Saint Nathan 1,273 Posted August 2, 2011 isn't this pretty much what i've been telling people is stupid and annoying as fuck pretty much forever i think it iiiiis Seriously, guys, this was less specific people doing things and more a matter of time. 1 Detective Shadzter reacted to this
Meow 1,304 Posted August 2, 2011 Personally, there is a lot more to the forum than just status updates though. SSMB operated for a long long time without them and we don't need to be so dependent on them to have a good time. If you guys want to keep eachother up to date with random stuff, make a twitter or add each other on facebook. Yes they're all in good fun but in my opinion, they do not make or break the forum. SSMB was always about the community and the discussions first and foremost and I think we can all still be just as sociable and friendly to eachother on the actual forums themselves. Don't get me wrong, I liked the status updates in some regards but I'm also not going to miss them very much. They were just another feature and most definitely not what I, or anyone else really, should be coming to SSMB for . So whether they stay or are actually gone permanently doesn't bother me in the slightest. 4 Detective Shadzter, Trixie the Great, Mollfie and 1 other reacted to this
sonfan1984 2,253 Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) I agree with JezMM, too. It's ashame that everybody else has to be punished cause of some idiots who likes to abuse the statue updates. I post on the statue updates alot more then I post on the forums to take a break from the forums especially when there's nothing new going on. :\ First it's the bland layout from yesterday and now statue updates is disabled on my birthday and now people can't send me birthday wishes. What else can go wrong? -.- Edited August 3, 2011 by sonfan1984 4 TwoTailedFox, Raxz, Uraraka and 1 other reacted to this
Swiss 1,641 Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) Well, I'm not overly fussed as it's a good idea to give the staff a break for a few days. People leaving because of the status updates situation is a bit OTT. People leaving because of all the bad new members that have joined recently, on the other hand, is understandable. I just tend to ignore them, but they are getting out of control for some people it seems. I know this might be a long shot, but would granting certain members some sort of 'Vet' status (giving them access to more things on the forum) be an idea? I mean, give it to people when they can be completely trusted not to spam/troll/annoy anyone. Works for Minecraft! :3 Edited August 2, 2011 by Swiss With A Shotgun 2 Sami and azoo reacted to this
Nepenthe 37,089 Posted August 2, 2011 I'm partly responsible for reporting said member, and I apologize if that aided in any of the decisions made. However, I wasn't particularly perturbed by his opinions so much as he seemed to be spamming the entire status box and members slowly began to respond harshly to him, asking him to be banned. I really didn't figure there would be any harm in reporting that. In the end though, I don't mind the prohibition of status updates. It was a nice feature, but without any moderation controls this was bound to happen sooner or later with all of the crap that had been happening. If nothing else, it should be an incentive for everyone to get their act together and be on their best behavior if they so desire it back. 3 Ferno, Spooky Mulder and BlazingTales reacted to this
Spooky Mulder 2,001 Posted August 2, 2011 I liked the status updates (for the most part, that is) but I understand why they've been temporarily disabled. I guess the problem is that I have agree with Blue Blood, in the past few months the entire tone of the forum has just completely changed and the status updates were merely a symptom of whatever it is that's ailing the forum. I don't know what has caused this change or what can even be done about it. I plan on sticking around here for a long time because I like the members here, but if some of the board's key members start leaving because the conversations here just aren't as intelligent as they used to be, I'd probably find myself drifting away as well... 1 BlazingTales reacted to this
King Frosty 645 Posted August 2, 2011 Alright. I get the big picture and I'm fine with it. So I agree with JezMM. But one of the things I don't get are the comments on the last status update. :/
azoo 14,497 Posted August 2, 2011 Well, locking the status updates feature is only addressing part of the problem. Like I said a day or two ago, the atmosphere here has changed dramatically over the past few months- it's become a lot more childish, immature and to be blunt, many people are just being plain stupid. It's really annoying now, to the point of SSMB not feeling like the board it was only a short while ago. Rules aren't being explicitly broken very much (beyond the countless amount of spam) but I still feel something should be done. Status updates have been part of the problem but there's still a lot more that needs to get fixed. SSMB is becoming an unpleasant forum for mature but lighthearted socialising. 7 Silverfang, Spooky Mulder, Vertekins and 4 others reacted to this
Cola 3,389 Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) This SSMB... It isn't the one I joined. It hasn't felt right lately. Like Blue Blood said, it's less a place of mature discussion, and more like the SEGA forums 2.0. The atmosphere is heavy, everyone is down. Everyone is mad. The mods are mad because everyone's kinda overreacting to the somewhat annoying, 500 a minute statuses from a certian member. You don't like his posts? Just leave him alone. Flaming is immature and not the way to go. I learned that the hard way a while back. The statuses are being abused. Overused Memes run rampant. As do complaints. The way I see it, they should be used to share some experiences from your life, some knowledge, and some laughter. And the comments on the last status are just inflammatory. I expected better from you, the mods. So yeah, until things are looking up, I'm going to have to take a leave of absence. That doesn't mean I won't be lurking, though. Just... no activity from me. Stay gold, SSMB. Edited August 2, 2011 by Cola 5 Blue Blood, Trixie the Great, Silverfang and 2 others reacted to this

KHCast 13,091 Posted August 2, 2011 The SSMB nowadays Don't feel like they used to. Actually we're starting to become like certain other forums(i won't say names). It's sad, why do we have to act like kids when before we acted civilized and mature? I've actually noticed ever since generations was announced, The sega forums being closed and the demo leaked It's gotten WAY worse. I wish it didn't have to come to this but hopefully the status bar will return along with the sanity of some people. 2 Cola and King Frosty reacted to this
Sami 10,800 Posted August 2, 2011 I'm moving to Retro indefinitely. At least with Sonic discussion. The Chit Chat and Computer Games sections are fine, but I'm not going back into the Sonic sections until things get less stupid. This was the straw that broke the camel's back. If you're on my friend's list If you're a mature, rational human being, add me on Skype. There's a reason I have more than 800 posts; for a long time, this was my favorite website. My Skype name is Darksonic24. Just let me know who you are in the friend request. I'm just sad that I haven't even been here for a year yet. 5 azoo, Blue Blood, MykonosFan and 2 others reacted to this
King Frosty 645 Posted August 2, 2011 Yeah. I'm with Azu and Cola on this one. I think I'll just wander the internet for a bit or just stay at Sega and apply for Retro until things get back to normal. I'll still come for news though. So Till we meet again SSMB. Meow 1,304 Posted August 2, 2011 The only thing about this that I dont understand is why are people all leaving/abandoning the problem when wouldn't it make more sense to lead by example and do all in your power to try and fix what you don't like by following the rules, reporting, and making sure to make the discussions you want to see? I am not saying that anyone isn't justified in their reasons to leave but if everyone who feels this strongly about SSMB not feeling how it used to is moving on/waiting for it all to blow over then how is that properly going to help SSMB go back to the way it was/change to something better? Just food for thought I guess. Sad to see people go in any case! 9 Pelly <3's U, Sion-Ta, Noir and 6 others reacted to this
azoo 14,497 Posted August 2, 2011 Like I said, I'm not going indefinitely. I'm just gonna be here once a day now, most likely. I'd love to help makes things better around here, and make this a place worth going to again. Just don't know how I can help with that at the moment. redhellc 290 Posted August 2, 2011 I have kinda recently joined the forum, but I've been reading it for sometime now and I think that like some other members do that the forum indeed as changed a bit. I just hope I'm not make it worse, I always try not to upset somebody and if I did I promised I will try to be better. 1 Gaming Misfit reacted to this
Mollfie 622 Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) I've said this already to a few people, so I'll say it here too. Yeah the forum has been quieter in some places, and stupid in others. But to combat that you could just ignore stupid posts and make your own decent topics and replies. You could be a good member and keep things going, if you wanted to. I don't venture into the Sonic Discussion area so much so I don't see a lot of the silly posts etc, although I am aware of them. I just don't want to get involved with it. Not that it's the only area that suffers silly posts, other areas have seen them too as have the status updates. Rather than leaving I would rather stick it out and hopefully things will improve. The mods and other staff work really hard and I would feel bad just abandoning ship. I've been a member for about 2 years now, and I don't plan of leaving any time soon. KHCast 13,091 Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) People have been trying to lead by example for a while now and nothing's working. I think it's fair to say that folk are just fed up. This, So many try to be the ones that clean up but others just come and mess the place up again. People just need a break for awhile to calm down. Sonic was the reason I came here. I hope that there is a way I can help at this point but I don't see that coming. Blue If anyone You've set the best example I've seen on this Board so far and for that I thank you. Remember a post I made awhile ago about us being like a family? I still hold to that even to this day. we all just need some fresh air. Meow 1,304 Posted August 2, 2011 People have been trying to lead by example for a while now and nothing's working. I think it's fair to say that folk are just fed up. Like I said, not saying that the reasons for people leaving aren't justified. I have noticed a shift too and its been a long time since I have actually posted in a major discussion around here. But mostly too that is just because I am not as into the nitty gritty stuff about Sonic anymore and just prefer to sit back and enjoy things on my own merits. I'm not trying to blame everyone for feeling the way they do and not trying to make anyone out to be the bad guy. It is just disappointing to see so many people give up is all! But I do have to add, if people are fed up, then would it have also not made sense to formally address this via a site suggestion or something? You can direct me to such a topic if I am wrong (and I'm okay with being corrected on this, trust me ) but I haven't seen anyone openly express these concerns with a topic solely dedicated to this problem before now. I know there have been places where people have maybe slipped it in here and there but if a large majority of people felt this way it would have made sense to propose perhaps things that would help make this place more respectable? I am trying not to blame anyone here, and I apologize if it comes off that way. I am just making a point that with all the discontent feelings around here perhaps maybe more could have been done to bring this issue to the top sooner (and in one central place) than have it all come crashing down on the boards when something dramatic like this happens. 1 DanJ86 reacted to this
eXtaticus 512 Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) I allegedly abuse the PM system = I get banned from using the PM system. Some other mong abuses the Status Updates = EVERYONE gets banned from using the Status Updates. Just saying. In fact, my PM abilities and the Status Updates should come back at around the same time; they're both suspended "indefinitely", after all... EDIT: And - unlike a sizeable number of other users - I'm sure as hell not leaving. Oh, no such luck...
