Guys, dont rage yet..there is still DLC! We might get more Stages from the Classic Era via DLC.

My Opinion on the Level-list: Pretty good, cant wait för sky sanctuary zone and Casino Night Zone. As for Seaside Hill or Ocean Palace: F*CK YES, one of my favorite Levels in Heroes makes its HD comeback!

We go from excited to hating SEGA for the level list.

Considering how much work needs to go into the development of each stage, I don't really care. It sounds like a fun game, and that is that. The level selection is good. Sure it could have been better, but I don't give a shit. You want to know why?

Because everyone wants different stages, everyone has different preferences. They can't include every single stage that you want because that would be prepostorous.

Expecting the game to contain your every fantasy is delusional.

That's not even the problem here.

The level list is samey and there's little to no variety. Four city stages. Three basic "nature" stages. The only real standouts in this list are Chemical Plant and Sky Sanctuary.

Yeah no, this list fucking blows.

HOLY CRAP! I wasn't expecting everything to drop into our laps so soon! I guess Sega continue their track record of being unable to keep a secret.

The bosses sound really cool and I'm glad to see Chemical Plant and Sky Sanctuary. It's weird to not see any Sonic CD stages, but I guess Sega wanted to give all three eras equal representation:

Classic - Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3

Adventure - Adventure, Adventure 2, Heroes

Modern - 06, Unleashed, Colors

I wonder where the two will fight Metal Sonic? In Chemical Plant, maybe?

I would be fine for the level list if we didn't repeat level tropes like a mofo. 6 City zones 4 too many. Especailly since they left out other famous tropes that are famous in Sonic titles. An Ice zone like Ice cap? A Lava Trope? A freaking space level trope? That's the most dissipointing part.

They'll have to make them feel really different from one another. I imagine Ocean Palace will be the Water trope, Crisis City the Lava trope, but why Speed Highway or Crisis City when we already have City Escape? Why Planet Wisp when we have Sky Sanctuary? Why Ocean Palace when we have Green Hill?

Okay, okay. I've cooled down, and honestly, I've grown to like it a BIT more. Chemical Plant is industrial, sure, but it isn't EXACTLY a city stage. Speed Highway was also a level I wanted, and can lead into City Escape fairly easily. PLUS, Crisis City can actually be a burning variation of of the 2 other city stages, sorta a cool twist considering how it's a level that's further into the game.

The ONLY thing I hate is the repetition. Green Hill, Seaside Hill, City Escape, Crisis City... they can EASILY make it up to me by doing one thing and one simple thing alone: make Seaside Hill into Ocean Palace. It's a minor fix, but here's why I'd prefer it:

1. Seaside Hill focuses more on the same motifs as Green Hill, whereas Ocean Palace is a more ruins-based level along the lines of Aquatic Ruin from Sonic 2.

2. The music is so much better and unique to me.

3. The naming repetition would definitely be a lot easier on the ears.

4. The level ITSELF looks more like Ocean Palace than Seaside Hill.

Please SEGA, you've got time. I beg of you guys, do this one simple thing and I'll be a happy kid with this list. Really. Hell, Casino Night's coming to DLC, so there's 4 classic levels right there. Don't suck SEGA, you can do it :D

It's pretty simple, but I guess I have to break it down for some folks.

People are saying the list is bad.

The list contains Sky Sanctuary Zone

No list that contains Sky Sanctuary Zone can be bad.

Come on people, let's not get too over the top here. It really isn't worth it.

Putting things in perspective, I am a little disappointed by the final list and its inherent lack of variety or classic throwbacks. However, I am of the opinion that as long as these levels are good and fun to play, then it shouldn't matter so much. Oppurtunities missed? Of course. But it isn't the end of the world. Besides, if anything, DLC says that more levels may be developed that pique our interest, so we could see more variety later on. Of course, the discussion on whether these levels should have been in the game already is another debate.

Why do we have to see the levels to be dissatisfied with the ones that are going to be there? Seriously, if it was confirmed only modern side characters would be making an appearance in the story line, would disappointed Tails and Knuckles fans need to see cutscenes before having that disappointment validated?

Honestly.

Point taken. I, myself, am dissapointed in the lack of Stardust Speedway(The only level that mattered to me). I think people are getting a bit carried away. It seems as if people think that the who game is now gong to suck because of the level list. I understand the dissapointment and there are too many repeated tropes. And too many tropes left out. I would have loved Ice Cap and Lava Reef, if not just for the music.

Honestly, I, personally, really don't care as long as the levels are fun. I feel like a tiny dot of optimism in an ocean of rage.

Genesis? Wonder what that will be? Cannon's Core type thing probably? Although, I expect it will be more like End of the World with going through all the past stages..

And Infomation Pod?

Okay, after...15 years of claiming that Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles are two different games that can interlock, I finally concede. They are indeed one whole game, even if I played Sonic and Knuckles alone at the time it came out. Hey, if SEGA are going with that, I will too.

...I shouldn't be getting such a sadistic kick out of seeing the rumoured list proved true.

That is a pretty dissapointing list... DLC is possible, but still.

At least we have Chemical Plant and Sky Sanctuary, right?

Yeah no, this list fucking blows.

The current list contains fan favorites though. Crisis City is a fan fave (even though Kingdom Valley is better), City Escape is a HUGE fan favorite, Speed Highway is a fan favorite (its the best SA1 stage IMO), Seaside Hill/Ocean Palace are also fan favorites. Chemical Plant Zone and Sky Sanctuary Zone are also fan favorites. Casino Night is obvious really. Rooftop Run was a much-loved stage, as was Planet Wisp (even though Aquarium Park was better). Not sure why they didn't include CD though.

The current selection should be no real surprise actually. Yeah you can hope and wish that more varied stages could have gotten in, but why would interesting stages get in when the overwhelming majority of the fans cite these examples as their favorites.

I too am disappointed by the lack of Kingdom Valley, Lava Reef and Hydrocity, but what can you do. The current selection of levels doesn't make me want the game any less, because regardless of which levels they do put in, its still probably going to be a good game, and will still probably be fun.

More stages will probably be included as DLC.

To be frank, you guys can BAWWW like sheep all you want. I'm looking forward to this game like no other.

EDIT:

Heck, we're lucky we're getting this game at all. Look at what Nintendo did for their gaming icons for their anniversaries....

This fanbase has gotten far to self-entitled.

Eh, I'm over it. 8 out of 9 levels look great to me, as does the DLC, I'm just mad at Seaside Hill beating out Ocean Palace. SEGA can do a swap of those 2 levels, I'm happy with this list. The ??? also could be Doomsday, so yeah, I'm happy :P

I actually am really excited for the game and interested to see what happens. However, I will say that it's a bit disappointing they went for samey stage themes. It's not that I have anything against those stage individually, but you would think someone at SEGA would notice the severe number of city and nature stages and try to use other fan favorites and tropes.

However, still excited.

Eh. With that file size, they have to be pulling something. It wouldn't make sense for the file to be that large with only one feature included.

Maybe its going to lock the classic portion (on July 12th) and open up the modern portion afterward? That sounds way more reasonable.

Yay for being partially right!

And also don't forget that some of these other requested zones could make it in as DLC, its not like there's 0% chance of them being added in eventually.

That makes me curious about future DLC, if for nothing else than because they've had a habit of trying to balance out differing gameplay types with an even number of levels before. It's apparent from the default list that three levels represent each era. So maybe there's two other stages, one Dreamcast and one Modern, hiding out in the wings? I don't know; it'd be a nice thought if they were. x3

And to that I say fuck your Sky Sanctuary if it means the final list, at the very least, has to be filled with so many repeating tropes that it misses out on the spectacle of level variation the series is known for. Seriously. Fuck Sky Sanctuary.
