us any kind of fan service its MASS bitching all around and its not like this fan service is any where near horrible as Sonic 06 or even Sonic 4.

Its not about Tropes this time it about LEVEL popularity...and with the level we have there is plenty of room to add unique gampeplay elements...give Sonic Team a chance and lets wait for GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE...jeeeezzzz...

Personally, I am fine with whatever opinion people have on the level list as long as they aren't unreasonable about it. I can understand why some people are dissapointed, but it's unavoidable. At the end of the day, there will be a level that someone wants that will not make the cut.
