I think it's dumb to bring out the awesome levels as DLC. I don't know if I'll be able to get them :/ They should've put the more varied levels, like Ice Cap and co, in and made some of these ones DLC.

To be perfectly honest, I'm more interested in what they do with the level design, rather than the level aesthetics they chose. They way they design the level with respect to their gimmick would be a good indication of how future games might play like and what kind of level design we can expect.

Also, the lack of Ice Cap Zone is really weird. They could have literally just made Cool Edge Day Act 4 and slapped "Ice Cap Zone" on it, and people would have been happy. I mean they already have the assets for it (Cool Edge; both day and night, looked visually stunning) so why not exploit them? I mean wtf?

I believe we need to get past the "unvaried" presupposition. Lots of these amazing environments were largely based off of areas with buildings in the background. Not all of them, but the idea that these aren't varied is a pretty shallow jab.

The level architecture and aesthetics (and time of day) change quite a bit after that section. For consistency's sake, can you really see them going with anything else other than the midnight-rush through the big city?

I can understand Exshad's argument, because it kind of makes sense for it to get a bit repetitive.

I will say though that the level list really isn't a make or break for the game if the game features some of the best gameplay, visuals, music, presentation, story, and everything else that the series has ever had; which it's kind of shaping up to be. I don't see why anyone should be any less hyped for the game just because a couple of stages may feature the same secondary trope.

There's more to both levels than the existence of buildings in the backdrop. Heck, you spend more time looking at giant gray and yellow machinery and purple water than the actual buidlings.

A different part of the level. Look, unless they go there at night, we won't be seeing that section.

There's a difference between an industrialized plant and a bustling metropolis. Yes, there are strips of road in there, but you spend a good chunk of time in Chemical Plant on more gray machinery and those rotating blocks. Not to mention submerged in purple chemicals.

We've spent the above few posts debating the similarities. Can you for once focus on the overwhelming differences?

I have been, and that's why I'm happy with the whole list beyond Speed Highway. It's too similar, and to me at least, there ARE NO OVERWHELMING DIFFERENCES. It's too much like the other 4 city levels in a game with 5 CITY LEVELS. And this is coming from a massive Sonic Adventure fan.

Speed Highway was pretty amazing. There was nothing like running through the city with those bright neon lights and platforming around construction work. Also, running down the giant building and riding a helicopter were pretty memorable moments.

The fact of the matter is that Sonic Adventure in general had many great moments. They had to pick one, and Speed Highway managed to win out. I'm happy with the choice. You're not. That's quite alright, but don't say that it's too similar to other city levels when they're in fact fairly different in structure and aesthetics.

But that's my opinion, and I'm entitled to it as much as you are yours. I too love the level, I just think it doesn't belong here this one time.

And again, I'LL reiterate. This is the ONLY level choice that I don't like. The only. In fact, it's the only thing in this ENTIRE leak I don't like. I think I'll live, seriously. But I'm just stating my grievances. Considering how outspokenly happy I've been about every other solitary thing that has been leaked, I think that's fair. And with news that Aaron Webber said some levels are in and some aren't, I'm just hoping maybe, just maybe, we'll get a small change, that's all.

Wait, when and where did he say that?

Anyone here besides me look forward to hearing the new remixes of Speed Highway for both Modern and Classic Sonic?

Truth be told, I'm looking forward to the Crisis City mixes more. Seeing how Jun Senoue would redo the music for M.Sonic, hopefully with more rock, and C.Sonic should be particularly awesome. Speed Highway is already his style.

"Unvaried set of tropes". There's no ice, no mountains, no ruins, no forest, no volcano, no pinball, not even one of Eggman's bases!

But, there are mountains, in Green Hill. And ruins, in Ocean Palace. Possibly no volcano, i dunno they might throw one in somewhere. And there is pinball with the Casino Night minigame. Chemical Plant is an Eggman base, where he makes the Mega Mack in the level.

Only two of the tropes you just mentioned aren't in the game.

Wait, when and where did he say that?

I worded that poorly; apparently, he said some of the list was correct and some of it was incorrect. At this point, he could have been referring to how it said "Bingo Highway" instead of Seaside Hill, but still. My bad. :P

I can remember him replying to a thread on the sega forums relating to the leaked levels list , unfortunately, I can't confirm exactly what it was he said for definite as they're still down, but I'm 95% sure it was along those lines

I'd accept this if City Escape and Crisis City weren't also on the cards. They're all city stages. Two would be fine, three would be tolerable but four is just annoying.

...

I don't care how different they may be, they're still cites that have been chosen at the expense of far more interesting levels.

At this point it really is your problem. I'm sorry, but if you can't trust the developers to blow your mind and add variation for these levels, then I can't take your arguments seriously. Remember when people expected Green Hill Zone to look like Seaside Hill? I think the reveal shut them up. The same will be true when we see every level finally released in HD and in a re-imagined light. You're hating the concept, but you'll most likely love the outcome.

It's simply not the most interesting choice of levels when you consider everything else on offer in older games.

That's up to the opinion of the individual.

Crisis City is as good as a lava stage. It's full of the stuff, and need we have Sonic mention that the whole city is on fire?

Also, FIRE TORNADOES. COME ON, PEOPLE.

Alright, looking through more assets dumps and translating some Japanese (best I can) there is some more specifics, but likely most interesting is a manuscript of how the game should progress at the very begining, and what you need to do to complete it, including cutscene titles. The missions are included else-where, so I will post the interesting bits that happen OUTSIDE of the stages in terms of progression.

GREEN HILL ZONE:

Event 01- White World

Event 02- Restoring Green Hill Zone

Event 03- To Chemical Plant (Chemical Plant is unlocked after this event, though more missions are still available to complete in Green Hill)

COMPLETING missions in Green Hill Zone restore more of Green Hill Zone, and two of them give you something known as, "Boss Keys" which you presumably have to collect a certain amount of to unlock bosses.

CHEMICAL PLANT ZONE:

COMPLETING Classic and Modern Sonic's stages restores half of Chemical Plant each. Once both are restored...

Event 04- Here in the Past (Sky Sanctuary is unlocked after this event, though more missions are still available to complete in Chemical Plant)

COMPLETING missions in Chemical Plant Zone restore more of Chemical Plant Zone, and two of them give you something known as, "Boss Keys" which you presumably have to collect a certain amount of to unlock bosses.

Unfortunately, Sky Sanctuary Zone's information is not complete like the rest of the list, we do get one event for the boss of Death Egg tough.

EVENT ??- After Him! (Checking up on one another)

Making the known events as such:

EVENT 01- White World (Green Hill)

EVENT 02- Restoring Green Hill Zone (Green Hill)

EVENT 03- To Chemical Plant (Green Hill)

EVENT 04- Here in the Past (Chemical Plant)

EVENT ??- After Him! (Checking up on one another)

That could actually be what he was referring to . Hmmm, still interesting though!
