Zones we hate

The outside zone, I've never been there but I know it's a horrible place where a giant yellow ball burns your flesh off.

Those rail lasers... were you people really switching to other rails like the game told you? Because the right way to do it is to use flying formation...

Metropolis Zone. Man, do I hate Metropolis Zone. By far my least favorite. Everything about that level just annoys me to no end, especially those damn Slicers.

It also doesn't help that it was the only zone in Sonic 2 with three acts.

Death Egg Zone: Sonic 2: I could never complete Sonic 2 until recently because of this no-rings personal nightmare(note, I do not blame the game, but my sometimes lackluster skill at the classics)! Funny thing is, the easiest thing in all the classics for me is getting the emeralds, but that does not help me in this zone......

Sonic 3: Carnival Night Zone: Do I really need to say why?(hint:Barrel.)

Sonic 06: End OF The World: Now, I hate Sonic 06 In general(and that includes all levels), but I hate End Of The World the most because you have to go through this very hard and long level, on top of the controls and camera NOT WORKING ANYWAY, just makes it a absolute pain for me.

Sonic Unleashed; Eggmanland: Now, I have a love-hate relationship with this level. I love it because Sonic's sections have the best platforming (with sonic, at least) in the game, and the first Sonic section (if you don't take the level skipping rail shortcut)also has the most alternate routes. But unfortunately, the bad far outweighs the good, for as we know, it is insanely hard and long(even in Sonic's sections), and drags on forever, especially the werehog sections. Still, I find myself braving this level often just because of those Sonic sections.....

Well, that's about it. If I can enjoy the game and how it plays, I often don't hate the levels themselves(unless they really drive me crazy, like these four) ,so my list is kinds short.

Wow, how could I have neglected to mention Eggmanland HD?

Wouldn't have been so obnoxious a level if the Sonic and Werehog gameplay were separate levels a la the Wii version. The combined gameplay makes the level far, far too long and, with the Werehog included, particularly tedious.

Oh dear, Lol when I went through Eggmanland the first time, game over pretty quickly. Was like "Not like I went far so whatever"

Either the second or third time, 40 minutes in. Forty minutes. Just like ten more and I would have been done. I lost. So angry my arms were shaking, no joke.

So I was playing through Sonic 1 for about the 4th time yesterday. My friend let me borrow Mega Collection a long time ago and this is pretty much how it goes for me:

Green Hill= Awesome

Marble Zone = I won't lie, I actually had a lot of trouble with Marble Zone. Went through it so many times its now in my head. I don't even know why. I just suck, lol.

Springyard = Peace of cake

Then I see Zone 4: Labyrinth Zone. This is the farthest I've ever gone on Sonic 1, and in my years of being on a Sonic forum, I know its one of the most hated zones. To be honest, I thought it was pretty easy, was like "But this is awesome! D8" then I go to battle Eggman.

What the fuck.

A narrow little.. five inch tunnel thing with spikes coming out on every edge and fireballs being thrown at you. How the heck was I supposed to pass that? xD

Personally I like that it's so long, makes it epic feeling. It's just that it's nastily designed with ugly framedrops...

Labyrinth Zone. After the far greater quantity of minutes than all preceding zones in Sonic 1 thus far, that it took to complete this zone, filled with platforms that jettison me into spikes on ceilings, booby trapped areas that are literally impossible to traverse without inflicting damage upon myself, a soundtrack that becomes exponentially more obnoxious with each passing second, and air bubbles that emerge from the floor exactly half of one second after I have already drowned, I breathed a hearty and reassuring sigh of relief as I venture on to what happens to be one of my favorite zones, the Star Light Zone.

Empire City. The only way this level can be fun is if you like falling into bottomless pits on a regular basis.

Or if you get good at it.

After playing SA2 again, I'd like to add Pumpkin Hill to my list. It's extremely huge and open and emerald hunting in it is a chore. The hints are useless as well, since a lot of the time, they merely point out the general location of an emerald, and Pumpkin Hill has a LOT of hiding places for emeralds. Oh, and the soundtrack is ear-bleeding.

Correction; "Or if you learn where everything is placed off by heart." Sonic Unleashed isn't a game you play, it's a game you learn. Half of the enjoyment in Unleashed is learning where everything is and what's happening next. That isn't fun.

Marble Garden: Long-winded, too drawn-out, and behaves more like a boring maze than an actual level.

Carnival Night (Sonic [& Tails] only): Same reasons as above, and the DAMN barrel doesn't help, either.

Launch Base, Act 2 (Sonic [& Tails] only): One mazy, long-winded, neverending level. Zigzagging and its overly glitchy mechanics when playing as Super Tails doesn't help, either.

Death Egg Zone: The gravity controls are fine, but the automated "woop-woop-woop" looping is just tiring and long-winded. It's much better controlling it than being in it.

Casinopolis (as Sonic): YUCK! I love Adventure, but I absolutely hate this sandbox level. Too repetitive and tiring. WORSE than Mad Space! Give me the treasure hunting gameplay of Casinopolis any day of the week!

Mad Space: Bad gravity controls and very linear progression of ascending in this level. A shame, too, because the treasure hunting gameplay is better than the speed gameplay in SA2.

The Doom: One of the worst Sonic-'verse levels I've ever played. It's like Marble Garden in 3D form.

lol I love that; "avoid Unleashed's main game mechanic and you'll be alright."

I'll go through this methodically.

Sonic 1 (8-bit):

Bridge Act 2, because of the moving screen; Jungle Act 2, because of the rising bottom of the screen as you ascend the waterfall; and Sky Base, for just being maddeningly difficult.

Sonic 1 (16-bit):

Labyrinth, easily, if only for the boss.

Sonic 2 (8-bit):

Just about every zone, really. This game was ridiculously hard, especially the bosses.

Sonic 2 (16-bit):

Metropolis, mostly because of enemy placement, the length of each act, and the fact that there's three of them. The boss is also, in my opinion, the hardest in the game. I personally find the final boss very easy.

Sonic CD:

Wacky Workbench, definitely, since this is just such an infuriating level, and Stardust Speedway, because the level itself is confusing to navigate and Metal Sonic is a pretty frustrating boss.

Sonic Choas:

Aqua Planet is pretty frustrating, but Electric Egg is my least favourite. I don't think I ever did beat the final boss.

Sonic Spinball:

Everything, really, except Toxic Caves and the bonus stages.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles:

None. I don't hate any of the levels.

Sonic 3D:

Pretty much all of them, really. Though I hold a special contempt for Spring Stadium and Volcano Valley.

Sonic R:

None in particular stand out as really horrible levels. And I actually like the music in that game... though not much else.

Sonic Adventure:

All of Big's levels and all of Knuckles's levels. I really don't think Sonic Team got the treasure hunting mechanic down until the sequel. I don't much care for Tails's or E-102 Gamma's levels either.

Sonic Adventure 2:

Aquatic Mine, which, even after getting the Air Necklace, can be long and tedious. Death Chamber, which is another potentially long and tedious level. Meteor Herd, which the lyrics pretty much summarise: “don't get hit, keep moving”. Crazy Gadget, because of the poor gravity mechanics. Egg Quarters, for much the same reason as Death Chamber, plus the annoying guard robot. Security Hall, because timed missions suck. Mad Space, which is potentially long and tedious and has poor gravity mechanics.

Sonic Advance:

None really stick out to me as terrible levels.

Sonic Advance 2:

I think I only played this game once and I don't remember any of the levels well enough to say whether or not I hated them.

Sonic Heroes:

Casino Park and Bingo Highway are pretty annoying, as are Egg Fleet and Final Fortress. So many falls to one's death.

Sonic Rush:

I don't much care for Night Carnival or Altitude Limit.

Shadow the Hedgehog:

Any flashback level involving Maria, the Tron levels, and Cosmic Fall.

Sonic 06:

The entire game, but Crisis City and the jungle level (whatever it's called) especially. I got no further than the jungle level and I've never felt inclined to try again.

Sonic Rush Adventure:

None really spring to mind as hated levels, although travelling by submarine always annoyed me.

At about this point, my following of the Sonic franchise really starts to fade. I just don't care enough about the more recent games to even remember what the levels are called, to say nothing of having strong opinions of them either way.

Crazy Gadget, because of the poor gravity mechanics.

I was about to post how surprised I was that no one posted this level.

Crazy Gadget.... >_> I sunk SO many lives going through that train wreck level of a level.

Marble Zone, Metropolis, and Wacky Workbench also get my hate as well.

I haven't gotten to Eggmanland in Unleashed yet, but I'm interested....

OH MAN. Totally forgot how much of a train-wreck this stage is. Took me 45 MINUTES to complete. I think it's safe to say I won't be returning to it any time soon!

I loved Crazy Gadget.

A level I hate... Arid Sands. That level just bores and frustrates me.

From all the Sonic Games i played these two are my nightmare.

And you literally can't take a step without getting stabbed by green spikes.

Not to mention small organisms that stick on to your skin and damage you no matter what, even if you have rings.

XD All reality aside, why did I go through this entire topic and see Rail Canyon throughout the entire list?

Oh, and skip to 0:26 to see why I hate it.
