Dr Eggman captures the President of Planet Freedom's Land of the Sky and his daughter Sara (these two characters are totally new only shown in the anime), in order to make Sonic and Tails go to his home world, Robotropolis. Sonic and Tails get into trouble as Knuckles saves them from the huge Robo Robotnik, which has supposedly taken over the 'Land of Darkness' and overthrown Eggman. It is the closest Sonic Animation towards the actual video game series made, despite the vast differences - the fact that Yuji Naka and Sonic Team had a hand to lend helped matters too. Before the American/British release, the Japanese version was separated into two videos, called "Journey to Eggmanland" and "Sonic Vs Metal Sonic".
