I think this is a Leaked Stage List--

Recommended Posts

Confirming whole stage list.

Green Hill Zone

Chemical Plant Zone

Sky Sanctuary Zone

Speed Highway

City Escape

Seaside Hill

Crisis City

Rooftop Run

Planet Wisp

DLC

Casino Night Zone

Boss fights

Metal Sonic

Shadow

Silver

"Death Egg"

Perfect Chaos

Egg Dragoon

Boss LastBoss(TimeEater) (That's just what the file calls it.)

Each stage has about 5 acts, they are those stupid shitty ones from Unleashed were you just rescue Chao and such.

Oh and there's going to be a Genesis emulator in the game as well.

Yeah it's a copy paste from somebody from SonicRetro. What do you think?

I don't understand why Sonic 3 goes unrepresented. I know that it and S&K were originally meant to be one game, but they were released as two separate games. They are two separate games, no matter what the intention was, or how it's best to play them.

And besides, it gives them the perfect excuse to include another level from the Mega Drive. It seems weird even including classic Sonic when there are only three levels that come from his era and six from Modern's. And c'mon, ICE CAP ZONE.

Oh and there are far too many City levels there. Where's the environmental variety Sonic games always held so dear?

I'm more upset at the lack of Sonic CD. Collision Chaos would have been perfect for the pinball-type level, but noooooooooo. Sonic CD is just too "obscure" and thus deserves less recognition than Sonic 06.

"Hey guys, Sonic 06 may have sucked, but it's a part of Sonic history! It deserves to be in!"

"Oh, Sonic CD? It's a main series game that was directed by Oshima himself, but it's too obscure. We can do without it."

Imbeciles.

I think it has more to do with it be 3 eras instead of two.

There are 3 levels from Classic Era, 3 levels from the Adventure era, and 3 levels from the Modern era. I doubt they would've intentionally let Classic Sonic get underrepresented that way, especially when each era played differently from each other.

EDIT: That, and I think that we're forgetting that the the Classics only had 3-4 games where as the later ones have over several and therefore there's likely going to be more of them than the Classics. Remember, this game is using levels from each game, so complaining about the modern games dominating is on the verge of completely missing the point as to what the game is suppose to represent.

I was really hoping Ice Cap Zone would have been able to make it into the list. I am happy that Chemical Plant Zone made it in, though! The list seems pretty good, but it could be better.

Not bad. But I'm a bit dissapointed that there are a lot of city levels.

Agreed. It really does seem like it could use a bit more of a variety rather than four whole city type levels.

Hm. Let's think about this.

The stage list is a bit wonky, sure, but there might be kind of a silver lining here: maybe we'll at least get a few more stages as boss arenas. A few of Generations' bosses could theoretically be transplanted into their corresponding stages without a problem, I guess... I mean, Metal Sonic in Chemical Plant would be totally fine, Silver in Crisis City actually makes a lot more sense than any of the places he was actually fought in '06, Speed Highway basically is where Perfect Chaos' boss battle took place and the idea of fighting a rising Death Egg in Sky Sanctuary as the background slowly changes from sky to a starfield is delicious. Relegating Shadow to City Escape or the Egg Dragoon to Rooftop Run really doesn't do much for me, though, considering the exotic settings they were originally fought in, and the 3DS version of Big Arm does seem to have kept its original arena. I guess it could go either way, but it would be cool to see a few more zones get a little representation. If each boss brought its original arena with it, we'd be looking at this:

Metal Sonic: Stardust Speedway

Death Egg: Itself, I guess

Perfect Chaos: Station Square

Shadow: Final Rush

Silver: Soleanna?

Egg Dragoon: Eggmanland/the goddamn centre of the Earth

At the very least that gives CD and the Space Colony ARK some representation and includes a few more Eggman bases than, uh, one.

Copy pasta from the "Hidden Assets" thread.

I'm going to pretend people care and post my own thoughts on each level in the list:

Green Hill Zone - I've honestly never cared for the original Green Hill Zone. The aesthetics have always bored me, and I was never even a fan of the music (it's not bad, I'm just completely neutral on it). Now, this may be because I don't feel much nostalgia toward the stage (the first video game I ever played was Sonic 2, so I'm an Emerald Hill kid), but despite this, I love what they did with it in Generations. It completely reinvents the stage in a brilliant way; you can easily tell it's the same place, but you still want to explore every nook and cranny to see what's new.

Chemical Plant - A gimme, honestly. It's the most popular Sonic 2 stage, and I love the music. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Sky Sanctuary - Another very popular stage with a unique trope. It's a bright, colorful ancient ruin, situated in the sky. Freaking. Boss. I really wanted this stage to be in.

Speed Highway - Another gimme. I expected (and feared) Emerald Coast would make it in, but this is an easy second best in terms of popularity. Would I have preferred Twinkle Park? Yes. Windy Valley? Well... no, but I'll explain that later. Speed Highway is very different from the other City stages present, which is another thing I'll explain later on.

City Escape - If you didn't see this coming, something is wrong with you. I love the original City Escape, and I was looking forward to seeing it redone. As is the case with Green Hill, the aesthetics are very faithful to the original level while still having enough original content to make the level seem fresh.

Seaside Hill - I was initially very unhappy with this choice. Seaside Hill is nothing more than a slightly more tropical Green Hill. That's it. If the level was presented in the same way that Green Hill and City Escape, I would definitely understand the criticism, and I would probably be participating in it as well, honestly. Thankfully, however, they didn't do that. For whatever reason, Sonic Team decided to name the level "Seaside Hill" despite the level seemingly taking far stronger influence from Ocean Palace. Thanks to this, we now have another "ruins level" that interprets the trope very differently than Sky Sanctuary did, as well as a water level. Awesome.

Crisis City - I'll be honest, I can understand why people didn't want another city level in the game, but that never stopped me from always wanting it. xD

I'm sorry to use Nepenthe's own quote against her, but I absolutely love her description of Crisis City. Speed Highway + Windy Valley + ON FIRE = Crisis City. How could you not love that? And the music. I freaking love this stage. *o*

Rooftop Run - This is the only stage I'm really unhappy about. Rooftop Run is pretty bland, and despite being a fun stage, is not a good representative of Unleashed at all. Dragon Road should have gotten this slot; no question about it. To top it all off, the stage is nothing more than a European version of City Escape. Lame. Really lame.

Planet Wisp - Many people seem to forget just how different the design philosophies for Colors and Unleashed were. Colors gave you a simple (very fun, mind you) platforming challenge with a very pretty background. Unleashed, on the other hand, loved to weave you in and out of the background. The stage would also benefit from being reinvented with the Hedgehog Engine.

My problems with the list

- S3&K is considered one game.

- No Hydrocity. D:

- Rooftop Run is a terrible choice.

- It would have liked more stages, but DLC can fix this.

tl;dr - I'm happy with the choice of levels, with the exception of Rooftop Run.

*Prepares for nobody to even read the post*

Seaside Hill is an odd choice - stylistically it's too similar to Green Hill Zone, and there are much better levels in Heroes. Hang Castle, Mystic Mansion or Egg Fleet would have been great and different. The level list just looks a lot like cities and green hills right now.

Um, Green Hill Zone has some pretty big caves? There's the possibility of them adding such tropes to the existing confirmed levels, as well as the much-mentioned DLC route.

And we should all know by now that SEGA adores Seaside Hill for one reason or another, what with the representation in SASASR and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. I don't know why this is, but I'm okay with it.

That's all well and good, I suppose I must concede that you are right there (c'mon Sega, release a bunch of levels in DLC level packs please), but it doesn't address my second point which went unquoted which was the dearth of environmental variety in the level list. Sonic has always been known for hopping between varied locales; so where are the caves here? Where are the ice caps, volcanoes etcetera?

The reason why I didn't comment on the second point was because I think you're absolutely right in the variety.

I was with those who wanted Ice Cap to be in (but instead I get Sky Sanctuary, which is an even more awesome deal for me), and frankly, I I would've wanted other level themes to be represented.

The rant against their being less Classic levels was really the only thing I had a beef with in your post.

Interesting to see Casino Night listed as DLC... I'd quite like to see each era receive a couple of zones as DLC, as that'd allow unrepresented games like Sonic 3 and Sonic CD a chance to be brought to the fore. I'd like it even better if these zones could be slotted in between existing ones so they're not solely accessible from the DLC list; I'd love to play from start to finish every zone released for the game without suffering the annoyance of traipsing through menus.

I don't remember it ever be specifically stated or confirmed that Casino Night Zone was only a pinball mini-game.

Only that there was a screenshot of a pinball game area. Not sure where that came from at all.
