Sonic Jam, unfortunately for most Saturn owners at the time, was not the brand new Sonic game that everybody had hoped for. Instead, it was a CD, which contained four of the best Mega Drive Sonic games on it. You may be thinking, 'What's the point?'
Well, much is Sega's trait, they don't just leave it as a pointless compilation of Sonic games, although this is what most Saturn owners had pined for their old Sonic games back again, they'd rather have a disk that had an extra incentive to actually be worth buying.
Which is where Sonic Jam comes in. Not only does it give you Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Knuckles, but you can do the link-up thing with S&K;, gain secrets by completing the games, and there's even a 3D world, filled with Sonic goodness.
Sonic World
The biggest addition to Sonic Jam is the Sonic World, which is a 3D museum with history on Sonic, Music, artwork, character profiles and more. The museum is in Mario 64 type 3D with Sonic at control to run around the museum, you can even catch a ride by Tails as he flies by.
There's also World Missions, a small game with a few missions, after you finish each one, which go from collecting all rings or finding code boxes, then you'll unlock new camera angle and a giant ring to view the Credits. The biggest part of the Museum is the 5 buildings to visit - these buildings are as follows.
- Art Gallery: Collection of Sonic artwork.
- Character House: Has profiles and artwork of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Robotnik and friends.
- Hall of Fame: A timeline of important events in Sonic history from April 1990 to February 14, 1997.
- Movie Theater: Collection of Cinemas.
- Music Shop: Music from Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic Jam.
Tips & Cheats
Secret Time Attack: At the title screen hold A and START while selecting Sonic World. Don't let go until you see Sonic appear. Go to the Challenges spot and you'll have a secret special challenge - collect 100 rings in 1 minute. Not a particularly tall order, is it?
Bonus Codes: Locate the 3D versions of the classic Sonic power-up boxes in the Sonic World level. Approach the boxes and press A, B, or C to view codes from other games in the Sonic series.
