While cleary not as fast as Unleashed at all, the giant glass corscrews in Night Palace of SatSR has always been one one of the fastest seeming moments. I mean you really were just launched though this room that was the very epitome of fantasy and then you watched Sonic speed off while the camera held still for a moment. Fantastic.

I cant really say that any of the games have felt fast all the way through. People keep saying unleashed is the fastest feeling but I have one counter point, the Werehog. As for specific levels I'd say Chemical plant and alot of the day stages in unleashed were really fast paced

I think people are saying that for what was there, Unleashed felt fastest. I seriously can't argue with that'n. It was FAST!

...This topic makes me realize that somehow I have gone through my whole life never quite understanding just what the hell Blast Processing was. At least I could notice a significant speed upgrade in the 16-bit sequels following Sonic 1, so I guess that's what counts.

Fastest "feeling", eh?

Well, while not as fast as Unleashed or Rush technically, both Secret Rings and Sonic Advance 2 (along with some moments in the classics) managed to feel faster at times.

Especially Secret Rings. Lvl. 99 + Crest of Wind + Leviated Ruin = HOLY CRAP.

Unleashed and Rush had the BETTER feeling of being fast though. Rather than just watching Sonic run or roll, they intregate speed itself into the gameplay. Don't really know which I like more. Rush has the trick system and all, but Unleashed has more elements used in basic running...

Sonic Rush.

The levels aren't as fast as Unleashed's daytime stages, but talking about games as a whole rather than just elements of them, Sonic Rush is unarguably the most consistently fast Sonic game. No Werehog, no Labyrinth Zone, and no hub worlds (well, apart from the two or three seconds it takes navigating the map screen), it's just pure speed.

Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Unleashed (360/PS3) for me. I just love the fast feeling from them.

For me it was Chemical Plant in Sonic 2, back in the day i was blown away by how fast it moved.

These days its Unleashed and SATSR. I would say the speed bits in Sonic 06 but the game was a bit crap so I'm going ofr SATSR since i had more fun playing that.

Depends on how you define it, really.

Some of the speedy sections in the classic games definitely felt very fast and action-y. It's fun to watch Sonic slam through some obstacles for a few seconds, curling into a ball to smash through the course.

Sonic Rush and Advance 2 also felt fast, but that was mostly just running. I like Rush, but hate Advance 2; as much as Sonic Rush relied on pure speed, Advance 2 did this much more.

Sonic 2006's Mach Speed sections were great for the feeling of speed, and some of the situations like the Wave Ocean chase with the Egg Carrier really get you pumped for the "mission" you have to accomplish. I think it would've been even better if Sonic kept his "actiony" moves like the Homing Attack during these.

And pretty much all of Sonic's gameplay in Unleashed. It's fun to blast through a stage with the boost once you know the layout, although I don't like the boost itself.

Well...hands down THE fastest feeling Sonic game is definitely Sonic Unleashed for me. Maybe it was done in a cheap way with the Sonic boost, but it got the job done.

Obviously Sonic Unleashed (360/PS3).

And here's probably the fastest speed run of Windmill Isle Act 2 I've ever seen:

Watch it in High Quality and full screen. Your eyes will bleed.

I would have to say Sonic Unleashed (360). The boost button was one of the greatest things in that game. Sonic Rush and Riders also felt fast but Sonic Unleashed definetly is on top.

For me, the boost button was a pointless addition; a ploy, in fact, to lure people away from the discovery of the fact that, beneath the silvery surface, is a game riddled with glitches and loopholes.

My fastest moments were in the appropriately Speed Highway, Sonic Adventure. All who say that the Adventure series consisted of nothing but laborious platforming tripe can kiss my ass. I will bend over if nessasary.

Speaking logically, Sonic CD seems the fastest. You need a great amount of speed to break the time barrier, which also means going faster than the speed of light (or buy a flux capacitor and doloran).

Though speaking in terms of gameplay I'd have to say Unleashed (SRZG coming in a close second). The blur effect given to the surrounding area increases the sense of speed even more, and really gives the impression of going hundreds of miles per hour. Add that to the fact when Sonic is suddenly halted the screen's blur is seen quickly catching up to the point where everything is clearly visible (this is like a 3D version of the Chemical Plant zone where the screen has to play catch up).

As for SRZG, when you enable the gravity shift the onscreen effects, just like Unleashed, give an impression of going miles per hour in seconds.

Unleashed HD no doubt.

Honourable mentions ,with speed segments: Sonic 1 has Green Hill, Spring Yard and Star Light zone. Sonic 2 has Chemical Plant, Casino Zone, Sonic 3 has Hidrocity and Ice Cap, S&K has Flying Battery and Sandopolis at parts. Also the Blue Sphere bonus stage when it gets faster and faster. SA has the Emerald Coast, Windy Valley and Speed Highway. Every Sonic level last mission for SA as well. SA2 has it in every Sonic or Shadow level, especially the final level for each.

Doomsday does give the feeling, along with SA Perfect Chaos. Someone mentioned the peel out from Sonic CD and I agree as well, Sonic goes form 0 to top speed and not in ball form and the time jump as well. Shadow in SA2 especially gives a very high feeling of quickness, I think it's because he skates and it's very fluid.

I have to disagree. What about the shitty enemy room sections? Sonic Rush Adventure felt far faster imo, despite the sailing stuff, some of that was pretty fast paced, but I felt the levels in Rush Adventure had way more flow. Then again I found the first Sonic Rush to be pretty overrated, but meh. The slowest stage in SRA is either Haunted Ship or Sky Babylon, and that's only because of extra platforming, rather than a loss in speed, whereas by Rush standards, Mirage Road is pretty slow.

Other than that Unleashed seems to, Sonic CD sometimes does (Collision Chaos and Stardust Speedway), the Adventure games at times (Speed Highway, Final Rush, City Escape), I guess it's more based on certain levels than throughout, though Shadow has a few odd contenders - get a good run through Lethal Highway and GUN Fortress and see what I mean. It's challenging to not get hit several times, but when you do, it's a blast.

I think unleashed was fast but too fast and made it feel like a racing game mybe because it had the sliding.

Though what seems to me the fastest is the Sonic the hedgehog 1 (megadrive) prototype

and according to Yuji Naka it gave him "motion sickness."

*watches Dr Sega Monkey's video link, with mouth gaping wide open* ...... OoO

What's the difference between a fast Sonic Unleashed 360/PS3 and a fast Sonic Unleashed Wii? GRAFIX!

Ahem, for me the fastest was..no, not Unleashed. I own the Wii version only , and after seeing that speed run video, I'm not counting it! ;_;

Instead, I'll just go for the Sonic Rush games. They're speedy as hell, especially Rush Adventure (well, the stages are anyway)!

SA2 can get pretty fast paced too, especially with Shadow. Because you know his skating kicks arse, especially when he goes down a steep hill. *points at Radical Highway* >w<

I wish SEGA could have kept it as fast as it originally was, and not have changed it to become slower. It would be harder to play, but it'd be loads more fun IMO.

Definetely the Rush games! The first time I played Rush 1 when I got my DS I could barely keep up with it! It was a great experience!
