How big is Angel Island exactly?

When I was younger, I just thought it was because the CGI was leagues better than... well, everything in the game in terms of presentation. Almost nothing even resembled what it looked like in game.

For example, when I expected to see this, I got a giant mutant water camel. Ergo, when I expected to see this, I thought I had just gotten this instead.

Yes, it's a stupid assumption that makes little sense, but I'd assume that's what a lot of people thought as well.

^ Yeah, that's what I thought at first too.

Or just general inconsistency between games (just as Peach's Castle and surroundings differ in every Mario game).

Oh, just to ruin people's hope of consistency that Sky Sanctuary's crumbling explained it's absence in SA1, don't forget that Sonic Advance's representation of Angel Island clearly was a set of equally floating ruins, presumebly another area of Sky Sanctuary.
